Warm up:
* Name the colors and explain their meanings.
Activity 1, 2, and 3:
* Use simple descriptive language to make brief statements about and compare objects and possessions.
* Explain what he/she likes or dislikes about something.
* Get the idea of the content of a specific material specially if there is a visual aid.
* Tell what he/she wants in a shop and ask for the price.
Activity 4:
* Write a paragraph comparing prices

objects on the board and next to their names, write the materials they
are made off. T will name the objects and their materials one by one.
Repeat if necessary. Ask Ss to repeat as you name them. Use the

T set the scene saying that Bratt and Lisa are shopping. Ask the
focus questions. Write Ss responses on the board. Play Track 27
from CD 1 (Track 21 in 3rd edition)

Ask the focus questions again. (Check their answers) Repeat the
audio, ask Ss to pay attention to pronunciation and any new
words. Point out expressions like would you like to or which
one/ones do you like better, elicit or explain meaning.

Play the audio one more time and ask Ss to repeat after each

In pairs Ss practice reading, and act out the conversation trying to


copy the intonation of the audio.

T uses two pairs of similar objects to review one/ones, and then


focus Ss attention to conversation on page 19; T asks which
sweaters do Brett and Lisa prefer? (Anne and Sue in 3 rd edition)
Ask why? Allow Ss responses, then write the answers on the board
and underline like and better. Point out like and better means
preference, to prefer.

T holds up two similar objects and asks Ss which one do you


prefer? Elicit the response: I likebetter or I prefer. Repeat with
other pair of items.

T Ss to go to grammar focus box on page 20 and explain how to


compare adjectives with one syllable and two or more syllables. T
provides Ss with more examples.

T plays the audio track 29 from CD 1 (Track 22 in 3 rd edition) Ss

T holds up two similar items again and asks which one do you
prefer? Elicit responses using comparisons with adjectives.

In pairs Ss complete exercise A in page 20, then compare


responses; then complete exercise B using their own opinions.

T explains that costs of products in different countries are


different. T give an example a cup of coffee in US costs US$1.40
and here it only cost RD$35.00 pesos.
Ask Ss which cup of coffee is more expensive, Dominican or
American coffee?
T asks Ss to read the blue box under comparing prices in page 20.
What did they understand? What was the main idea?

Individually Ss complete the writing chart on page 20 and write a


paragraph using the blue box as a model. T asks two or three Ss
to read it aloud and give suggestions.
Ask Ss if they like shopping? How often do they do it? If they ever
buy things on Internet. T sets the scene explaining what is the
reading about, (Shopping, Internet, and websites)? Tell that some
are opinions and others are facts (explain) Ask Ss to scan the
reading on page 21 for the name of popular websites and ask if
they use any of them.
NOTE: READING IN 3RD EDITION IS DIFFERENT. (You might want Ss to pair
up using 4th edition)

Ask four Ss to read aloud each one of the paragraphs, the rest of
the class follow reading in silence. Do not correct while reading.
Answer any questions at the end. Review pronunciation and
vocabulary. Ask Ss what are the main ideas of each paragraph?
Which are facts? Which are opinions? Ask Ss to complete exercises
A and B.
