Dr. David Jeremiah said, With all the turmoil in todays world, it shouldnt surprise us that worry has reached
epidemic proportions.
In a current article (July 2015) entitled Healthy Life Healthy Planet written by Michael Tumberlin, he notes,
Everyday 87% of the population lives under this type of stress (worry). We worry about money, children, jobs, our spouse
and hundreds of other things on a daily basis. He goes on to say, 98% of all Degenerative Disease is caused by Stress!
Earl Nightingale, in a publication entitled The Fog of Worry (Only 8% of worries are worth it), noted: According to the Bureau of
Standards, A dense fog covering seven city blocks, to a depth of 100 feet, is composed of something less than one glass of water. So, if all
the fog covering seven city blocks, 100 feet deep, were collected and held in a single drinking glass, it would not even fill it.
This could be compared to our worries. If we could see into the future and we could see our problems in their true light and all the
things most people worry about were reduced to their true size, you could probably put them all into a drinking glass and they wouldnt
even fill the glass. 92% of what people worry about never happens, has already happened, is none of their business, or beyond their
control.
The Apostle Peter encourages us to give ALL of our worries to God and trust HIM: (1 Peter 5:7) Cast all your anxiety on him
because he cares for you. The Apostle Paul encourages us to Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with
Thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts
and minds through Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6,7).Jesus told HIS disciples not to worry. Life is more important than the necessities of life. HE told
them to note the birds, they dont even sow or reap, but God feeds them. Then HE called their attention to the lilies of the field. Even
Solomon in all his finest robes couldnt compare to their beauty. Life was to be lived one day at a time: But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about
itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matt 6:33,34).
There is nothing the world does that God cannot change, and there is nothing God does that the world can change. God is the
same today, as HE was yesterday, and will be the same tomorrow. Humble yourselves, therefore, under Gods mighty hand, that he may
lift you up in due time (1 Peter 5:6).

Counselors Corner

A friend and I have spent much time recently trying to get my computer to re-connect to the internet. We have plugged and
unplugged, traced cords, crawled and climbed, by-passed the router, turned every part of the system on and off in various
sequences. We have groaned in frustration at the trouble-shooting message which directs us to online help. THAT IS THE
PROBLEM! WE CANT GET ONLINE!
As I give up on the effort for the time-being, Im comparing this experience to some of the interactions that are described to me in
the counseling office. Im thinking of someone who has spent her whole life feeling that it was her job to make another family member
happy. No matter how or what she tried, she never succeeded. The reason? No one can be responsible for someone elses happiness. Consciously or not, we each make the choice as to whether we will be happy.
Im recalling, too, a couple who have graciously taken a disabled relative into their home. He makes one unwise and selfish decision after another, decisions which adversely affect the ones who are trying to help him. No amount of discussion or drawing lines in the
sand seems to make any impression on him. Some people cannot be reasoned with. We must decide on and state our boundaries and
then hold them in the face of whatever reaction occurs.
I could go on and on. Theres the grandmother whos done all she can to help a single parent who doesnt control her children. Theres the young boy who cant find the key to getting along with his older sister. And the wife who has expressed her needs over
and over to the apparently deaf ears of her husband.
I am an eternal optimist, ever believing in the possibility of change. I am also a realist. I know I cannot fix my computer. I will need
to call a technician for help. There are people and situations in life that we simply cannot fix. We cannot make them change to fit the ideal
picture in our heads. We must do all we can, without taking on a load that is unhealthy. Then we need to step back, pray and let God do
His work in accordance with their level of willingness and cooperation. He does not hold us responsible for another persons happiness or
for how they choose to live their lives.
