What is Backflow Protection?

Backflow protection is a process using Backflow prevention devices to prevent a foreign source to enter
the potable water supply. There are over 10,000 cases reported each year of contamination, most
reported are severe and even fatal. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Commission
on Environmental Quality (TECQ) has made it mandatory for all commercial, industrial, and residential
buildings to have backflow prevention devices installed to prevent this from happening. These Backflow
prevention devices can be tested; and are now required to be tested annually.

Your restaurant or building’s backflow assembly system(s) must be tested annually, and a report from a
licensed backflow assembly tester (BPAT) must be filed with the city your business resides in.
