I am writing to submit my application for an Academic Coach at any location within Montebello
Unified, Lynwood Unified, or El Monte City Elementary. It is with great pleasure to share my
expertise and knowledge with your company.
I have always looked forward to working with the elementary, and middle school age group.
These students are very impressionable, interested in learning, and open to new concepts. I also
feel it is at this stage in the student's life that a huge difference can be made in their future with
the proper motivation and tools.
I am very well qualified and would be an asset to the program through my years of experience
working as a tutor and teacher assistant. As a person coming from an underserved population, I
have experienced first-hand the lack of resources and tools necessary to succeed throughout my
education. Despite the adversities, I have managed to succeed throughout my education. With
every opportunity, I try to give back by helping students, and the community in also achieving
their goals and dreams.
I have tutored children of the elementary age through a non-profit organization, Reading
Partners. This program engaged the students in reading one-on-one with a tutor to improve their
reading fluency and comprehension. In addition, I have experience tutoring science, as I was a
Chemistry tutor in college for underrepresented students. Although the age level is different, I
believe the way the concepts are introduced have a huge impact on any student.
Furthermore, I am currently a teacher assistant at Soto Street Elementary, located in Boyle
Heights, CA. I work with elementary-age children, specifically a Kinder and a Fourth grade
class, where I intervene during their Universal Access Time to help a specific group of students
better understand their material. I also have computer skills that will be an asset when working
with the computer-aided curricula.
My greatest passion is helping others, and I have found that in many ways. I have an extensive
amount of volunteer experience in schools, hospitals, and nursing homes. Through these
experiences I have mastered the ability to be patient with various personalities from different
backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses and cultures. Through these experiences, I have gained
knowledge on how to work with not only people, but children, and playing a positive role in their
learning. I enjoy helping students build confidence in their ability to achieve, both academically
and socially.
