ASSIGNMENT
A. Assignment Objectives
1. To learn the functions of business and management by application - planning,
organizing, leading and controlling for a project-based work.
2. To comprehend how business, government and the society at large affect the way
commerce is conducted.
3. To integrate the concepts, skills and practical approaches in the Introduction of
Business and apply the knowledge in a real case setting.
B. Learning Outcomes
At the end of this assignment, the students should be able to learn the following:
1. Understand the fundamental concepts of business.
2. Gain an awareness of the environmental factors that influence business and marketing
activities.
3. Gain knowledge of the various forms of business organizations, their aims and
characteristics.
4. Apply the main aspects of business functions and processes in management, human
resource, production, marketing, accounting and finance.
5. Understand the importance and methods of effective communication.
6. Develop time management and leadership qualities.
7. Develop effective collaboration and team work communication.
8. Build self-confidence and problem solving skills.
9. Cultivate research & analytical skills knowledge, evaluation of possible solutions.
10. Develop creative thinking skills and thinking out of the box.
11. Build up students planning, organizing, leading and controlling skills.

C. Assignment Question
In this group project students will need to form a group to work on a case study. This
project allows students to think and work on real case situation which they might have
encountered in the past or might be experiencing during their employment in the future.
Students are required to write a case study for a selected company of one of the following
industries:
1. Automobiles
2. Banking and / or insurance
3. Food and beverage
4. Tourism
5. Telecommunication
Besides giving a brief description of the company and the organization structure, students
are required to provide a description of the companys background and the nature of
business. Students are required to explain the vision/mission of the company and how
the company formulates the business, operation and marketing strategy. Discuss the
positioning strategies of this company in relation to its segment and target market.
D. Requirements and Expectations:

- Human Resource recruitment strategy (online recruitment, advertisement and etc)
- Research and development (R&D) if any
5. Marketing mix
- Describe the current marketing mix of this company
- The companys segmentation
- Target market
- Positioning of the company

E. Rules & Guidelines
1. Your assignment must contain a title page which states: Introduction to Business
Assignment A case study of (name of company)
2. You may work as a team between 2 to 5 members.
3. The name and ID of the group members must be clearly printed on the cover page of
the assignment.
4. You must include a title page and draw a table of content with page number.
5. You shall use font type Times New Roman, font size 12.
6. All paragraphs shall have double line spacing.
7. Word Count: approximately 2400 words. Total word count must be indicated in the
assignment.
8. You may insert photos (with colors /without color), references and supporting
information.
9. Perform citation by conforming to the Harvard Referencing System.
10. Your hard copies of assignment shall be properly bound.
11. The soft copies of your assignment and presentation slides shall be burned into a CD
which shall indicate your group name and submitted together with your hard copy of
your assignment.
12. You must submit your assignment to Turn It In by the due date. Originality index: not
more than 20%.
13. You must indicate page number at the right hand bottom.
14. Deadline of submission: by 25/3/2015 during lecture time.
15. The group presentation date and time will be announced later in class.
16. Late submission is not allowed. NO MARKS will be awarded.
17. Peer Assessment Form must be prepared for the teams before the presentation.

G. Plagiarism
1. Plagiarism is the presentation of the work, idea or creation of another person as though
it is your own. It is a form of cheating and is considered as a very serious
academic offence.
2. Plagiarized material can be drawn from, and presented in, written, graphic and visual
form, including electronic data, and oral presentations. Plagiarism occurs when
the origin of the material used is not appropriately cited. Examples of
plagiarism include:

Copying sentences or paragraphs word-for-word from one or more sources,


whether published or unpublished, which could include but is not limited to
books, journals, reports, theses, websites, conference papers, course notes, etc.
without proper citation;

Closely paraphrasing sentences, paragraphs, ideas or themes without proper


citation;

Piecing together text from one or more sources and adding only linking sentences;

Copying or submitting whole or parts of computer files without acknowledging


their source;

Copying designs or works of art and submitting them as your original work;

Copying a whole or any part of another student's work; and

Submitting work as your own that someone else has done for you.

Enabling Plagiarism: the act of assisting or allowing another person to plagiarize


or to copy your own work.
