Start Lecture by His Holiness Radhanath Swami Maharaja.

In the Redwood forest of California, there are trees there said to be over five
thousand years old. Can you imagine that tree is standing there when Lord
Krishna was having his lila. That tree was standing there when Lord appeared
and traveled throughout the land spreading the Buddhist dharma. That same
tree was there when Lord Jesus Christ was preaching the gospel in the Middle
East. That tree was present when Sankaracarya came to refute the Buddhist
doctrine and established the doctrine of monism. That tree was present when
the Mohammad appeared in the Arabian countries and spread the Islamic
faith. That tree was standing there when the Red Indians had complete
jurisdiction of the entire continent of North America. That tree was standing
there when Christopher Columbus came and so called discovered the United
States. And then all the Europeans came to settle and claim to be their own.
That tree was standing there when each and every one of in this room took
birth and in our insignificant lives, we will go through our childhood. We will go
through our student years and then we will go through our adultness, we will
marry, we will have children. They will grow up. They will marry. We will work
hard, we will retire, we will grow old and that tree will watch us die and after
we dead and gone but that same tree will be standing there watching our
children our grand children, our great grand children, our great great grand
children. Our names will be completely forgotten. There will not be practically
a stress of remembering us in the history of this world after five or six
generations. And that tree will still be standing there watching at all. So what
is so great about that tree. Sukadeva Goswami says in Bhagavatam it is better
to have one moment of consciousness than five thousands, six thousands
years of life in ignorance. The purpose of life of the tree is quantity. The human
life never has much quantity. So you live a hundred years, may to a hundred
and two or hundred three, or hundred and six. May be you can even attain the
might status of living till a hundred and eight. The question is that 108 years
probably the last 30 years you are a total invalid living like a breathing
vegetable. Not really a complexion doing anything in this world except
basically living like a tree. Having your children, your grand children, you great
grand children come by water you every now and then stream your branches.
Human life is so what? What is the hundred years, ninety years, eighty years.
The average life expectancy is now only in 60s or 70s. Human life is meant for
quality. And what is quality? The dogs, the hogs, the Camels, the asses. vavi-varhora-kharai sastuta purua pau. It is described the man
who have the mentality of dogs, hogs, camels, and asses. They pray the
qualities of other man who have qualities of better dogs, hogs, camels, and
ashes. A dog is very expert a being like a beggar. Begging for scraps of food
from the master. People go to the college, they put in twenty years of
education, they get high high Phd. And then what they do? Like the dogs they
go begging for a job, begging for some scraps for some money. The dogs are

also very expert at making a lot of noise trying to defend with they have. What
does actually belong to them? They still want to be defend. Just like in
America, almost every family has a dog. Then if you really want to know about
the dogs, you ask any postman. They know all about dogs. Because when he
goes to each house to deliver for the mass of the letter, every house they
have to go to the same way deal. Most postman they have to wear special
pants, so that special plastic amour. So there when dogs bite them, they do
not bleed, why? Because the dog is saying gate out of my house. This is my
house. When the master comes, the does not bark. If anyone else comes, then
the dog barks, gate away from my house, gate away from my door. That place
is not belongs to the dog. But the dog is very proud this is mine you keep
away. Human civilization is basically the civilizations of dogs. Practically in any
country, you go through in aggression. What are you doing here? Why do you?
What do you want? What is your business? Where are you going to stay? This
is my land. This is your land. Where is your passport? Gods property. Because
of their mentality of dogs, they are thinking its mine and very protective that
no one else can come. This is my house, this is my wealth. This is my family.
This is my nation. And then when we are so much chaos they decide this is not
conducive to our sense gratification, all these chaos, all these imminent
danger of fighting and war. So let us form the united nations. Let us create
peace and honor. Our spiritual master Srila Prabhupada he was invited to the
united nations to give lecture. And when he came out he explained that the
united nation is just big building where the assembly above varieties of dogs
from the other parts of the world. Just come together to bark, one another. He
said, what peace can you have? If you take twelve, fifty, or hundred dogs and
put them in a same room. Can you expect peace amongst them? They are
simply growling one another. This is mine, that is yours. You stay of my land.
Out stay of your land. I want what you have. You want what I have? So much
negotiations. And the dog, that barks the loudest and has the sharpest teeth,
is considered as the greatest dog. Right now the most respected nations in the
world are nations like America and Soviet Union, why? Because they have the
sharpest teeth. They have the biggest bombs. Its not that they have such a
divine peaceful culture. Soviet Union is on the brinks of inner destruction due
to inner unrest among people, lack of trust in authorities. In the 1960s the
united states there was civil war taking place. Peoples from other parts of the
world have no idea, the extent of the critical condition of that country. That the
young people no longer wanted to follow the principles of the government.
They knew that the people who are running the government were cheaters.
They were sending them to battle fields of Vietnam just so that they can get
the money. There is no reason for the war, except money. Why should we give
our lives? Why should we see our friends die? Because these big people want
money in the name of protecting communism, there was no question of
protecting communism. So in this way there was civil war. The young
generation turned against the older generation. There ware riots in the street
almost everyday. On the college campuses the USA army, they were coming in
and gunning down with machine guns to the innocent students and wounding

them in hundreds and killing many. It was shocking. The USA army going into
the first world war, the second world war, in another land fighting against the
Japanese or the Germans as one thing. But coming on a college campuses and
shooting dead their innocent own youth, who do not even have a knife or a
stick to defend themselves with. This was the condition. And ultimately there
have been many books about this. Most people in this world are do not know
the USA government seen to just allow millions and millions of drugs to come
in to completely tranquillize the young generations, so that they would not be
the aggressive in their various pursuits against the establishment. You do not
believe it. But it is a fact. And in this way, look at these countries now. They
both have about economic collapses. The people of the country are miserable.
But they are the most respective countries in the world, why? Because they
have the biggest fames or sharpest teeth, why? Because this is the world of
dogs. A dog is not a respective dog. Because of his gently qualities or saintly
qualities. He respects out of fear that the dog has the biggest teeth or
sharpest teeth and who can bark loudest.
And hogs, what is the quality of a hog. He has no discrimination, what he eats
or does not eat. In fact hogs prefer the most abominable things. Hogs are very
fond of eating stool. Our guru maharaja used to tell us that if you offer a hug
nice fresh halawa, the hog, if he has a choice, he will say give me nice stool
instead. They have no discriminations. So similarly human civilization they do
not what is to be done and what is to be not done. All over the world people
are eating abominable substances. So this is a civilization where people have
lost the power to discriminate between what is valuable and what has no
value. People are giving the opportunity especially the people of India, they
are giving the opportunity of the most precious, highest jewels attainable in
human life to decorate their life with that jewel. The jewel of religion, the jewel
of philosophy, that can give you the integrity, respectability the honor, and the
understanding in realization by which you can truly guide the people of the
world to real peace and real unity. That is available to everyone India, rich or
poor. But although the jewel, is being placed right within the hand, but they
are throwing the jewel down to pick up the garbage of this world, modern
technology, scientific advancement, money, fame, prestige, sex life. These
things are considers so valuable. But compare to the opportunity to live in
eternal life full of peace and knowledge. It is useless. So man is become like
hogs. You game the halawa of pure devotional service and they want the stool
of sense gratification. They reject it. They throw it away. Is not this true? Look
around. Even in the name of religion and practically every one is simply
chasing after material sense enjoyment. Dhruva Maharaja wanted the highest
sense enjoyment, you can imagine. He wanted to control a kingdom is greater
than his own grandfather, who happen to be Lord Brahma, great grandfather.
His father was King Uthannapada. His grandfather was Svaymbhuba Manu. His
great grandfather was Lord Brahma. He went to the forest to perform tapasya
to attain a Kingdom greater than his great grandfathers. After performing
devotional service under the instructions of the great sadhu, Srila Narada

Muni, the supreme Lord Narayana, appeared before Dhruva Maharaja. He said,
Dhruva Ill give you anything you desire. You want a kingdom like your
grandfather or great grandfather, it is awarded to you. Dhruva Maharaja said,
no. What do I want such a foolish kingdom for? It is all temporary. It has no
eternal value. Now that I have your darshan, now I am feeling peace, the bliss
of loving you. Now I can broadcast your glories throughout the world. Now I
am completely content, completely satisfied. My dear lord, I do not desire
anything else. I was looking for broken pieces of glass. But now I have attained
a rare diamond. That was the realizations of Dhruva. But the realization of the
people of todays society. If they are given a real diamond and they are saying
no, what am I want this old diamond for. Give me nice glasses how much I get.
They are greedy for glass, broken glass. Economic development. Sense
gratification. Therefore this is an age, where people are essentially like hugs.
They have no discrimination of what is valuable and what is not valuable.
Krishna says in Bhagavad-Gita that Kali Yuga means civilization of people what
they do not know what is to be done and what is not to be done. They mistake
religion to the irreligion and irreligion to the religion. And hardly anyone is
interested in educating people in the real values of life. Our guru maharaja
used to say that the education institutions in the west are nothing more than
spiritual slaughter houses. They will teach the highest scientific
understandings of the most technological fields and expand a persons brain to
bigger bigger and bigger concepts that how to manipulate and exploit the
resource of material nature. That in meanwhile lust, greed, envy, anger, pride,
and illusion grow and grow, greater greater and greater in peoples hearts.
Intoxication, illicit sex, meat eating, and gambling. They encouraged by the
whole society surround them and by the time the students come out form the
colleges, they are very very expert at manipulation and exploitation. Because
their hearts were full of greed, lust, and pride. What do you think they are
going to do for the world with all of their great power. I tell you, what they can
do for the world. Read the news papers any day of the week and you will see
what they are doing to the world. The problems of the world are all the cause
by the intelligent class. Not by the illiterate. Not the big problems of the world.
Why? Because the students are not trained to discriminate, what is a valuable
and what is not? Who am I? What is god? What are the laws of god? What will
give me peace? In fact when I was a young boy. Everyday before school was
start, it was a law that you have to take the right hand and place it over your
heart and you have to look up towards on the stripes of the red, white, and
blue flag of the United States and you have to plays your -. If you didnt, you
would be kicked out of school. And everyone said to gather and plays your to
the flag of the United States of America and to the republic, which stands one
nation under god, indivisible for liberty and justice for all. You cannot believe
that Krishna allow me to remember this. It has been thirty years. Any ways
what happened is, after sometime they cancelled it. It became illegal to say
the play the to the flag, why? Because of the last line, one nation under
god. They made a law that the name god or anything having to do with
religion is absolute illegal to discuss in school. Now on the propagating such a

godless condition of life. What you expect the students to do with all the
educations now they acquire? They have no discrimination. They do not know
what is the difference between eternal and temporary. They do not know what
is the sin? They do not know what is the consequences of sin. And what is the
result? Completely unrestrictive sense enjoyment. The sexual resolution. The
young generation decided, what do you taking about, no sex. It feels good. If it
feels good, do it. That is our philosophy. You are talking about sins and all
these things. We do not care. If it feels good, do it. So, what happens, if a man
or woman, by the time their sixteen or eighteen years old, if they have not had
sex, there is something wrong with them. They should go to a psychiatrics.
They are socially out cast. If you are a seventeen or eighteen year old man
and you havent had any sex, people will look ate you and say one thing, my
god, whats wrong with you? You are rejected. People were have sex not even,
because they want it but just accepted by their generation. What is the result?
There were harpies then there were ganeria and cephalous. Somehow or other
by scientific advancement, they combated with these things and created the
cure. Yes, you can have sex fearlessly. And now a days big problem, according
to their science, according to their USA health department, they said, age
continues to grow by the year 2000 at the rate is growing now 20% of America
will die of AIDS. And by the middle of that century 50% of America will die of
AIDS. Now you think, this is impossible. This is our -. But not more than a few
hundred years ago in Europe, there was the black plague. In entirely 50% of
the entire population of that country died within two years. In England 60% of
the population of the entire country died within few years. Ireland 90% of the
population died within 10 years. In the entire of Europe 60% of the population
of the entire continent died of that disease. That was less then a thousand
years ago, it happens an age is far worse of sever disease than the plague.
People do not understand. That you commit sinful activities, you have to pay
the consequence, why? Why because they are ignorant? Why are they
ignorant? Because people do not bother to educate people the laws of god. If
you do not believe in god, how can you understand the laws of god. And if do
not accept the laws of god, then you have to pay the consequences and suffer
one who sin. Therefore the biggest Phd and professors, the greatest politicians
in the land, the quality of their life is the life of a hug. They have no
discrimination. They do not know what is valuable and what is not valuable.
What is right or what is wrong. What is the consequences of that they are
doing? The present at the United States that they are sending hundreds and
thousands of young people to the battles of Vietnam to be killed and
mutilated. That same president gained his power and glory and his wealth by
slaughtering cows. In his name there are hundreds and thousands of cows
miraculously slaughtered. And the people of America nominated and elected
him the supreme ruler of their land. When the blind lead the blind they all fall
into the ditch, why? >>>. Then who are who are like hugs. They honor and
worship the biggest hug. Then who are like dogs honor and worship the
biggest dog. Srimad Bhagavatam also compares asses to the human
civilization. What is the qualification of an ass? An ass works so hard. Did you

ever see how hard an ass works. In America there is a saying, if somebody is
working hard, they says he is working like an ass. It is not a very flattering
thing to say about somebody. They will take acute loads of wood or grain
whatever and just put it on the asses back. The more they can put on it the
more the put on it. And the ass he can hardly walks, his legs are trembling and
after the walks mile after mile after mile. He will be so tired. He will be
foaming at the mouth. And at the end of the day, they will give him a little
grass. He will think ah, it was worth it. I get to eat this nice grass. Then he
comes home to the see ass and usually if you ever watch asses. Actually I
made study of asses. I can my degree in the study of asses, which is informal
degree. Its a fact. The she ass is very expert at making, he ass thinks that the
she ass really likes him. When the he ass approaches the she ass with his
mind completely attached to the idea that Ill enjoy, then she takes her legs
and kicks him in the face and he falls to the ground. He just thinks my god.
What happened? I am never again do that again. I am never again fall for that
trap again. Then he gets up and he starts eating his grass again. Then she
comes and waves her tales on his face, he says ah, actually she does like me.
Then the whole process takes place again and tell ah let us enjoy. He gets
kicks on the face. So through the whole night, he simply eating a little grass
and getting kicked in the face. And his working foaming at the mouth of the all
day for that. It sound familiar. People works so hard, here in Bombay they
stand on the train, were just like just everybody just putting their elbows in
your eyes and you are just been covered. The dirty train and you finally get to
the station and if you little wealthy then you go through the traffic inhaling
poisons exhaust fumes. People are honking at you and screaming at you. Why
you cutting me? Then you finally go to the work and there is so much
expected you and you just work like an ass, foaming at the mouth. When you
take your train back, after nine hours of hashed in the office or in the fields,
where ever you are working. Usually no one really respects or appreciates,
how much you putting into your job. Everyone just takes for granted. It is not
the way you do this? You deserve more money but they wont give to you. And
then you come home and you get a little food, and then your children usually
they never listen what you are saying. Thats their way of kicking on the face.
The neighbors and usually your wife or husband, not necessarily that so gross
as an ass for sex life. But in so many other ways everyone in all around you
just kicking on your face. You work all day. I remember my own father. This is
work like an ass. He just leaves at 6 o clock in the morning and come home at
10 o clock at night. My mother was saying, why are you late? Why are you
always late? Just kicking in his face. And then the children we always did
nonsense, we did he wanted us to do. He was just said, why I am working so
hard and do all these things for you. Why you do not do any thing for me? No
appreciation, no love. But if I do not work, I wont get all this. So in this way
men are like asses. They work so hard for what? Mudha. And camels. It is
describes that the camel his favorite food is thrones. When he chews on the
thrones, he started to bleed his mouth, his tongue just started excreting blood.
He started to shaken at blood and he drinks the blood and he thinks ah, this

blood is very tasty. He does not what is blood. He thinks the thrones. He thinks
these thrones are so tasty. These are so delicious and juicy. There is no juice in
thrones. He is drinking his own blood. He is mutilating his own body and he is
thinking it tastes good. So this the process of sense gratification. We enjoy our
senses. Actually while we are doing is we are simply tasting the very life of our
the blood what just letting all drain from us. In this way our whole duration of
life is being spoiled and we are enjoying it. So Srimad Bhagavatam says that
the man who are like dog, hugs, camels, and asses, the greatest pleasure in
human society is sex. In India so much like that. But of course the population
is growing so much, so much. Some extent people like that. But in America is
very gross. What is sex life? According to Srimad Bhagavatam and according
to science, you are loosing your own blood. It takes ounces of blood to create
one drop of semen. And you are losing it all and you are thinking that its
enjoyable. That is the mentality of a foolish camel. So men who are like dogs,
hogs, camels, and asses, they praising and glorifying and who are like bigger
dogs, hogs, camels, and asses. And this the condition of society. Therefore
people do not understand, what are the real problems of life and how they are
to be solved. Such persons they do not understand that human life is mean for
quality. It is not just meant simply for quantity like the dogs, hugs, camels, and
asses. It is not meant like the tree. Human life is meant for self realization.
Human life is meant to understand the degraded condition by which there is
no more birth, old age, disease, and death. Human life is meant to transcend
these problems and realize the true nature of the self. The problem of death is
very bad and the problem of birth, its a big problem. The population of earth
is growing and growing and growing and nobody knows when there will stop.
And people are trying so many remedies to solve the problems. Let us have
abortion. Let us have contraceptive, Let us have family planning, but somehow
or other we have to curve the population of the world. That the population is
growing and growing and growing despite all their efforts. There was a
billboard I saw here in Bombay, that they says our 70000 borne a day. Did you
see that billboard? My god, so many babies a day. There is shortage of space.
There is shortage of food. There is shortage of medical accommodations.
There is shortage of educational facilities, cannot keep up with it. There is a
tremendous problem due to birth. There is a tremendous problem due to
death. There tremendous problems of old age. In America, there is a horrible
problem of what to do with old people. In India there is some culture, what the
children take care of their parents until they die. But in America as soon as you
turn 18 and you can legally leave the house, you have noting to do with your
parents, expect the phone call a couple of time a year or may be couple of
times a months, if you are very closed. Nobody lives with their parents. Too
troublesome. Therefore the parents, they do not know what to do. When they
are old, they have what called social security. But nobody cares about them.
Nobody loves them. They cannot protect themselves. They go onto the
retirement home and old fox home they called it. And they just laying there
and higher people they just giving them this, and give him that. So a person
when old. The quantity of old people is growing more and more and more.

Because they are giving these old people so many drugs or having longer
lives, not naturally but through the drugs. And everybody else they are living a
little longer in a completely helpless condition and everybody else is growing
to that age. And its a huge population explosion of old people. And nobody
knows what to do it with them. Its one of them unsolvable or unpredictable
problem in America. Nobody cares about these people. What we can do with
them? The government is scratching their heads. And in so much care and so
much attention. And they being cheated so cruelly. Because nobody cares
about them, nobody wants them. And to the degree India becomes westernize
to that degree that will bet the condition of the old people. So this is a big
problem old age. And disease, my god we already talked about age, what to
speak on cancer. We have doctors in this room. We have people who are
owners of medical clinics. They know what a problem to disease. Our Arbind
Mafatlal the father of Sri Dainandan Matitali Priay, out of his charitable
devotion to his guru maharaja, he performs tens, thousands free eye
operations for people who are ordinarily go blind. There is such problem
disease in this world for the young, for the middle age, for the old. In this
country the problem with disease, is people have curable disease but they
have no money to treat them. So that they just going blind, going death,
getting leprosy. If they just have little money, or little education they can be
avoided. The people are unnecessarily suffering and dying because of lack of
money and education. Recently we were in Ganesh puri, and we were
discussing with these very religious people, who have a hospital bus. They go
to the gate of the hospital buses and people are suffering from diseases. But
they were not taking medicine. Because they are just illiterate people. They do
not know better. They say that the government, when you want what is that
disease? If you get an abortion, the government will pay you something like
two hundred rupees. So these people they have disease. The charitable
doctors come to their homes and say, we want to teach you take this medicine
and be cured. They say how much will you pay me? How much will I Pay? I am
giving you everything for free. They say, while for an abortion we can get two
hundred rupees. What you can pay me? You do not pay me. I do not want your
treatment. That is the condition. People are foolish. In America peoples have
not only lots of money, they are highly educated. But they have as much as
disease as in India. But the problem is different. Due to such an extremely and
exorbitantly, unnatural life style. They have diseases that cannot be cured.
The richest people in America, most of them go to psychiatrics. They have
mental disease which is actually more afflicting and painful than physical
disease. People do not commit suicide over physical disease very much. But
mental disease people commit suicide, which means mental disease, anxiety,
is more of the condition of suffering than physical disease. And as far as
physical diseases, cancer, age, heart disease, these things are practically
incurable. And its a big big problem, due to unrestricted sense enjoyment.
Disease is a big big problem in this world. Birth, old age, disease, and death
these are the four problems of life. Not how to have better food, not how can I
get a better job, how can I get a nice family, how can I have nicer cloth, or how

can I protect my reputation. These are not the problems. The real problems of
life are birth, old age, disease, and death and with all of our scientific
advancement and all of our persuade of economic development. No one is
coming any closer to solving any of these four problems. There is only one
solution to these four problems is Knowledge. Knowledge that birth, old age,
disease, and death are only pretend to this physical temporary body.
Inevitably they were sadhus. The solution is to understand that you are
not this physical body but you are the eternal soul.
na jyate mriyate v kadcin
nya bhtv bhavit v na bhya
ajo nitya vato 'ya puro
na hanyate hanyamne sarire
Bhagavad-Gita 2.20
For the soul, there is neither birth, old age, disease, or death. na hanyate
hanyamne sarire. The soul is not slain when the body dies. Bhagavad-Gita
says, the soul cannot be cut into species by any weapon, it cannot be withered
by the wind, it cannot be moistened by the water, it is indestructible and you
are the eternal soul.

Bhagavad-Gita 2.22
That the body as a dress. It is like a garment. Just like today you have dressed.
How longer your dress remain. You know inevitably by wearing it is going to be
get worn out and to going to have get another one. So what? What is the big
deal? It is inevitable. Why do you attached to your cloths? You remain the
same whole healthy being whether your cloth gets ripped up or not. So
similarly when the soul is healthy, when the soul is in the knowledge, when
you realize that you are the eternal soul, when you realize you are eternal
blissful condition, then the problem of birth, old age, disease, and death,
which are inevitable upon your body. No longer disturbs you. As long you are
in the bodily concept of life, there is no question of lasting constant peace. The
foolish materialist, they have their philosophy, why do you not like suffering.
After all there was not suffering, you would not really be enjoyed the good
times. Is not that what everyone says? If there was on the bad time, we would
not appreciate the good times. This is because they have no conception of
anything beyond this, happiness and distress. The dualities of material
existence. The spirit soul is beyond dualities of material existence. The soul by
his own nature is satchidananda vigrah. It is eternal, full of knowledge and full
of bliss. Therefore Krishna says in Gita, One who is intelligent, he is a lumen
from within and he is enlightening within, he is rejoys within. He finds his
pleasure within. All the joy and glory of spiritual world is within your heart. If
we left that behind, searching after the morasses of material existence. When
we are in desert, do you expect to quench your thirst in a desert? No one
quench their thirst in a desert. The desert is a place of hot sun and hot sand.

But just keep you livened being in a desert there is from time to time so many
morasses. A morass is a contact of the sun, heating the sand and it appears
that there is a water. And you start running after that water thinking, Aha, now
I will be happy. Now I am finding the success in the goal of my life. There is
water to quench my thirst. Then you like a mad man.
. Srimad
Bhagavatam says one who is searching for in this world is like a mad man,
in sense chasing around morass in a desert. What to hope to get? I tell what
you get. You go to that morass and you say Ill quench my thirst and put it in
your mouth then it is hot sand. You spit it out. But there is a real pleasure.
Another words the reason, why you are chasing after the morass of water in
the desert, the illusion of water in the desert. Because there is somewhere real
water. If there is not real water somewhere, you would not be thinking that
thats it. If there is no real money there would not be such counterfeit money.
Counterfeit is imitation of what should be real. So real pleasure is within you,
real water is within you. And in this world, there is simply the reflection or the
image the illusion of that water outside of you. That you are constantly
chasing after, chasing after, chasing after like the sand you are holding in your
hands, but how long you can keep sand in your hands. It runs through your
fingers and lost. The pleasure of the so called pleasures of this world that even
if you think its pleasing and due course of time its gone. You cant hold onto
any thing. So therefore an intelligent man understands within nectar, -,
whether real nourishment is. Caitanya Mahaprabhu has said.
nandmbudhi-vardhana prati-pada prmtsvdana
sarvtma-snapana para vijayate r-ka-sakrtanam

That everyone is looking for pleasure. The pleasure, you are all seeking and
searching and hunting for, throughout your life, through out your journey in
this world birth after birth after birth, is right within your heart. And by
chanting the name of the god, you can break open that store house of spiritual
nourishment and enjoy eternally. By chanting the holy name of the lord we
awaken the pleasure potency of god which is within our own heart. By the
chanting of the transcendental sound vibration of Hari Nama, you can realize
the eternal reality of our own existence. And through the simple process of
chanting the holy name of god, we can solve all the problems. Once in for all
of birth, old age, disease, and death. It is so simple. Man is making so many
arrangements to solve these problems and getting no where. It is getting
worse and worse. The more you try to solve the problems of material life, the
more you became entangle in the complexities of this existence. But simply by
chanting gods name, all problems would be solved. If you having a nightmare,
you are dreaming that you are in a very difficult condition, the problem is not
within the dream to be solved. The problem is simply to wake up. The spirit
soul is sleeping. Its dreaming. As soon as the soul simple wakes up to its
reality there is no problems. The only problem in this world is lack of god
consciousness. The only problem in this entire creation is lack of Krishna
Consciousness. As soon as the Krishna Consciousness awakens within your
heart, there is no problems.

then you understand the truth. You know the truth is perfect and complete and
everything emanating from the truth is perfect and complete. Everything is
elimination on this absolute truth. Therefore in this god conscious condition of
life you see, how everything is perfect and complete. And you can be fully
satisfied in any condition, whether you are a businessman, a doctor, an
agriculturist farmer, a video recorder man, house wife, mother, father, or
lawyer. Whatever you may be, it does not matter. If you perform your duty in
divine consciousness with realization of the souls relationship with supreme
soul or God, self realization. Then you are like a lotus flower. A lotus flower can
even grow in the muddiest place, but the lotus flower remains fresh and pure.
The soul cannot be contaminated by any conditions of this world. This is the
since of self realization. This is the goal of life. This is the only means of
solving the real problems within our own life personally and if we really want
to be the keeper of our brothers, the well wisher, lover, our family members,
our fans, our society members, if you really want to be a true charitable well
wisher of all living beings.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu said those born in India, it is their birth right to be god
conscious. Everyone else in this world, it is also their birth right to some
extent. But their birth is very far comparatively to understanding these
principles. So it is the duty and first and foremost responsibility of every
human being, especially those who have the opportunity of they are born in
India to perfect their own lives through the process of self realization and by
giving the greatest charity of that same enlightenment throughout the world.
And in this way we can actually tangibly practically and really solve the
problems of life. So let us take this very seriously. For those who are just
coming and trying to get some quittance with the philosophy of Krishna
Consciousness. My humble request is that you seriously reflect on the subject
matter that is being discussed to night. Because it does pertained to you, real
value like the values of your life and really question what to I want. What is the
goal? What is wide life? What is life to be bereft for? What is the quality I want
to develop within my life? Is there god? Who is god? What is my relationship
with god? What is real happiness? What is real love? Ask these questions? Do
not simply leave this room and think oh, it was a nice lecture. We are not
concern giving nice lectures. Our concern is not to convert people to this
religion or to that religion. Our concern is simply that people take very
seriously and contemplate on what is the true goal of life. What do I really
want in life? What is human life meant for? And for those who have already
accepted Krishna Consciousness my humble request, is that everyday we have
to take an inventory and reevaluate our own goals, reevaluate our own

commitments and try to purify and crystallize that seed of devotion within us.
And question with the core of our heart what I am really doing to help the
world and how can I do more? Thank you very much.
Is there any questions?
QD: God has created dog, hug, and human beings, everything is the creation
of god. So how is that he is not providing dogs, hugs that thought of
discriminating between good and white?
AM: Because it is the law of nature that if you do not use something you have,
is taken away. Correct. Just like if your leg is put in a cast for six months, when
you take up the cast you have to walk on crouches. Your leg has lost as ability
to walk. Because it has used the facility that it has. Correct. Anything in this
world if you not use it, then you lose it in due course of time. If you have the
human birth, which is exclusively meant for self realization and you neglect to
use it for that purpose. Then the lower species of life is a facility where you
can try to enjoy the facilities of the physical body but you lose the opportunity
for self realization. There are eight million four hundred thousands species of
life of which eight million have no power to understand the goal of life, why?
Because they have unfortunately waste the opportunity previously, so their
soul is cast into those species of life. But each of those species is gradually
evolving through the process of spiritual transmigration. Ultimately all species
of life are coming closer and closer to the human form and after perhaps going
to eight million species you come to the human form of life. There are four
hundred thousands species of human life of which most of are uncivilized.
When you finally come to a civilized condition of life than an only band you
have the opportunity to perfect the needs of the soul. Then you are given
discrimination, you are given intelligence and you are given the power to
chose, which no others specie of life is awarded. The purpose of that
independent choice, the purpose of that discrimination and intelligence is to
examine attvato brahma jinasa to enquire and examine what is the goal of
life? Who am I? What is god? And what is my relationship with god? If you
utilize your good human birth for that purpose and emphasize that of course
like the animal we have to maintain our physical bodies but that is not the
goal. Like the animals we have to maintain our families, but that is not the
goal. The goal is self realization. If you are not willing to use the goal of your
life for that goal and pursue that goal then for one, who does not use they will
lose. There is nothing more unfortunate than that. There is no greater
misfortune than wasting the valuable opportunity of human birth.
QD: What does meant by self realization?
AM: We have already explained the difference between the body and the soul.
Jesus Christ said be in this world but no out this world. The body will grow old,
get diseased and die. If your pleasure is coming from the body, then all your

pleasure for ultimate be frustrated. But if you are deriving pleasure from what
is within, your happiness, your peace will never be frustrated. Because that
pleasure is not subjected to the natural conditions of this physical world. That
pleasure is on the spiritual platform. Consciousness is itself eternal. There is
no such thing is temporary consciousness. Consciousness is the symptoms of
the presence of the soul and all consciousness is eternal. Because all
consciousness is emanating from god. It is directly connected to god, who is
the supreme source of all consciousness. It is just like a sunray. You as part of
god like a sunray and god is like the sun. Now even though a sunray may be
on this earth is the sunray considered as its home considered to be earth or
the sun? Which one? The sun ray is right here on the earth. But the home of
the sunray is earth or the sun? Because it is coming form the sun. It is have
the same qualities as the sun. It is not have the same qualities as the earth. It
is not coming from the earth. It just happens to be here. But it connected to
the sun. It is almost like hanging from the sun, right! So similarly are you
conscious or unconscious? This world of matter is unconscious, all mater is
unconscious. But the soul is conscious. Therefore the soul has nothing directly
to do with this on conscious matter, although its happens to be here. But its
connection and its source is god, who is the supreme source of all
consciousness. So if you are relating yourself, if the sunray is thinking I am
part of this world, this earth. It isnt. But as long as you thinks is it, it is
identifying with the deadness of this world, right, what of the sunray
understands the real possession that my real connection is to the sun. My real
source is the sun. My real nature is on part of the sun. Even the sunray on this
world and is watching all the deadness of this world is not affected. So
similarly when we understand that we are part of god, we are coming from
god or our real home is god, we are eternally connected to god. Even though
we know may be in this physical body, watching the dead body go through the
process of old age, disease, and death. As long as we are remembering our
connection to god, there is no suffering. The body is suffering, but the soul is
finding its pleasure in god, not in this world. The soul is finding pleasure where
real pleasure is within your own existence.
QD: We are experience so logically and rationally going so much sense and we
cant understand how we are the soul and identify we are not the body, then
why it is so difficult for us to actually realize?
AM: You have a fighting chance, but you have to go and fight to take the
chance. People are very conditioned. People are conditioned since time
immemorial by their own activities and by their own choice to be hankering
after the temporary flickering pleasures of this world. And therefore to revote
your consciousness back again to your won virtuous qualities and relationship
with god, takes a total transformation of our life we have the completely
recondition our entire wave thinking our entire value system, which is not very
easy thing. But then again if you want something valuable, you have to pray
the price. If you want broken glass, you can pay anything for it. It does not

cost much. If you want a diamond, you have to willing to pay. Nothing good in
this world is cheep, unless you willing to recondition your life and reevaluate
your values in life. Stand out from among man and be separate in your way of
thinking. Then you are not the worthy of self realization. Simply by accepting
the value and goal of life being god and god consciousness and chanting the
holy names is not very difficult. But because of the social conditioning around
us, is so this. It appears difficult. But if we are in association of saintly
persons, it makes it much easier. Because it is easier to recondition ourselves.
That is why association with saintly persons is the most important part of our
spiritual development. It makes it simple. Of course this is the age of Kali Yuga.
The reason why a person takes birth in Kali Yuga is because of his karma is
very very spiritually low. In Satya Yuga a hundred percent of the population
was god consciousness. In Tretaya Yuga 75% of the whole population was god
conscious. In Dwapara Yuga 50% of the population was god conscious. In Kali
Yuga at the beginning hardly 25% and gets less and less than less. So the fact
you born in Kali Yuga means it could be very difficult, why? Because of the
whole atmosphere, environment all around you is so contaminated by illusion,
ignorance, greed, lust and pride. It is very difficult to distract yourself from all
the social pressures and all the atmospheric pressures, they are just driving
you to materialistic ways, very difficult. Therefore in Kali Yuga god is so kind.
Krishna is so Kind that He gives the process that is simple that anyone can
perfect their lives. Kali Yuga you have no qualities. Everything around you is so
against your persuade for spiritual life. Therefore in this age all you have to do
is associated with sadhus and chant the holy names and you will attain
perfection. Krishna is very kind. Because in other ages it is not very difficult.
But in Kali Yuga it is so difficult. The Supreme Personality of Godhead gives
such a simple process to compensate, so that anyone who has sincerity in the
age of Kali can and will attain the perfection of self realization. But even
though Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu the great avatar of Sri Krishna is coming
and freely giving the holy name, freely giving the way to eternal peace to
everyone still, he is begging just take it is free. Do not pay anything, just take
it. Man woman, child, literate, illiterate, rich, poor, it does not matter. Just
chant Hare Krishna. Nobody wants to do it. There neighbors are say, there
friends and colleagues may say. Even no they understand. This is the
unfortunate condition. But if you take the mercy of the lord, if you take the
holy name, you are the most fortunate.
QD: Even we accept the first part is that if our intelligent can understand to
the process but then again you are now saying that the simplest form the way
in this world in this kali yuga is to chant. It is difficult for us to believe that to
them to remove right our senses on dignity and refinement and use our
intellect to understand this process of detaching ourselves; we are the souls
not the body. And who is control on chant, dance and do these childish
activities. Is this only way to become relief?

AM: Lord jesus said until you become like a child, you do not fit to enter into
the kingdom of god. We are gods children. The problem is, we are trying to be
the master or we are trying to be the controller. We should accept the position;
we are the humble child of god. The greatest philosophers and they ever steps
on this earth, Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Rupa Goswami, Jiva Goswami what are
they teaching. They were dozens and hundreds of books of the deepest
scrutinizing philosophy ever seen by man and their conclusion is always is the
same. That the realizations of this philosophy is to chant the holy names, to
dance, to glorify the lord. The philosophy can show you the way. But the actual
realization comes through the chanting of the name. I can described you
honey, but until open the jar and taste it, you will never really know, what is
honey? Philosophy can explain to you and convince you that honey is good.
But until you open the jar and taste it you never actually be nourished. So the
process of chanting and dancing which is introduced by Lord Caitanya which is
recommended in Vedic literatures is not a childish activities to the saintly
persons. People who in a false sense of false prestige are fighting over dignity
and honor, that is totally childish. But some is willing to put all that side and
chanting the holy names in ecstasy and dance, those persons are actually
grown up. They grown beyond the superficialities of material life. Everything is
child and everything is childish. Did you ever see over children, they have a
toy and they say this toy is mine, no this toy is mine. I am a better player than
you are. I want the grace. No no I want the grace, why? They are talking about
their honor and dignity. I am the best football player and all of Khar. No no I
am a best football player on all of Khar. But look at I can do like this but you
cheated I did like this. They are fighting over their dignity and honor. Do you
know children fight like this? But what is the parents think? What is such
stupid dignity and honor? How to piety childishness? So the big big politicians
and big big business man they are so attached to their honor to their dignity,
which is all ahankar (false ego). The sadhu laugh and said it, how childish.
When they will grow up.
QD: AS we are living spiritual souls, as we are originally Krishna
Consciousness, why did be chews to be envious to the Krishna Consciousness.
At that time why did you .?
AM: The more important question is why did you continue to be envious? You
are a doctor, a patient least treats help and gets sick. Why did he do it?
Because he is crazy. The question is how can you done it? Now why do you
continue it to do this? Thats the real question. He is the medicine. The real
question is why do not you take the medicine and be cured. The fact is you are
sick. You made a mistake. You have your freedom of choice. Freedom to love
and has to include the freedom to leave, right. Without freedom there can be
no love. So god gives us freedom. So if we misuse our freedom and we left
god. We wanted to enjoy the position of god rather than accept the servant of
god, accepts the service of the lord. So this material world is a place to
facilitate those who want to live independent of the loving service to the lord,

those who want to be the enjoyer rather than be the enjoyed. Why you came
here? Because you have that independence. Because you have that right. But
now you understand the predicament area. The real question is why do you
remain here? Why do you remain in ignorance? Remaining in this world is no
problem? We are not against this world? We are against the ignorance. Even if
you are in this world, if you have knowledge, you are actually in this spiritual
world. If your knowledge, you see this world is the spiritual world. But if you
are in ignorance, you cannot see. The problem is ignorance. And the illusion to
the problem is knowledge. Not theoretical knowledge but realize knowledge.
And that comes through the simple process of hearing and the association of
saintly persons and chanting the holy names. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna,
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
QD: Maharaja, you said that everyone should be chanting. How do we be
chanting control over our populations?
AM: Because dogs, hogs, camels, and asses, their lives is based on the
principle of ignorance. They do not know their real welfare. They do not know
their real goal of life. They do not know their real treasure that is within
themselves. This chanting opens the doors to liberation. This chanting
awakens within you all knowledge. All knowledge is herein within the soul. All
peace and prosperity is inherent within the soul. It is like sign that when the
sun rises, how will we going to get the darkness of the night? What is your
answer?
AD: The bright is ..
AM: So due to darkness of ignorance all these problems are taking place,
every problem birth, old age, disease, and death. They are all due to darkness
of ignorance. By the chanting of the holy names. The cloud of ignorance that is
covering the sun of the soul is removed. And when that light emanates from
the soul all darkness automatically dispelled.

That maya or ignorance like darkness and Krishna or knowledge is like the
sun. In the presence of Krishna darkness cannot exists. In the presence of the
sun darkness cannot exist. Krishna is within you. You are part of Krishna. When
the light of the soul is uncovered it shines for the whole world gives light and
no darkness can stand before you.
QD: How the population will be control?
AM: As long as you on the darkness, you cannot do, thinking wao in the
darkness, what about thieves, what about the snakes, what about the
scorpions. As long as you in the darkness there is no way you can understand

the solution to the problems. But when the sun rises, automatically all the
thieves and everyone else disappeared. Because such lowly creatures exists in
the darkness. It is very easy. When you are self satisfied within, then you have
controlled over your senses. When you have control over your senses and you
only have a child, when you want have a child. That is the way population is
supposed to be controlled by sense controlled. Through contraceptive,
abortion, and family planning wont account to control the population. But only
going to disturb the very natural balance of this material existence and it
could create havoc. Because it is an unnatural way of trying to control a
natural urge, right. The natural remedy for birth control is sense control. Is it
not? And only way you can control your senses is if you experiencing
something higher. Otherwise you cannot give up these lower pleasures. When
you realize the pleasure of the soul, when you experience the sweetness of
the holy names, then you become in defend to these materialistic pleasures.
And you can understand what the evolution of this world is? and what is
coming to and you can actually act responsibly. To the degree more and more
people are educated and experience these realizations to that degree this
problem of the world will be solved. But in the mean time, if you not part of
this solution, you are the part of the problem. You understand.
QD: God give this opportunity like, even there is some people, who listen
about this and even they very very educated also. But it does not effect on
them. Like god has given this opportunity to know education -. Why does not
happen? Why should this happen? Because originally we have been Krishna
Consciousness.
AM: That means they have the mentality of owls. You know, I do not know if in
India youth say like this. But in the western civilization, when you are very
wise, they say your wise is like an owl. Do you say like that here? The owls
consider very wise. What is the wisdom of an owl? An owl only is awake in
darkness. And owl sleeps all day when there is light and he comes awake
when there is darkness. He is very expert. He looks very wise. He looks very
saintly, just see he like this. He looks very wise and very grave. But actually he
is a creature of the night. He is creature of darkness. His wisdom is wisdom
within darkness. So the so called big big scholars in philosophers of this world,
they are wise like owls. They are very expert at living in the darkness. Unless
you willing to give up your occupation as an owl and sincerely try to transform
your life and understand higher principles. Unless you are willing to humble
yourself and accept that I do not know, please instruct me. Unless you are
sincere and willing to become submissive, you cannot truly grasp spiritual
concepts of life. And the fact is people are so proud of being owls. They are
not willing to sincerely submit themselves and humble themselves before a
teacher. And therefore even though they hear so many things and so many
things makes sense to them. They want to remain wise in their world of
darkness. They are not willing to come into the light. Because of they come in,
if an own come into the light he no longer the wise man. He is just the regular

old bird. As long as he is a creature of night, he is the wise owl. But in the day
he is just an ordinary bird. So we are very proud of our prestigious condition in
the darkness. If we take to spiritual life, we just have to humble our self and
understand I am simply, I have to admit and I am just the in significant servant
of god. Are you willing to do that? Very few people are. That is why, even they
know come to lecture, they leave and they remain the same. Because they
want to remain creatures of the night.
