As told by Alvan Kaunfer

Set the story basket beside you and still yourself.

Did you ever have somethingvery kind happen to

you? And it was unexpected?

Sometimes when kindness and love

happenother great things happen.

A long time ago in the land of Israelthere were

there was no food in the land of Israel.

And so..Naomi and her husband traveled across the

barley harvest.

Lay out bundles of grain on field spaces.
Barley was a very important crop in the land of

Israel, because when you ground the barley you

could bake bread, and live.

Naomi and Ruth were very poor. They didnt have

money. They didnt have barley to bake bread.

So Naomi said to Ruth, Go to one of the fields, and

follow the workmen. And when they gather the

And so Ruth went to one of the fields

Now the owner of this field was a man named Boaz.

And they said to him, That is Ruth, who came with

her mother-in-law Naomi, from the land of Moab.

some of it back to her home.
Lay 2 bundles of grain beside them.

And Namoi asked her, Ruth, where were you

today?

And Ruth said, I was in the field of Boazand he

was very kind.

And Naomi was surprised, Ruth, you know, Boaz

belonged to the family of my husband.

Put your hand over Naomi and Ruth in blessing

Move Ruth back to the field, and move Ruth and
workmen along as before, and back to Naomi with
another bundle of grain.

Lay dark blue pieces perpendicular to the fields on
the side closest to the children. Lay Boaz down on
one of them. Move Ruth to the piece and lay him at
a 90 degree angle at his feet.

Stand both pieces up.

Move Boaz and Ruth to a space between and below
where Naomi is. Make a motion of blessing over
them. Move Naomi near to them.

God was very kind to us, and God will be kind to

you.

Continue to collect barley from the field of Boaz.

So every day Ruth would go out to the field, and
follow the workmen, and collect the barley, and
bring it home.

And one day, Naomi said to Ruth, Ruth, at night, go
to the place where Boaz sleeps.and lie down next
to his feet, and he will know what to do.

So that night, Ruth washed and dressed, and went
to the special place where Boaz slept, and she lie
down next to his feet.

And Boaz woke up, and he was startled and
surprised that Ruth was there. And he was very
happy to see her. And he said to Ruth, Because you
have been so kind, I would like to be kind to you.

And so, Boaz and Ruth got marriedand God was
kind to them, and they had a baby, and they loved
the baby. And Naomi loved the baby. And when that
baby grew up, he became the grandfather of the
great king David, king of Israel.

Remember that closed questions or right/wrong questions have no place in Reflective Storytelling. Everyones thoughts and
contributions are equally valued and valid, and must be treated as such.

I wonder, what part of the story did you like the best?

I wonder which part of the story is the most important?

I wonder how Naomi felt leaving her country in Israel to go to the land of Moab so they could have food?

I wonder how Ruth felt leaving her family and her country to go with Naomi?

I wonder why Ruth loved Naomi so much?

I wonder what it is like to live in a new place?

I wonder if you have showed kindness to someone in your family?

I wonder if you have showed kindness to a stranger or someone who is from a different country?

I wonder if you have experienced Gods kindness to you?
