CHAPTER 1

The topic in chapter 1 is about Introducing People. To introduce someone, we

must make a list of questions which we will ask to someone that we will introduce. To
make a good list, we can use one kind of prewriting like Taking Notes to gather
ideas. Then, in chapter 1 I also learn about how to make a good paraghraph. There
are some rules for writing paraghraps. And for writing practice, I have made a
paragraph with the title is My Classmate. Good writing is using correct grammar, so
at next page I have learned about what is a sentences and how to know it is a good
sentences or not. Every sentences must have at least one subject and one verb in
order to be a sentence, so there is a practice about finding subjects and verbs. Then
I practice about End-Of-Sentence Punctuation such as place a period, a question
mark or an exclamation point at the end of sentence. At next page, I have learned
about Capitalization. There are five rules of Capitalization. At next page, I also learn
about how to introducing my self in a paragraph. Then, at next part I learn about
Sentence Structure. There are some kinds of sentence in English such as simple
sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence, and compund complex
sentence. At next page, there is a subject about Connecting Words (using and, or)
who we call with Conjunctions. Then at last page of chapter 1 I have learned about
sentence combining as an exercise to improve sentence writing skills. And the final
product of sentence combining is a good paragraph.

CHAPTER 2
The topic in chapter 2 is about Writing Instructions. There is another way of
prewriting, it is brainstorming. In brainstorming, we list single words or phrases
vertically and dont take the time to write whole sentences. In that chapter, I have
learned to write clear instructions in a time order, we should plan what we are going
to write, who called outline. An outline helps we to organize our ideas and put them
in logical order. Then, at next page I learn about time order outline. That time, I
pratice how to combine all the subject from brainstorming to the list well. In order that
I can make a good outline. To combine it to be a paragraph, I also learn about time
order transition signals. They tell the reader what to do first, second, and so on. At
the next page, I learn about sentence structure like simple sentence, and here I learn
about compound sentence who has two sv combinations joined by a comma and a
cordinating conjunction. I also learn about coordinating conjunctions again such as
and, but, or so. There is a page to practice about writing compound sentences using
conjunction. And then, at next page I also learn about comma splices, a serious
sentence error that writers sometimes make. This happens most often when the two
sentences are related in meaning. To improve my skill about it, there is a sentence
combining practice. At next page, there are five additional rules of capitalization. And
also there is a subject about rules of using commas. Its very important to know
altough it sounds simple. And at the last, I have made a direction to my house by
using all of the materials of this chapter.

CHAPTER 3
The topic in chapter 3 is about Describing Things. I have learned how to write
a good descriptions with two keys. The first key is to use space order, and the
second key is to use specific details. In space order, I might describe something from
top to bottom or from left to right. As a practice there is space order outlining. I must
analyze the organization of the model paragraph on the page and fill the outline. The
second key is spesific details. Spesific means exact, precise. The more spesific you
can be, the better your reader can see what you are describing. There are section
about grammar and mechanics again, but its about adjectives and prepositions.
Adjectives describe nouns and pronouns, tell what things or people look like, what
kind they are, or how many of them there are. Prepositions are little words such as
of, to, from, in, at, after, during, until, and some of prepositions are two or three
words. Next, I have learned about preposisional phrase who made of combining
between preposition and a noun or noun phrase. Prepositional phrases answer the
question where, when, show possesion, and describe or identify someone or
something. As a practice, I have made a paragraoh about describing my room. And
then, I learn about prepositional phrases in space and time order. Prepositional
phrases of time and place can be in different places in a sentence, can be at the
beginning, middle, or end of a sentence. In this chapter, I must identifying and
punctuating prepositional phrases, identifying and moving prepositional phrases, and
put the periods, sommas, and capital letters. As usual, at the last I must combine
each part of sentence to be a good sentence.

CHAPTER IV
The topic in chapter IV is about Listing Characteristics. In first three units of
that book, I learned and practiced four different techniques for getting ideas :
notetaking, freewriting, brainstorming, and clustering. At next page, I learned how to
make an outline about something and then develop it to be a good paragraph ehich
has three main parts, there are topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a
concluding sentence. A topic sentence has two parts ; a topic and controlling idea.
There are some practice about identifying topic and controlling idea. A paragraph
must follow the rule of unity, unit means one, so the rule of unity means that all the
sentences are about one main idea. Another way is to say that all the supporting
sentence in paragraph must be relevant to main idea. If they are not, they are
irrelevant. Next, there is listing order paragraphs. A listing order paragraph divide
your topic into separate points. To separate it, we can use transition signals. Then at
next page I learned about the concluding sentence, conclusion signals, detailed
paragraph outline. In that unit, I began to make more detailed outlines. Then at part 2
I learned about simple and compound sentence again. There is also subject about
comma splice and combining. Next at part 3, I learned about adverbs. Adverbs
answer the questions how, when, where, and how often. There is a page at last this
chapter I have made two short paragraphs with adjectives, adverbs, and write a
listing order paragraphs about a person with a good organization, good sentence
structure and also good grammar and mechanics.

CHAPTER V
The topic in chapter V is about Stating Reasons and Using Examples. In that
chapter, I write another listing order paragraph and use reasons and specific
examples to prove my points. I have made an outline about A Boarding Student and
develop it to be a good paragraph. As the topic in this chapter, I might describe the
reason and give examples in my outline. At next page, there is subject about
transition signals with reasons. Because when you give reasons, you should
introduce each one with a transition signal like first, first of all, second, third, finally,
and so forth. There are two ways to complete the sentence by using transition
signals, first with a noun phrase, second with a sentence connected by that. There is
transition signals with examples too. Except for example, you can use for instance.
Both of them have exactly the same meaning and are used in exactly the same way.
Put at the beginning and put a comma after them. Such as different from for example
and for instance, such as is followed by a noun. It comes in the middle and does not
nedd a comma. At part 2, there is subject about complex sentence. Complex
sentence are consist of independent and dependent clause and related by
subordinating sonjunctions. We have summarized our last subject about kinds of
sentences ; simple, compound, and complex sentence. At next page, I learned about
fragments. Fragment is another kind of sentence error, it is not a whole sentence.
Why? Because they are dependent clause. A dependent clause cannot be a
sentence by it self. At part 3, there is a subject about grammar and mechanics. I
learned about four more rules in comma. And also there are two more rules of
capitalization. And at last, there are practice to make a personal letter by using good
rules and writing practice to make a paragraph by using reasons and examples.

CHAPTER VI
The topic in chapter VI is about Expressing Your Opinion. I learned to give my
opinions and give the facts from a text with the title is Boy Divorces Parents. At next
page there is a subject about facts and opinions. In this part, I might express an
opinion and then support that opinion with facts. Opinions are statements of
someoness belief. Facts are true statements that no one can disagree with. To
improve my skills, there is a text who contains with facts and opinions. I must
identifying it well. When you state an opinion, you should indicate that it is an opinion
by using a transition expression. And notice that they are followed by commas. At
next part, there is a subject about sentence structure and grammar. There is another
kind of dependent clause that begins with word such as who, which, and that ;
adjective clauses or modify nouns. Notice that the adjective clause comes directly
after the noun it describes. Next, there is a subject about punctuating adjective
clauses. There are some rules of using commas with adjective clauses. There are
some practice about last subject. At next page, I must read a text with the title is A
tragic mistake or murder?. And I must make 10 sentences by using who or that, or
which or that from the text. And also I must identifying 8 fragments from a text with
the title is Capital Punishment. At part 3, I learned about Mechanics. I must make a
business letter form. And as a pratice, I must write a business leteer by my self. At
part 4, I might expree my opinoin at that Mistake or Murdeer. I might express my
opinion at that and at last I must make an outline based on my paragraph.
