As mentioned in most of his dialogues, good sports may be achieved if we
analyze it according to Platos basic hierarchical divisions. His appetite soul aims to earn material cognition such as medals and prizes. The emotional soul talks about honor and glory. The last and possibly the highest level would be reasonable soul. According to Plato, man no longer needs the recognition of outside elements. Man is now concerned with his selffulfillment. When relating to sports, it is also imperative that we take up Platos view on sophrosune, which coarsely mean nothing in excess. When Plato earlier in his dialogues mentioned about this and his arte, he was looking into the virtues of piety, temperance, justice and courage. When these are all employed while engaging in sports, one acquires good sports in itself. According to Plato, good sports may be achieved through proper self-control, a model of discipline. If only we can achieve winning upon consideration of the number of hours put into training, then it would be a lot easier. However, we are all aware that life is not made easier that way. Blood, sweat and tears are very costly yet these are foremost capital in all endeavors related to sports. Athletes do not just employ the science of winning but also uses the delicate art of athletics in finding ways of maximizing improvement without exceeding mental, physical and emotional limits for in the world of sports, it is not rare to suffer all forms of excesses and deficiencies. Indeed, Platos virtues of piety and sophrosune indicate knowing ones self and nothing in excess and are blatantly manifest in the modern athletic culture of self-knowledge and discipline. According to study, it is always good to love a winner because of the recognition that victory needs self-knowledge which is uncommon and difficult to achieve as well as that discipline allows one to maximize his potentials without coming short not exceeding personal limits. The realization that ones limitations must be tamed by the realistic yet ambitious drive towards maximum performance, acquiring balance in achieving human excellence through good sports. Putting Platos view about good sports, victory does not totally recognize the contextual winning. We should value winning more because of the virtues we associate with it. Selffulfillment and discipline are of utmost importance to experience true winning. Jeane Kathleen Kimm Isla-Arcan SWM131

By ethical standards, it is a normative ethical position that judges and assumes the morality of an action based on the actions adherence to the rule of rules. Judging from the above description, I think deontology has a lot to do with ones ability and capability to follow a given set of rules and adherence to it becomes imperative and obligatory. As it is, it becomes binding on the person because of the elements or duty. Relating it to sports, it is an athletes duty to adhere to a given set of rules which govern any discipline. This rules become determinants in the achievement of victory. It provides the gauge relative to rightness or wrongness of an action to be executed in order to make the action in conformity with standards.
