CALL FOR ABSTRACTS:


RESEARCH & CREATIVE SOLUTIONS
HORIZONS 2016 will be held April 5, 6 & 7 in Warwick, RI
Both oral and poster sessions will be held at HORIZONS; the Research Committee assigns accepted abstracts to oral or
poster presentation. Accepted abstracts will receive a coupon for complimentary registration for ONE day of the
symposium. (One coupon per abstract) All other expenses are the responsibility of the presenters.

DEADLINE: Abstracts must be received by 12/1/15

Abstracts must follow guidelines. Abstracts not adhering to the guidelines will not be reviewed.
Abstracts must be relevant to the care of the critically ill patient and/or critical care nursing and be noncommercial.
The first author must be a nurse
Only completed research and projects will be reviewed.
Once submitted, no revisions, corrections or changes may be made in the abstract.
All requests for withdrawal or change in presenter must be in writing; telephone requests will not be accepted.

ABSTRACT INSTRUCTIONS
Use a 12-point font typeface. Title, authors, and abstract must all fit on one page. Any charts or graphs must be clear and
fit on the abstract page. An acknowledgment of granting/funding agencies is permitted at the bottom of the page. Be sure
to blind funding sources listed in the abstract.

ABSTRACT DEVELOPMENT INFORMATION


Research abstracts should reflect original research results and include the following elements:
Purpose What was the intent or goal of the study?

Background & Significance - What was the problem? Why was it important? What knowledge are you building on?
Methods What was your design? What was your sample? What instruments did you use? How were data collected
and analyzed?
Results - What did you find?
Conclusions What do your findings mean?

A Creative Solution can be among a wide variety of strategies & practice innovations used by nurses to solve a difficult,
unique or interesting problem related to patient care, nursing practice, nursing management or nursing education. The
solution must have been implemented with outcomes evaluated.
Abstracts should include the following elements:
Purpose What was the intent or goal of the project? What problem was addressed by the creative solution?

Description What was the creative solution? How was it developed & implemented?
Evaluation & Outcomes What were the outcomes of the project? How was success measured?
