1. By reading about the life of the real Patch Adams, compare and contrast it with
the fictional/movie version.
Robin Willliams is a comedian in real life and in the fictional/movie. In the movie, he
became a doctor while in real life, hes an actor. Williams attended Claremont Men's College
and College of Marin before enrolling at the Juilliard School in New York City while in the
movie, he attended Medical College of Virginia. Williams also faced many circumstances in
life before he became a famous actor. In the movie, he was determined to be a doctor
because he enjoys helping people thats why he studied and help patients to improve the
quality of life. In real life and in the movie, Williams showcased his stellar comedic talents as
well as his ability to take on serious work.
2. What is the most significant contribution of Patch Adams based on the movie?
Treating patients with laughter and providing emotional and spiritual relief as well as
medicine and starting his own low-cost rural clinic called the Gesundheit Institute.
3. It is said that Laughter is the best medicine, how is it related with one of the
theme of the movie? Explain.
Adams way of getting to know his patient personally is making them laugh. He realized that
the conventional way of treating those injured, both physically and mentally, was not always
the best approach; humour was. Just to laugh, to relieve and forget about the pain for just a
few minutes, strengthened the patients.
4. What is the wish of the old patient in the latter part of the movie?
The old patients wish is to go in swimming pool with full of noodles.

6. Explain how Patch Adams had a change of heart and stopped his attempted
suicide.
Patch Adams voluntarily committed himself into a mental institution. Once there, he
finds that helping his fellow inmates there gives him a purpose in life. It was there that he
realized that many of the patients around him suffered from extreme loneliness. They didn't
have people in their lives who loved them. He made friends with the patients, and he soon
discovered that the key to human happiness is having loving and caring people in your life.
Thus inspired, he leaves the asylum and vows to become a doctor to help people
professionally.

7. Describe in detail the dream hospital of Patch Adam.


Adams dreamed of a 40-bed, full-service hospital where people are emotionally,
physically and spiritually healed through friendship, humour and holistic techniques.The
Gesundheit hospital would be a health care community based on friendship and mutual
interdependence, with a staff that lives in the facility with their families in a collective
atmosphere of happiness, silliness, love, creativity and cooperation. The atmosphere would
enhance healing and relieve suffering.
