Note: This process map describes the different


paths one can take to become a Professional
Engineer in British Columbia. The path you will
have to take depends on the type of training/
education and work related experience you
currently have in this occupation. Please ensure
that all the documents you submit are in English.
The approximate time it will take to go through this
process ranges from 1 year and 6 months, to 2
years and 6 months. This timeframe will vary
depending on how fast you complete the
application form(s), collect and send the
documents, take required examinations, and take
any required courses. The cost of this qualification
process ranges from $1,087 to $1,787.

work experience in B.C., you will be able to apply for membership
with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of

Apply for membership with APEGBC. You will need to complete the

media/APEGBC/Registration/APEGBC-Application-forRegistration.pdf. Once you submit your application form, APEGBC
will review within 4 to 6 weeks. You will need to submit the
following with your application:

Apply to have your qualifications assessed by APEGBC. You will


need to complete the membership application form found online,

APEGBC-Application-for-Registration.pdf. Depending you your
education and experience, you may need to complete an Interview
and/or Academic Examinations. APEGBC will let you know what the
required next steps are in a letter 2 to 4 months after receiving
your application. You will need to submit the following with your
application:
Proof of your Canadian Citizenship, or your Permanent
Residence status

Proof of your Canadian Citizenship, or your Permanent Residence


status
Reference forms from 2 Canadian or American Professional

directly from your educational institution to APEGBC.
An experience report, that outlines your work history. You will
complete this using APEGBCs online Experience Reporting

Application fee of $475

Apply to write the Professional Practice Examination. You can


complete this exam while APEGBC reviews your membership
application. The Professional Practice Examination is offered four
times a year in Victoria and Vancouver B.C. You can contact
APEGBC to discuss other possible exam locations. The Professional
Practice Examination can be found on the APEGBC website, https://

Engineers will conduct the interview.
