Demandandsupplyfunctionsareusedtodescribetheconsumerandmanufacturerbehaviorwith
respecttothepriceofaproductorserviceandthequantityofaproductorservice.Differenttextbooks
mayusedifferentletterstorepresentthefunctionsandvariables.Intheexamplebelow,wellwritethe
pricesasafunctionofthequantity.

Tosatisfyboththeconsumerandthemanufacturer,weneedtofindapriceandquantityoneachcurve
wherethepriceandquantityareexactlythesame.Atthisprice,thequantitydemandedbyconsumersis
thesameasthequantitysuppliedbythemanufacturer.Thispointiscalledtheequilibriumpoint.The
quantityattheequilibriumpointiscalledtheequilibriumquantity.Thepriceattheequilibriumpointis
calledtheequilibriumprice.
Itiseasytofindthispointonagraph.Wesimplyneedtofindthepointofintersectionofthedemand
