I would have to start off by saying that we have changed our ways of warfare dramatically

in the last 50 years, if we just compare World War I and World II to the modern wars we are
fighting nowadays in the middle east, a war which I personally was a part of while in service.
Nowadays we have sophisticated weapons that can not only be launched from a ship somewhere
out at sea, but we also have long range weapons that can be launched from a completely
different continent. Which perfectly describes the terminology of a faceless war, because it allows
us to ultimately fight without having to even put any troops on land, we have all heard of the
drones that are being controlled all the way back from the continental United States and used to
strike targets overseas, this makes it possible to fight a war without ever having to send ground
troops, and without these advances throughout the years we would not be able to defend
ourselves against modern terrorism a war which we are still fighting today against ISIS/ISIL.

ANNOTATIONS

Ulrich, A. (2005, May 6). The Nazi Death Machine: Hitler's Drugged Soldiers - SPIEGEL
ONLINE. Retrieved July 26, 2015.
In this article, it briefly describes the different ways Hitler had used his drugs to make the
performance of the average soldier superior to the enemy. The effects of amphetamines are
similar to those of the adrenaline produced by the body, triggering a heightened state of alert. In
most people, the substance increases self-confidence, concentration and the willingness to take
risks, while at the same time reducing sensitivity to pain, hunger and thirst, as well as reducing
the need for sleep By using what we would consider to today a type of methanptmine Hitler had
an advantage when it came battles during the war. Ulrich describes this by ultimately using the
following quote from one of the famous Nazi Leaders. "Their spirits suddenly improved"

Frisbee, W. (Ed.). (n.d.). Evolution of Warfare. Retrieved July 26, 2015.

I personally think Frisbee does a good job in breaking down the types of wars and how they
were fought, for example he starts the article off great with the following Warfare started with
fists, sticks and stones, yelling distance. People usually knew their enemy, not always by
name but they could see the fear in his as he bled to death at their feet. Combat was more
personal and direct. Which if you think of a war today it is not like this anymore, he does a
great job describing the ups and downs of weaponry, we all know that muskets played a
huge role but yet they were inaccurate but improved with time. He brings major technologic
advances such as the radio, which we all know was used to call in airstrikes and mortar
locations. All of these improvements in warfare helped us win the wars we did, and without
them we probably would not be calling ourselves the United States of America. As we all
know in todays modern wars Guided munitions can be directed with pinpoint accuracy I
will mainly use this article to help refer back to advances that we dont really think of today
but still play a huge role in warfare, such as the radio.
