Task1 - Develop an OHS policy for The Melbourne Lounge. When creating the

policy ensure that it complies with the OHS policies, regulations and codes of
practice. It should also include the responsibilities of the management, staff and
visitors (which includes the customers) as given in the template. You are required
to use the OHS Policy template discussed in the learning guide to compose your
answer. The template is titled OHS Policy Template and is located on the LMS
system.

Occupational Health and Safety Policy


Occupational Health and Safety Statement
Purpose
To define Melbourne Lounge's policy on Occupational Health and Safety
(OH&S).

Policy
OH&S is about ensuring your health, safety and welfare is paramount in all
of Melbourne Lounge activities. Every reasonably practical effort will be
made to achieve this objective. We are committed to place the safety and
health of people ahead of property and equipment. It is a policy of
Melbourne Lounge to provide a work environment as free as possible from
recognised hazards in a work environment. Employees are expected to
comply with all safety regulations and whether established by Melbourne
Lounge , the Client, or Australian law. All Managers at the each site is
responsible, under the relevant legislation, for implementing this
commitment. Each staff member is also required to take all practicable
steps to ensure their safety while at work and that no action or inaction of
the staff member while at work causes harm to any other person.
Procedures
An employee who is injured on the job or their injuries are directly related
to the performance of job duties should report injuries to management
immediately, regardless of how an injury might appear. They must

complete a Accident / Incident Report and this will need to be updated on


the Workplace Accident Register for any on-site accident or near accident.
Management Responsibilities
All Managers at each site is responsible, under the relevant legislation, for
implementing this commitment
Managers are responsible for:
- Ensuring that employees are familiar with the hazards they are exposed
to, and the steps needed to isolate, eliminate or minimise them;
-Monitoring trends in reported hazards and injuries and providing remedial
measures where these are needed;
-Providing employees with the results of the monitoring of workplace
conditions on request;
- Providing appropriate training for all people in Melbourne Lounge - worksite in the identification, control and management of hazards;
- Encouraging employees to take responsibility for their own safety and
that of others around them;
-Establishing standard procedures to deal with known hazards;
- Initiating preventative policies and procedures;
- Reviewing employees skills and knowledge regularly and providing
remedial training.
Employee Responsibilities
Each staff member is also required to take all practicable steps to ensure
their safety while at work and that no action or inaction of the staff
member while at work causes harm to any other person.
Visitor Responsibilities
Visitors are also required to take all practicable steps to ensure their
safety while at Melbourne Lounge and that no action or inaction of the
visitor while at work causes harm to any other person.

Task2 Briefly explain the resources required to implement an OHS system at the
Melbourne Lounge.
1. Human resources - Implementation of an OHS system requires three key
personnel
-OHS Management Representative

-OHS Employee Representative


-OHS Policy and OHSMS Implementation Officer
2- Financial Resources For any system or procedures to be implemented within an

organisation some sort of financial resources should be allocated for it. The financial
resources required for the OHSMS are as follows:
-Training
-Expert advice
-Safety equipment
-Workers compensation
3- Physical Resources
-Information storage methods
Information about OHS practices should be stored, either by hard copy or soft copy,
electronically or on paper.
-Plant and equipment
Equipment must be supplied to all employees
-Vehicles
Vehicles should be safe to drive
4 Time
-Time is another resource that should be set aside to implement, review, improve
and also to actually carry out and deal with OHS related issues.

Task3 Bill should identify the issue should immediately fill out an O.H.S Incident or
Issue form or inform the OHS Employee Representative. The OHS Employee
Representative should identify the issue then report it to an immediate
supervisor/manager. The OHS issue will be discussed and analysed and an OHS
expert can be consulted if required. If they can reach an agreement then the issue
will be corrected quickly, a resolution can then be implemented. If the resolution
takes a considerable amount of time to be implemented then a plan and deadline will
be created for the agreed resolution. Otherwise the resolution will be implemented
immediately
If the OHS Representative and the manager cannot come to an agreement on the
matter then the issue should be presented to the higher level management to resolve
the issue.
If its still not resolved then it should be reported to a Work-safe inspector if its still not
resolved the issue is referred to Work-safe Australia.

Task4 A meeting should be used to inform all staff members about the outcome of
the issue as meetings are the most thorough way to inform all staff members.
