ST. PETER THE APOSTLE

MEET YOUR PRIEST

Fr. Gemnoli Bandivas was born in the quaint little town of
Sindangan in the province of Zamboanga del Norte,
Philippines, on April 8, 1965 to Orlando Bandivas and
Angelina Ogahayon. Fr. Gemnoli Bandivas, or Fr.
Gem as he is fondly called, is the second and only boy in
the family of three children.
At the age of 19, young Gem finished his Bachelors
Degree in Education and entered the Cor Jesu Seminary
in Dipolog City on the same year for his BA Philosophy
degree. Two years later, he continued his pursuit of
academic excellence at the Royal and Pontifical
University of Santo Tomas, in Manila, Philippines. In
addition to his degree in Theology from this prestigious
university, Fr. Gem also got a degree in Canon Law,
Business Administration (MBA), and a Doctorate Degree
in Educational Management.
At the age of 26, on October 28, 1991, Gemnoli
Bandivas was ordained a priest of God at St. Joseph The
Worker Parish, in his hometown in Sindangan. Barely
one month after ordination, the new priest was sent back
to Manila to work at the Metropolitan Tribunal under the
auspices of the late Jaime Cardinal Sin. His stint at the
office of the Cardinal opened for him the door to endless
possibilities. While in Manila, Fr. Gem was a visiting
professor at Cor Jesu Seminary in Dipolog City and St.
Marys Theologate in Ozamiz City; he also served as the
founder and Judicial Vicar of the Interdiocesan Tribunal
of the Ecclesiastical Province of DOPIM; he was
Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of
Dipolog; and served in the national arena when he was
elected as National Vice-President of the prestigious
Canon Law Society of the Philippines. All these tasks and
challenges he zealously carried out during the first ten
years of priestly ministry in the Philippines.
In 2001, Fr. Gem came to the United States and got a job
in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as parochial vicar until
one day he received an unexpected call from the bishop
of San Bernardino. The good bishop asked the young
priest if would be willing to relocate to San Bernardino
and work for him in the Marriage Tribunal. His big heart
and his desire to be of help to anyone in need made Fr.
Gem moved to San Bernardino.
Things took a sudden turn in 2007 when Fr. Gems older
sister who was battling with breast cancer finally died. His
desire to help his grieving family about their loss ended
him working as chaplain at St. Rose Dominican Hospital,
in Las Vegas. Four years later, Fr. Gem joined the
Diocese of Las Vegas and took the assignment as
Administrator at St. Patricks Parish in Tonopah for three
years. In 2014, Fr. Gem was made associate pastor at
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish for a year. His stint at
SEAS might be short-lived but it was never lacking of
excitement and fun memories. He continues his
philosophy to bloom wherever he is planted when he
accepts the task as Administrator at St. Peters Church.

PASTORAL CARE PROFESSIONAL

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM LOYOLA
MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY LOS ANGELES
Extension Program & Diocese of Las
Vegas, Faith Formation Department.
Pastoral Care is a means of providing comfort to those suffering as a
result of life's challenges, including long-term or life-limiting illness,
death of a loved one, separation or divorce, or aging.
The Program is open to any and all interested in serving others,
especially those who are giving time freely as well as for those who
work on professional parish pastoral teams or in other ministerial
settings.
Those who have already been active in pastoral ministry for some time
will find that this program offers a refreshing perspective and source
of continuing growth.
This course begins in Las Vegas, August 15, 2015 at St Peter the
Apostle Parish, Henderson, Nevada. Registration will open in the
summer.

Remember. . .Now that the warm weather season is upon us, we would
like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the important need to
dress properly when coming to church. What might be fine to wear around
your house or to go to the store in, may not be appropriate to wear to Gods
house. Dresses and tops that have low cut fronts, that are backless,
sleeveless or have spaghetti straps, shorts (Bermuda or other type of short
pant) along with short skirts and dresses all fall into the category of
inappropriate clothing. How a person chooses to dress can truly say a lot
about that person. Let the clothes we choose to wear, especially to church,
say to everyone that we love, honor and reverence the God we are coming to
worship.

Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church

The Compendium is available in English and Spanish in the
Gift Shop.
103. What does the Gospel teach about the
mysteries of the birth and infancy of Jesus?
525-530, 563-564: At Christmas the glory of heaven is shown forth
in the weakness of a baby; the circumcision of Jesus is a sign of his
belonging to the Hebrew people and is a prefiguration of our
Baptism; the Epiphany is the manifestation of the Messiah King of
Israel to all the nations; at the presentation in the temple, Simeon
and Anna symbolise all the anticipation of Israel awaiting its
encounter with its Savior; the flight into Egypt and the massacre of
the innocents proclaim that the entire life of Christ will be under the
sign of persecution; the departure from Egypt recalls the exodus
and presents Jesus as the new Moses and the true and definitive
liberator.
104. What does the hidden life of Jesus in Nazareth
teach us?

CANONICAL FORUM
To work for the proper implementation of canon law is to play an extraordinarily
constructive role in continuing the redemptive mission of Christ. Pope John Paul II

This section is reserved for all your questions

and/or inquiries about matters that pertain the laws
of the Catholic Church.
Father Gem will try to answer them
in our next bulletin issues.

533-534, 564: In the course of his hidden life in Nazareth Jesus

stayed in the silence of an ordinary existence. This allows us to
enter into fellowship with him in the holiness to be found in a daily
life marked by prayer, simplicity, work and family love. His
obedience to Mary and to Joseph, his foster father, is an image of
his filial obedience to the Father. Mary and Joseph accepted with
faith the mystery of Jesus even though they did not always
understand it.

pertenencia al pueblo hebreo y prefiguracin de nuestro Bautismo;
oracin, sencillez, trabajo y amor familiar. La sumisin a Mara y a
Jos, su padre legal, es imagen de la obediencia filial de Jess al
Padre. Mara y Jos, con su fe, acogen el misterio de Jess, a
unque no siempre lo comprendan.
