This document provides installation and activation instructions for ChessBase and Fritz programs. It explains that you must install the program without starting it, run the CB-Patch program to patch it, then enter a serial number and activation code during startup. All activation information is encrypted and stored in specific config files, and you can deactivate a program by deleting these files. The CB-Patch utility automatically patches programs and should be run after any updates.

============================================= (for a full 'first-time' installation) 1. 2. 3. 4.
install the program (don't start it after the installation!)
copy the latest CB-Patch.exe into the installation folder run CB-Patch.exe (this patches the program and ChessBaseAdminTool) start the program: when the activation dialog comes up, enter any serial number for the 'Activation key' and the 4 shown letters 5. open the menu 'File > Activation > Activate Offline' and enter the same serial number in the top field, then the 4 shown letters and finally fill the bottom field with any numbers and click [OK]. List of official serial numbers: ================================ ChessBase 11: G8LZ3-QJDFA-V8FUJ-A5MUL-QSZXJ-CB11 ChessBase 12: AWTXX-SCPGX-LFVCU-F445D-M66XX-CB12 (Deep)Fritz12: QWJKK-TLA43-2UWEY-U99CR-S77ZL (Deep)Fritz 13: E8KDG-8CMV3-4WPJ5-32W5C-96C4I Technical infos about the Activation: ===================================== 1) the serial number entered in the program itself (point 4. above) is stored in the program's ini-file (*.cbini in a sub-folder of C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\ChessBase with the program's name). This *.cbini is not a textfile, i.e. it can't be edited with any texteditor. If you want to change the serial number stored in it you must delete this file. 2) all numbers entered in the activation dialog (point 5. above or in ChessBaseAdminTool) are stored in encrypted form in the following 3 files: a) C:\ProgramData\ChessBase\NNN-XX.cbinfo b) C:\ProgramData\ChessBase\NNN-XX.cbser NNN=program number 100 for ChessProgramXX (Fritz-GUI) 200 for CBaseXX (Chessbase-GUI) XX= version number 11, 12, 13 ... c) C:\ProgramData\ChessBase\ChssBaseCB.ini with the following content: [100] 12=.......... (encrypted code for F12) 13=.......... ( --- " --for F13) [200] 11=.......... ( --- " --for CB11) 12=.......... ( --- " --for CB12) 3) to deactivate any program (or to change the serial number) just do the following ('Deactivation' in the program itself does not work!): delete the 2 files NNN-XX.* and the code after 'XX=' in the proper section [100] or [200] for this program in the file ChssBaseCB.ini.
Then you can activate it again in the program or ChessBaseAdminTool!
4) you can also run ChessBaseAdminTool.exe directly (instead of using the program's Activation dialog) to check which ChessBase programs are installed and which of them are already activated. Infos about CB-Patch: ===================== 1) CB-Patch automatically detects any ChessBase program in the current folder and creates a patch-file 'Patch.pat' for the program itself and 'PatchAT.pat' for ChessBaseAdminTool (if it exists). 2) These 2 patch-files *.pat should not be deleted because without them CB-Patch can't undo the patches (i.e. restore the original programs) anymore (undoing the patch is simply done by running CB-Patch again). 3) Whenever you've updated any ChessBase program run CB-Patch again, it will detect the new versions and create new patch-files *.pat (a new activation is not necessary for an update if the previous version has already been activated!). 4) If for any new program updates CB-Patch doesn't work anymore (i.e. it shows any error messages) then you've to wai
