MAIN AREA OF RESEARCH:

Health Department NWFP – Accommodations in Public health facilities

RESEARCH TOPIC:

“A CRITICAL REVIEW ON THE UTILIZATION OF RESIDENTIAL

ACCOMMODATIONS IN PUBLIC SECTOR HEALTH FACILITIES IN SWABI”

RESEARCH QUESTION:
What is the rate of utilization of residential accommodations in public sector health
facilities in district Swabi?

INTRODUCTION / IMORTANCE AND JUSTIFICATION:

Government is spending millions of rupees on the construction of health facilities and
residential accommodations for staff and doctors in BHUs and RHCs as well as in CH.
Most of these accommodations are not used by the designated staff for one reason or the
other. This is not only a waste of the taxpayer’s money but also an imposed cutting from
the salaries of the designated employees who have no choice but to pay whether they
occupy or not the accommodation. Even repair cost of 5% of the basic pay is deducted
from the salaries of the designated staff. A serious thought has never being given to the
topic and despite the non-utilization of these accommodations new ones are being
constructed and the practice repeated again and again. The purpose of this study will be
to look from a neutral aspect, both sides of the picture and to suggest something to help
both the planners and health employees.
