Task1 - As the Restaurant Manager at The Melbourne Lounge you are required to identify potential
hazards that may occur at the restaurant in order to create plans for the company. Briefly explain the
three methods that are most appropriate to be used in this scenario to identify hazards. Provide reasons
for choosing these methods among other available methods.
Answer Brian-storming, as it is suitable for new establishments. Surveys, as it is cost effective, less
time consuming and accurate. Job Safety Analysis, as it is suitable for any industry that may have
different types of tasks in the business, does not require much time and is easy to understand.

Task2 - Identify potential hazards that could occur at the Melbourne Lounge. Your answer should
include at least 5 hazards. For each identified hazard mention the hazard category it belongs to.
Answer 1.Sharp edges-Physical hazard. 2.Bacteria and viruses-Biological Hazard 3.Blocked
walkways-Physical hazard. 4.Chemical storage-Chemical hazard. 5.Fatigue-Psychological hazard

Task3 - Conduct a risk assessment using the Risk Assessment Matrix defined by AS / NZ 4360:2004
for the hazards that you identified in Task 2 above. For each hazard mention the criteria given below as
explained by the Risk Assessment Matrix. Likelihood Consequence Risk Level Use the Risk
Assessment Template on the LMS system to complete your answer. You are free to make any valid
assumptions. State any assumptions that you make.

measure specifically mention the category of the Hierarchy of Control that it relates to.

Substitution the chemical can be replaced with a non dangerous type.
Isolation the chemical can be stored in an isolated area IE. Storeroom.
Engineering controls - Where possible engineering controls should be used to minimize or eliminate
the manual handling of the chemicals.
Administration controls - Warning signs should be placed to warn employees and other people of the
hazards of the chemicals. The employees exposed to the chemicals should be provided appropriate
training and information. Job rotation should be used to minimize the time each employee is exposed to
the chemical and proper maintenance methods must be used in this process and area.
Personal protective equipment - The employees will have to be provided with appropriate safety gear
to minimize their exposure to the chemicals
