Establishing an online connection to SINAMICS G120 drives (as from V4)

V1.0, Entry ID: 1-1BZBXHE

1 Introduction
1.1 What is the special feature of SINAMICS G120 drives as from V4?

Introduction

1.1

What is the special feature of SINAMICS G120 drives

as from V4?
For all SINAMICS G120 CUs as from V4 (CU230P-2DP, CU240B-2DP, CU240E2DP, CU240E-2DP F) as well as for all converters/inverters of the G120C, ET200S
and ET200pro series, standardized PROFIdrive data records are used for
communication with SCOUT-PG/PC (alternatively, STARTER) via PROFIBUS DP
(or PROFINET). If a SINAMICS G120 is connected to an IO controller using
PROFIBUS DP and a PG with engineering software via Ethernet, then this IO
controller must have the function for data record routing from Ethernet to
PROFIBUS DP.
In this case, SINAMICS CUs must have a firmware version V4.3.2. Data record
routing is not supported for devices with older firmware versions.
For SINAMICS G120/G120D devices with a firmware version < V4, S7
communication is used to establish the connection to the PG/PC via PROFIBUS
DP (or PROFINET).
The current SIMATIC S7 CPUs have data record routing functions (exception
SIMATIC T-CPU). Data record routing is required for communication from
PROFINET, PROFIBUS and MPI networks to PROFIBUS DP.
On the other hand, SIMOTION controls only support the S7 routing function
(data record routing is not supported!). In this case, an appropriate data record
gateway must be used (see Chapter 2.2).

Note

A list of suitable SIMATIC-CPUs for data record routing is provided at the

following link:
http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/50037141

1.2

What is the difference between S7 routing and data

record routing?

S7 routing
Standard S7 routing is used to transfer data beyond a system's own network limits.
In this case, information can be sent from a transmitter (sender) to a receiver via
the various networks.
To do this, special device technology is required, which must provide this
functionality. The target station does not have to support the S7 routing function.

Note

A list showing the devices that support the S7 routing function is provided
at the following link:
http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/584459

1 Introduction
1.2 What is the difference between S7 routing and data record routing?
Data record routing
Data record routing represents an expansion of the "standard S7 routing", and is
used for drives, for example.
Data, sent using data record routing, in addition to the parameterization of the
communication devices involved, also includes device-specific information (e.g.
setpoints, limit values and similar). The field devices themselves do not have to
support data record routing, as these devices do not transfer the information
contained.

Note

The following link will tell you the preconditions that must be fulfilled for data
record routing:

2.1 SINAMICS G120 and teleservice

Overview

2.1

SINAMICS G120 and teleservice

2.1.1

Teleservice via a CPU

For teleservice via a CPU it is mandatory that this CPU supports the data record
routing function.

Note

A list of suitable SIMATIC-CPUs for data record routing is provided at the

following link:
http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/50037141

Communication between a teleservice adapter and CPU is realized via S7

communication; communication between CPU and SINAMICS G120 is realized
using standard data records.
Data record routing in a PROFIBUS network is supported
Fig. 2-1

Note

In this case, it must be observed that the teleservice adapter and the SINAMICS
G120 must be operated at different CPU interfaces!

2.1 SINAMICS G120 and teleservice
Data record routing in a PROFINET network is presently not supported
Fig. 2-2

2.1.2

Teleservice directly to the fieldbus

With this configuration, the teleservice adapter is connected directly to the fieldbus.
In this case, the teleservice adapter must support the data record routing
functionality and not the CPU.
Fig. 2-3

Note

From STEP7 V5.5 SP3, data record routing is possible via the Teleservice
Adapter IE Basic.
Teleservice Adapter II does not support data record routing!

2 Overview
2.2 SINAMICS G120 and SIMOTION

2.2

SINAMICS G120 and SIMOTION

SIMOTION control systems only support the S7 routing function
(data record routing is not supported!); as a consequence, access from a PG/PC
via the SIMOTION control to SINAMICS G120 connected on PROFIBUS is not
possible without first employing additional measures. In this case, a corresponding
gateway must be used, which assumes the function of the data record routing,
therefore allowing a SINAMICS G120 to be accessed from a PG/PC.

2.2.1

IE/PB PN IO link as data record gateway

The IE/PB PN IO Link forms, as autonomous component, the seamless
transition between Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS.
In addition to the PROFINET communication services, it also provides the following
functions:
S7 routing
S7 routing allows PG/PC communication across networks.
All S7 stations connected to PROFIBUS can be remotely programmed
from the PG connected to Industrial Ethernet. Data of S7 stations
connected to PROFIBUS can be accessed from operating and monitoring
stations (e.g. WinCC flexible RT) connected to Industrial Ethernet.
Fig. 2-4

Data record routing (PROFIBUS DP)

The IE/PB PN IO Link can also be used as gateway for data records,
which are to be sent to field devices (DP slaves). This means that
PGs/PCs, which are not connected to PROFIBUS, and which therefore
have no direct access to field devices, can send data records to field
devices via IE/PB PN IO Link. This means that PROFIBUS DP field
devices can be parameterized and diagnosed on a PC connected to
Industrial Ethernet via the IE/PB PN IO Link.

2.2.2

IBH link S7++ as data record gateway

The IBH Link S7++ from IBHsoftec (http://www.ibhsoftec.com/IBH-Link-S7-PP) can
be used, just like the IE/PB PN IO Link, as network transition (gateway)
between Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS DP.
Further, using IBH Link S7++, it is possible to parameterize PROFIBUS field
devices using acyclic services (DPV1). Different communication routes are
possible to do this:
S7ONLINE interface (via IBHNet driver)
Data record routing
When using data record routing it must be observed that IBH Link S7++ must be
configured using NetPro, i.e. it must be integrated and networked in the
corresponding STEP7 project.
Fig. 2-6

The IBH Link S7++ can also be used as gateway for data records, which are to
be sent to field devices (DP slaves). This means that PGs/PCs, which are not
connected to PROFIBUS, and which therefore have no direct access to field
devices, can send data records to field devices via IBH Link S7++.
