Lesson Objectives
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
Identify a variety of ways that businesses advertise their products and services using information technology

Explain the elements of an effective advertising strategy

Construct a basic advertising strategy to promote a business product or service

This Weebly series can be completed at each


students own pace or can be dictated by the
teacher. Students with learning difficulties can
be sat with and monitored at their own pace.

LESSON DELIVERY (attach worksheets, examples, marking key, etc, as relevant)


Time

Motivation and Introduction:

1. Take the roll. Read out any messages/notifications.


2. Introduce the new topic of Advertising. Instruct students to log
onto the computer and type the Weebly site written on the board
into google search.

3. Introduction activity: Watch the YouTube ad for BEATS SOLO


HEADPHONES. Revise the elements of an advertising strategy.
Point out the key elements of the Beats advertising strategy.
4. Ask students the focus questions from the Weebly page and
discuss the use of celebrity and social media in advertisements.
Can students think of other ads that feature celebrities/famous
people.

5. Pick a student to read the next paragraphs about the different


types of social media.
6. Activity 1 using Padlet, present the students the product in the
image and get students to brainstorm hashtag ideas to promote
the product. Students to type their ideas on Padlet.
7. Read through the 5 principles of advertising, referring to each
image/gif on the Weebly page.
8. Have students look at each image and ask them whether they
are a good example of an ad that adheres to those advertising
principles.

9. Assessment Task instruct students to create a print ad that can


be used on social media e.g. Instagram and Facebook, using the
Canva app. Students will need to sign up to Canva to create
their own account.
10. When creating their ad, warn students about some designs on
Canva that require them to buy the design when publishing their
ad. Students to download the ad in a JPEG or PDF format and
save in the teachers Shared Drive folder.

11. Students to save all work following the Weebly instructions.
