Question 1

The Internet has become part of our lives, and many surveys show that an estimated
45 percent of children use the Internet and spend more than three hours on the
Internet every day of the week .
Thus, concerns have grown among parents over its impact on childrens behaviour
and the possible threats they face in the virtual sphere. Internet can be a wonderful
resource for both adults and children and is a great source of information and
entertainment. It enables children to easily access information for their homework,
connect with their friends or relatives or research issues that are of interest to them.
At the same time the Internet can also be dangerous, and there exists a growing
concern about its harmful effects when misused -- potentially, inflicting social and
psychological damage on children and pushing them into leading isolated, antisocial
individuals, while living in a virtual world away from real life. Overuse may ultimately
lead to Internet addiction, which negatively affects a childs scholastic performance,
relationship with the family and psychological health. As easily as children can locate
useful information, children can also access information that is unsuitable and
communicate with people they shouldnt come in contact with.
Although parents often encourage their children to use the Internet to access useful
information, giving them many unmonitored hours often allows them to go astray.
While parents think their kids are searching for information to complete a homework
assignment, they may well spend hours playing games online or come across
websites that are not meant for them, including inappropriate sites with pornographic
images or videos, information facilitating the use of drugs or alcohol or any kind of

violent content. Children subjected to such inappropriate content may experience

anxiety and behavioural expression disorders. Its up to parents to make sure their
kids spend that time safely on the Internet, experts say.
Children who spend much of their free time on the Internet may also lose the ability
to establish genuine face-to-face communication. They often do not realize they are
slowly being estranged from the real world when they spend more and more time in
the virtual sphere, which may negatively affect the childs confidence, activity levels
and diet and may lead to sleeplessness, constant headaches and a change in eating
habits . Children living in metropolitan areas are more likely to develop an Internet
addiction than those living in villages or small towns, as they have other forms of
entertainment available to them, such as playing outside with their friends. The
greatest danger to children lies in their own homes. Children spend more time
indoors on their gadgets than they do on outdoor fun activities like riding bikes and
scooters and other outdoor games, and as with other sedentary tasks like watching
television, Internet use can replace healthy physical activities such as sports and
outdoor exercise, leading to health problems like obesity and poor muscular
development, which is a clear physical risk for kids.
Experts also recommend exposing the child to other hobbies and activities,
monitoring computer use, establishing clear boundaries for Internet usage and
making sure that all of their Internet use is not devoted to chat rooms but includes
other activities such as doing research for homework, watching movies and reading
books. If nothing works, experts suggest counselling for both the parents and the
kids.

Question 2

With the rapid development of society, we have entered an era of information

explosion. In order to acquire more knowledge, more and more people decide to
further their study abroad. Studying abroad brings about many advantages. It widens
students' knowledge and horizons, and meanwhile cultivates their independence and
personalities.

When people's standard of living increase, they often think about improving their
knowledge for a better life. To do that, they choose to study in developed countries
where they can get progressive education. However ,everything has its advantages
and disadvantages, so studying abroad is not an exaptation.

In my opinion, I think studying abroad is the beat way to improve ourselves you
know, there are obvious advantages to study abroad.

We have chance to improve our language. I think nothing is better than to learn

language with the native speakers. Because we can practise with the local people
what we study at school, so it is very useful to improve our listening and speaking
skills. It also offer chances to discover the new cultures, way of thinking, history
,customs and lifestyles.

Studying abroad can cultivate students' ability to live independently and their
characters. Students have to deal with many problems when they study abroad.
They have to learn how to be accustomed to a new environment and how to get
along with the teachers and classmates. During their study, they can acquire some
interpersonal skills.

Furthermore, we have opportunities to study the new technologies and most recent
science achievements. In addition, we are equipped with the valuable and updated
knowledge which may help us find jobs easily after graduating.

However, studying abroad is often expensive. We have to pay not only for our school
fees but also for our living cost. Therefore, finance may become the biggest problem.
Consequently, it distracts our mind from studying to earning money.

Last but not least, adapting to a new environment is e real challenge for every
foreign student. While changing the weather can affect our health, different cultures
and customs may influence our mind and make us become less confident or even a
victim of discrimination. Every day may turn into a struggle for survival in a strange
country. If we dont have enough physical and mental strength ,we will fail to adjust

ourselves in the new environment .As a result, we could neither study or gain
beautiful experiences as we have expected.

While studying abroad offers great opportunities for a better future, it also has
challenges that we must try our best to overcome what happened to make our dream
come true. Therefore, If you have a chance i think you should take that chance to
study abroad.
Finally, studying abroad can provide a good language environment to students and
make it easy to pick up a language. Foreign language is a tool employed to
communicate with each other. It can remove language barrier and make international
cooperation much easier.

Question 3
I strongly disagree that smoking can be allowed in public places. In my opinion, I
support that smoking should be restricted in public places. Smoking is not only
damage the environment but also health. In addition, smoking in the public places
such as restaurant, department store or scenery spots may leave a bad impression
for those who first visited that places.
First, smoking is harmful and also caused environment damage. Research shows
that heavy smokers are vulnerable to get heart and lung disease and smoke can
lead those problems extremely serious. Compared to those who dont smoke,
smokers have a shorter lifespan. Besides, the cigarette butts which left by smokers
may damage the environment or cause some accidents. For example, throwing
cigarettes butts in the forest may cause fire which leads economic decrease or
animal disappear.
Second, if visitors see people smoking in public places, how will they think about
that? This will leave a bad impression in that place. For example, if a person has

never been to Kuala Luampur, when he or she arrives here and sees people
smoking in the public area such as a tourist attraction, what will he or she think? He
or she might leave a bad impression on that place and might not want to go to that
place again. The bad experience comes to their minds when talking to that place.
However, it is inhuman to ban people from smoking. The best solution is to set some
places for people to smoke. Government should make some policies to regulate
where to smoke. Smoking shouldnt be allowed in public places for the sake of
damaging earth, causing physical disease and ruining peoples impression
It is well known and clinically proven that smoking is extremely hazardous to the
smoker and others who have been exposed to the fume over a period of time.
Economics is another reason to prevent smoking as well. In reality, a smoker has to
pay for the cigarettes he uses. Undeniable, it will be a huge amount of money during
his lifetime. Furthermore, governments will have to invest more money for health
care systems it trying to repair the damage caused by smoking. If we were to use
that money for other purposes such as protecting the environment or eliminating
poverty, everybody would be happy.
Smokers are bad examples to children. We all know that our behaviours are models
for them to ape. Obviously, if a child sees many grown-ups people smoking day by
day, he may think that smoking is a standard for adults. For example, when I was
young, every man around me smoked daily. I felt they are so manly and romantic.
Hence, I tried to be similar to them by smoking, too. Our children, especially
teenagers, will try smoking to if tobacco is one of normal parts of their life.
In conclusion, banning smoking in public places is a completely right decision. In
reality, the addicted person would like to smoke whenever and whatever they want.

However, problems related to health, economics and image shown to children are
sensible for banning it. I hope that smokers will accept this ban to THE benefit of
themselves and our community.

Question 4
Global Warming is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect
of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or
from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This is a
type of greenhouse effect.
The causes are many of which the main culprit is the increase in the greenhouse
gases that is produced by burning fossil fuel and deforestation, thus intensifying the
greenhouse effect leading to global warming. The four main contributors of the
greenhouse effect are, water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and ozone.
Mining for coal and oil releases methane in the atmosphere. More ever the leakage
from natural gas fields and landfills are additional source of methane. Excessive
cutting down of the trees is another factor causing global warming. When
deforestation happens the efficiency by which carbon dioxide is stored and oxygen

released by the green plants are decreased to a huge rate in turn causing increased
concentration of carbon dioxide that leads to increased greenhouse effect.
The nitrous oxide from fertilizers, gases used for refrigeration and industrial
processes are other factors that cannot be forgotten as the cause of Global
Warming.
Another source of methane is methane clathrate, a compound containing large
amounts of methane trapped in the crystal structure of ice. As methane escapes
from the Arctic seabed, the rate of global warming will increase significantly.
Ice caps and glaciers reflect sunlight, bouncing high temperature sun -rays back into
space away from the Earth. When these icecaps are removed the earth gets warmer
as the dark oceans absorb much thermal radiation from the sun.
Some regions may be wet with rain and some areas will suffer drought due to global
warming. The climatic changes happen due to global warming. Seasonal changes
are unpredictable unexpected thunderstorms might result as mentioned earlier.
The burning of wood (should be reduced to a greater extent) releases oxidizable
carbon to the atmosphere whose presence in greater amount causes the elevation of
temperature.
There is strong evidence that emissions of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were the
major cause of the recent abnormal warming. Like carbon CFC do not trap heat but
in the presence of UV rays the chlorine gets detached from CFC, drifts up into the
stratosphere and these unattached chlorines catalytically convert Ozone molecules
into Oxygen molecules depleting the ozone layer.

While governments must take prime responsibility for reducing climate change,
individuals too can play a part. Political leaders across the globe need to cooperate
so that research into renewable forms of energy such as wind and solar power is
properly funded and the use of coal and gas in power stations is phased out.
They must also of course ensure that regulations against logging are properly
enforced. Consumers of energy can help by insulating their homes properly and
using solar panels where possible so that less energy is required and wasted. These
actions should limit the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and so reduce the
greenhouse effect.
In conclusion, while global warming is a serious threat to humanity, there are a
number of steps that can be taken to reduce its effects.

Question 5
Mass communication is a process in which a person, group of people, or an organization sends a
message through a channel of communication to a large group of anonymous and
heterogeneous people and organizations. You can think of a large group of anonymous and
heterogeneous people as either the general public or a segment of the general public. Channels
of communication include broadcast television, radio, social media, and print. The sender of the
message is usually a professional communicator that often represents an organization. Mass
communication is an expensive process. Unlike interpersonal communication, feedback for mass
communication is usually slow and indirect.
