Proposal on BIM Strategy

BIM Strategy
Objective:
This document details the understanding of the BIM requirements of CPC - 05 MEP
Scope of work, Work Process & Project Deliverables.
Modeling:
KCT will provide basic Architectural and Structural 3D models to Arabian MEP
including MEP services IFC Drawings.
3D BIM Modeling of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Drainage model shall be
developed by Arabian MEP Engineering team by using software's such as: Autodesk
Revit & NAVIS works etc.

Constructability Review:
Arabian MEP will raise RFI if required, model Updation to reflect changes resulting
from any Design changes.

BIM Strategy
Clash Co-ordination:
The 3D BIM Models created by Arabian MEP will be Combined for Plumbing,
Mechanical, Chilled water and Electrical cable trays, coordinated and checked for
interference and conflicts. Detailed clash reports will be generated on a regular basis
and submitted to KCT with proposed solutions. The model(s) will be updated as
suggested by KCT to resolve the clashes. This process will continue until a clash free
coordinated model is achieved.
Arabian MEP designers can make suggestions to changes to help and speed up the
running process.
Quantity Take-Off:
Detailed Quantity Takeoff will be generated From the clash free coordinated model.
Take-off will be created only for the elements/materials that are modeled.
Shop Drawings:
Shop Drawings in 2D will be generated from the clash free coordinated model.
Necessary annotations, dimensions and tagging will be done by Arabian MEP.

BIM Strategy
Work Process:
Arabian MEP design team will be headed by Engineering Manager ( MEP ) who will
be the single point contact for KCT and will be responsible for co-ordination and
smooth execution of the project.
A team of BIM professionals including BIM Coordinator (see attached BIM
Organization Chart) will be appointed under the Engineering Manager, who will coordinate with KCT and will provide 3D weekly progress reports from the BIM model.
An independent Quality Assurance and Quality Control team will be appointed
which will continuously monitor the quality of the production process to ensure
accuracy and compliance to project standards and deliverables.
Arabian MEP also proposes deployment of on-site BIM Professionals for ease of
communication and for conducting the Coordination meetings effortlessly.

BIM modeling & Constructability review:
BIM modeling would enable independent review of the contract drawings and
ensure that these are adequate from the construction point of view. RFI will be
generated to identify if required for the following.

All conflicting data

Input inconsistency
Missing data
Equipment operation clearance issues
Misc construction issues in the contract documents.
A complete RFI log will be maintained and the BIM model would be updated based
on responses from architect and consultants.

Clash Coordination:
The 3D model created would then be used to co-ordinate all MEP trades taking into
consideration the space required for installation and maintenance.
Clash reports will be prepared and distributed to KCT with the proposed solutions.
Coordination meetings will be done between Arabian MEP and KCT to discuss
possible resolution methods / tactics.
The 3D models will be adjusted as suggested by the engineers, architects to resolve
any clash that may arise during the coordination between the trades as required.
The objective is to integrate the services to develop a clash free coordinated model.
Thus, the construction model would be enhanced and shall be used for Scheduling,
Construction Sequencing and Constructability Analysis.
