The
establishes a new level of control for plant operators that depend upon
Streaming Current to maintain water quality. Unlike other systems, the instrument
can be calibrated to a known Ion Charge unit (ICu) value, using a cationic polymer
to determine the
solution. Once calibrated, the operator can use the
control set-point for the plant. This set-point is established through optimization
and it reects the actual ICu of the sample stream.
Establishing an actual ICu value for the control set-point ensures the operator can always return to the same conditions in
the event of a plant upset, equipment failure, or shut down. Routine calibration ensures that the integrity of the output can
be maintained by compensating for standard wear-and-tear on the probe and electronics.
The graphical display of the
monitor provides the operator a fast and easy way to keep up with what is going on
inside the plant. Historical trending of readings over the previous 8 or 24-hour period is continuously displayed as a graph
on the screen.
The sensor design incorporated into the
was developed to operate under the most turbid conditions. The HF
monitor, coupled with leading-edge sensor technology provides an easy-to-use tool for precise control over the
chemical dosing system.

Safety Alerts
Engineered thermoplastics are safe inert materials that do not pose any significant safety or environmental hazards during
handling or installation. However, improper installation or use can result in personal injury and/or property damage. It is
important to be aware of and recognize safety alert messages as they appear in this manual.
The types of safety alert messages are described below.
This safety alert symbol indicates important safety messages in this manual.
When you see this symbol be alert to the possibility of personal injury and
carefully read and fully understand the message that follows.
WARNING
CAUTION
Note:
The use of the word NOTE signifies special instructions which are important but are not related to hazards.
For the materials described in this manual, the following warning applies.
WARNING
NEVER use compressed air or gas in PVC/CPVC/PP/PVDF
pipe fittings.
NEVER test PVC/CPVC/PP/PVDF pipe and fittings
with compressed air or gas, or air-over-water boosters.
ONLY use PVC/CPVC/PP/PVDF pipe for water and
approved chemicals.
Use of compressed air or gas in PVC/CPVC/PP/PVDF pipe
and fittings can result in explosive failures and cause severe
injury or death.

GENERAL INFORMATION
OVERVIEW
This manual provides the most up-to-date dimensional information about vinyl process piping fittings
produced by IPEX.
Only IPEX offers Xirtec, a complete system of pipe, valves, and fittings engineered and manufactured
to IPEXs strict quality, performance and dimensional standards.
Xirtec (PVC) and Corzan (CPVC) high performance systems feature outstanding resistance to photo
degradation, creep stress and immunity to oxidation, and are exceptionally suited for use with a wide

MATERIAL DESCRIPTION
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
Xirtec 140 PVC used in the manufacture of Schedule 40 and 80 fittings is of Type I, Grade 1 compound
(cell classification 12454) as stated in ASTM D1784. The maximum service temperature for PVC is
140F (60C) under pressure, with occasional exposure to boiling water (212F, 100C). With a
hydrostatic design basis of 4000 PSI at 73F (23C) and a design stress of 2000 PSI at 73F (23C)
PVC has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of any major thermoplastic material used for piping.

Note: The basic dimensions of the American National Standard Taper Pipe Thread are given in inches to
four or five decimal places. While this implies a great degree of precesion than ordinarily attained, these
dimensions are the basis of gage dimensions and are so expressed for the purpose of eliminating errors
in computation.

Rigid Xirtec140 PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) used in the
manufacture of Schedule 80 fittings is of Type I, Grade 1
compound (cell classification 12454) as stated in ASTM
D1784. Raw material used in molding shall contain the
specified amounts of color pigment, stabilizers, and other
additives approved by NSF International.

Physical dimensions and tolerances of Xirtec140 PVC
Schedule 80 IPS fittings as manufactured by IPEX meet the
requirements of ASTM Standard Specification D2467 for
socket-type fittings and ASTM D2464 for threaded fittings.
Threaded fittings have Taper Pipe Threads in accordance
with ANSI/ASME B1.20.1. Flanged fittings have nominal
dimensions in accordance with ANSI/ASME B16.5.
Marking
Xirtec140 PVC Schedule 80 fittings are marked as
prescribed in ASTM D2467 and D2464 to indicate the
manufacturers name and trademark, material designation,
the NSF mark, size of fitting, and ASTM designation
D2467 (socket) or D2464 (threaded).
Sample Specification
All Schedule 80 socket fittings shall conform to ASTM
D2467. All Schedule 80 threaded fittings shall conform
to ASTM D2464. All 150 Class flanges shall conform to
