STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I deem it as an opportunity and privilege to let me say something about

myself by way of introduction. I am Mohammed Abu Haseeb Quraishi,
Graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Al-Habeeb Collage of
Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, Affiliated
to JNTUH. The sweeping changes in the Global Industrialization and Design
Engineering have made the role of mechanical engineer a really
indispensable one. It has been my deepest desire to be a part of this rapidly
burgeoning community.
Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live
forever. M.K. Gandhi
I being an Indian would proudly like to quote from Mr. M.K. Gandhi, the father
of our nation. I have always believed in the above adage, and realized early
in my life that industriousness and smart work are the only investments that
never fail. If I were to mention one quality in me that sets me apart, it is my
never-say-die spirit which has goaded me on and on.
At the age of seven, I was interested in pull back mechanism toy cars. I
was fascinated by this mechanism in which the car moved forward when
pulled backwards by some distance due to the recoiling of the spring. I used
to dismantle them carefully and tried to observe their mechanism. At the age
of 14 years, I dismantled gadgets like watches, walkmans, stereo and any
other object that I could lay my hands on. I was brought up in a well
educated family and my parents were very encouraging in whatever I was
interested. I was fortunate to do my schooling in Madina High School a
school famous for its quality education and discipline. It was during my
schooling that I developed my communication skills.
My interest in science further strengthened when I visited a science
exhibition in which I got the opportunity to see various mechanisms and
instruments. This brought out my innovative ideas and I devised many
devices like periscope, steam boat, etc. Since my school days, I was very
interested in mathematics and science. I always used to come out with
alternative solutions to the mathematics problems solved by my teacher. I
maintained a good rapport with my school teachers and made good friends. I
completed my schooling with outstanding results and secured an aggregate
of 80% in my high school.

I spent the next two years working with the same interest and
enthusiasm; I specialized in Mathematics, Physics and chemistry in my
eleventh and twelfth standards and I was again successful to achieve an
aggregate of 80%. The solid foundation, I received in my formative years of
schooling along with a mix of perseverance, intelligence and will to succeed
ensured my selection through the joint entrance examination. I stood among
the top candidates to get 100% scholarship into Al-Habeeb college of
Engineering and Technology into the Mechanical Engineering major.

WHY MECHANICAL ENGINEERING?

The unseen force transforming various raw materials into the complex
and intricate objects we see today is Mechanical Engineering. This ubiquity
and universal application of the aforesaid field in almost all the fields of
engineering fascinated me. It is after a good deal of self-evaluation that I
have decided to pursue graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering. It is my
quest to contribute my iota of creativity to this world of connectivity that
brings my application to your desk. I have tried my level best with all
sincerity to retrospect and introspect myself in the following paragraphs.
During my undergraduate study I had the opportunity to visit industries
like the Vizag Steel Plant, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, The Hindustan
Shipyard, Bharat Dynamics Limited and Central Power Research Institute,
where I could learn and understand the practical applications of Mechanical
Engineering. I was fascinated by the design and the complexity of various
mechanisms in these industries and was one of the catalysts for my decision
to pursue Graduate Study.
My undergraduate course has given me a comprehensive knowledge of
the basic areas in Mechanical engineering such as Mechanics of Solids,
Design of Machine Elements, Dynamics and Kinematics of Machines and
Finite Element Analysis etc interested me the most. These courses, versatile
in their subject matter developed in me an appreciation for a gamut of ideas
and the incorporation of the basic principles. A number of factors have to be
taken in to consideration in designing a machine component or a structure.
The complexity and the challenge involved in designing have always
fascinated me.
Mechanical Engineering is so vast that an undergraduate program
would not be sufficient to grasp the advanced technological concepts. With
the rapid technological growth, it has become necessary to delve more and
more into the subject and increase ones technical expertise to contribute

towards innovative research. So, I strongly feel that after an undergraduate

program it would be necessary to explore the highly specialized areas with
the basic concepts I have acquired in my undergraduate program. A
graduate study will no doubt strengthen my knowledge and will hone my
latent skills.
Having undergone a rigorous and challenging undergraduate program
with proper electives, I have cultivated an immense interest and a
fundamental background in the field of Mechanical Engineering. I have a
strong desire and ambition to reach the pinnacle in the field of Mechanical
Engineering. I have a good academic base to realize my goal. I am sure and
confident that I will achieve it, if given an opportunity. I am determined to put
in my best efforts and achieve my goals and will contribute in my own
humble way.

Co-Curricular Activities:
In the first year of undergraduate study, I was given privilege from
my college to participate in many Robotic events. A good, high speed and
reliable robot was the result of my teams efforts. I had won three
competitions using the same. I have also done an industry oriented mini
project at Renault Pvt. Ltd. Hyderabad. I underwent courses AutoCAD 2007,
Solid works, Ansys.
Since my schooling I was active in co curricular activities like science quiz,
debates and elocutions. I also participated many times in the science
exhibition in different schools. I continued my interest in Co Curricular
Activities in my Engineering study too. During my four years of engineering I
also presented many papers. I have also done a project on Fabrication of
Gearless Mechanism which could be a replacement for widely used bevel
gear and is also a major part of Big Ben clock tower in London.
I am to pursue my further studies in USA to expand my perception. I
can achieve these objectives only in the right environment, and in the
program offered for study in your University. I have chosen your institution
because of the distinguished faculty and excellent infrastructural facilities. I
believe that the program in your University will provide me an opportunity to
interact with the best minds in the world and enabling the further honing of
my skills acquired so far. I am fully aware of the commitment and dedication
required for research and believes that my aptitude and motivation will see
me through. I therefore look forward to join your esteemed University for
pursuing high studies leading to Masters Degree.

I want to end on a note that every institution will get a variety of

STUDENTS every year, but, I will try to improve myself to such an extent that
the University should feel that they have got an all-rounder and an ASSET for
the institution rather than from just a student. I am confident that I will arrive
with high level of intelligence and dedication. I also believe that I have better
chances of updating and scaling my knowledge in your University and all I
need is the opportunity. Hence I request the Admissions Cell to consider me
for an admission and grant me a good scholarship.
Thank you,
