RE: Part-Time Editor position
Dear Ms. Rodgers,
Words. Lots of words. Unnecessary words, misspelled words, misused words. I love
them all equally, but that love is fleeting. They must be edited but edited only to
make the end product better.
And editing need not be stodgy, nitpicky business. Thoughtfulness and creativity
can and should be part of the process.
That's why I want to be part of the Rep Cap team.
If I joined the crew, here's what I would bring to the table on day one:

A seasoned writer and editor: I have been the "word guy" everywhere I've
worked. I've written innumerable articles, synopses, analyses, press releases,
action alerts, blog posts, social media posts whew! And in recent years,
I've assumed more editing tasks. Right now, I am the lone communications
staffer for a small (around 20 employees) Washington, D.C., trade
association, which means I am the primary editor of a monthly print
newsletter (usually eight pages) and the editor and author of a monthly enewsletter both of which are distributed to nearly 7,000 public affairs
professionals every month.
An insatiable curiosity: There is always something more to learn. When
confronted with a challenge, I seek solutions. For some time, finding out more
about social media was a pet project of mine and I spent a good deal of my
free time digging around and learning more about how I could use it more
effectively. As a result, I was able to bring a fresh and enjoyable perspective
to my work. Plus, I'm an inveterate Googler and need to know everything
yesterday. I want to know so I can apply that knowledge intelligently from day
to day.

I want to put my talents, interests and quirks to work for you. If you think that might
be a possibility, please contact me at your convenience.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mark C. Wills
