The Arctic- Impacts from climate change

The increase in sea levels
means more floods in
other countries. It also
affects animals that live
there. The graph below
shows the decease of ice

The arctic thaws in the summer and

freezes again in the winter, but the
problems are that the summers are
too hot and the winters arent cold
enough so the ice isnt freezing
enough. This leads to more melted
ice which results in sea level rising.

In the future, if this carries on,

the arctic animals will become
extinct. It could even lead to
no arctic. That would be
disastrous as there will be too
much water flowing to the
main countries flooding
essentials and crops making it
difficult to live.
Polar bear (arctic foxes)
smaller fish
plankton.
By 2050, the
polar bear
population
may
have
decreased as
much as 50%.

Scientific
research has
shown that
8% of ice in
the arctic has
disappeared
in the last 30
years.

The annual total

precipitation is to
increase by
roughly 20% by
the end of this
century, with
most of the

seals

larger fish

The floods
and natural disasters
will reach the UK and
will cause a lot of
damage. It will ruin
the entire country
making it hot and
wet.

The difference in weather will also

affect vegetation and many places will
have bad soil not allowing animals to
live and grow on them.

A main problem is polar bears. They live in

the arctic and spend most of their time on sea
ice hunting seals. In the summer months they
have to fast and scavenge for food on land.
But as the ice melts quicker and freezes for
shorter, they need more food as they go a
long way on ice to find seals, if they cant
find any, then their body slowly deteriorates
till the females cant reproduce so the polar
bear population will decrease.

Temperature
changes

The worlds forests will be affected too as

no sunlight will be reflected to the forests
which means more carbon will be left on
the earth because of the lack of trees.

Just to summarise, in the Arctic as you know the permafrost is melting, glaciers are
receding: so the results are less ice but more water. Climate change is a major and
growing challenge for the world to sort out. You may think it is important now but it will
be much more important for the future which will be the ones to end this. We need very
fast work to stop this and it is quite hard. It will affect the world and its ecosystems the
arctic needs its ice or animals will die. The world may have its own temperature changes

and cycles but we are speeding it up even quicker. The world cant carry on like this,
when will it end or how? But I am sure that we will find a way to adapt to this and pass
this worrying event.
