Emerging trends in recruitment culture discussed in IIM HR

The second HR Confluence on Strategic Recruiting and Employee Branding kicked off at IIM
RaipuronFriday.Theconfluencefeaturedfewplayersofcorporateworldwhichexpressedtheir
valuableviewsoverthetopic.
The two day confluence would conclude on Saturday. SK Mishra Former Chief Secretary,
Government of Chhattisgarh, who was the guest of honour elucidated the importance of HR in
harmonizingthegoalsandaspirationsofemployerandemployee.
He gave his insights on Knowledge Based Capital and urged the students not to get allured by
moneyasitwouldonlyleadtoshorttermgratificationandsustainablegrowthismoreimportant
inthelongrun.
The first panel discussion was centered on Transformation in Recruiting Culture. It was
moderatedbyProf.AjitPrasad,RajaRadhakrishnan,SeniorVicePresidentandHead,HR,ABB
Limited,focusedonleveragingtechnologyintherecruitmentprocesstomakeitcostefficient.He
highlighted how his organization successfully used Video Conferencing to conduct interviews to
save time. He also pointed out the benefits of Video Resumes that reflect the technical and
interpersonalskillsofpotentialemployees.
Surojit Chattoraj, Director, ABC Consultants started his presentation with the perceptions
different people have of recruiters. He described how the recruitment culture has transformed
over the years. He also explained the emerging trends in HR such as temporary staffing,
proliferation of small recruitment agencies, recruitment process outsourcing and recruitment
processinsourcing.
Ekta Sood, Vice President, Staffing Leader, BA Continuum (Bank of America) India gave a
detailed overview of the recruitment processes adopted by BA Continuum. She gave a fresh
perspectivetothesessionwiththeconceptofHumanResourceAnalyticsandSolutions.
Rakesh Seth, Senior Vice President, Group HR, Fedders Lloyd Group spoke about the role of
social media and job portals in hiring nowadays. He urged the students to strike a balance
betweentheirindividualaspirationsandorganizationalrequirements.
Heintroducedtheconceptof6Bs(Buy,Borrow,Bound,Build,BounceandBind)inrecruiting.
Prof.AjitPrasad,moderatorofthediscussiongavehisinsightsabouttheroleofthewomeninthe
workcultureduringrecenttimes.

The topic of the second panel discussion was HR in Employee Branding Public v/s Private
Sector. Ashis Sen, Head, HRCapability Building, HPCL expressed his views on the personal,
professionalandculturalintegrationincontextofemployeebranding.
Hesaidintimacyandinteractionoftheemployeewiththeemployerareveryimportanttoretain
talent.Hecontrastedtheconceptsofemployerbrandingandemployeebranding.
The second panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Shahida Khan, Assistant Professor, IIM
Raipur .She summarized the discussion and moderated the Questions and Answers session
betweenthestudentsandtheguests.
TheseconddayofHRConfluencewillbeheldonAugust31,2013.
The panel discussion will focus on other finer aspects such as Employer Value Proposition
StrategyandEmergingGlobalTalentPools.
