Work Experience
Manager Validation at ANZ, Bangalore (July 2014 Present)
Currently responsible for delivering the scheduled validation of the existing Basel models for the
New Zealand portfolios. The work includes guiding junior resources through the data preparation
and sense check for data accuracy, analysis of the models, assigning the ratings, and creation of
the validation reports which then need to be finalized internally with the head of the department
and finally with the corresponding business units. As the person responsible, I am expected to
ensure the entire validation process of data preparation to finalization of the reports and the
ratings is done accurately and within the timeline. Apart from this, I am also expected to manage
other projects at an ad hoc basis.
Major Projects:
Annual Validation of New Zealand Mortgage Rating Models
Delivered the validation reports for the New Zealand Mortgage PD, EAD, and LGD models with one
analyst working with me. For these models, monitoring reports are available which are created by a
separate team and therefore no data preparation was required for this project. Guided the junior
resource through how to use the monitoring reports and the corresponding data to do the
validation analysis, analyzing the stability, discrimination (For PD), and calibration of the models
using SAS and Excel and assigning appropriate ratings for each of the components, analyzing the
operational aspects of the models, and creation of the validation reports in Power Point. Followed
up to finalize the reports and ratings internally and with the business unit.
Annual Validation of New Zealand Personal Loan Rating Models
Completed the validation of the New Zealand Personal Loan PD, EAD, and LGD models with one
analyst working with me. Due to unavailability of any suitable monitoring report, this project
involved data extraction from SQL and Unix databases, combining data extracted from different
sources to prepare the account level validation data, and calculation of the realized default rate,
realized exposure at default, and realized loss given default from the account level raw data.
Guided the junior resource through the data preparation, data sanity checks, analyzing the
stability, discrimination (For PD), and calibration of the models using SAS and Excel, assigning the
ratings, analyzing the operational aspects of the models, and creation of the validation reports in
Power Point. Followed up to finalize the reports and ratings internally and with the business unit.
Other Experiences:
Mentored junior resources and helped them gain business knowledge and technical skills.
Was instrumental in improving the internal processes and methodology for validating
models.
Major Projects:
PD Model Development for New Zealand Mortgage
Was a key resource in a six people project team that developed a PD model for ANZs New Zealand
Mortgage portfolio using a new methodology that was used for the first time in a project. Project
work included data extraction and preparation flagging exclusions and account performance, sanity
checks, characteristics generation, analysis of macro-economic data, PD model building using the
new methodology, analyzing the robustness of the model, calculating the impact of the model on
CP and RWA, and documentation. Statistical tools used were linear regression and logistic
regression
Application Scorecard Development for Australia Credit Cards
Was a key resource in a four people project team that developed an application scorecard for a
certain product under ANZs Australia Credit Cards portfolio. Project work involved data extraction
and preparation flagging exclusions and account performance, sanity checks, segmentation
analysis, characteristics generation, binning of the characteristics, KGB Modeling, AR Modeling,
Reject Inference, KIGB Modeling, analyzing out of time and down the road data, and
documentation. Logistic regression was used for building the models.
Other Experiences:
As part of the induction training program in the modeling team, have provided training to
new joiners hired through campus recruitment on basics of scorecard and rating models,
calculation of CP & RWA, and hands on training on scorecard development. Have also
provided technical training to the modeling team in Chengdu during the formation of the
modeling team in China.
