Each student will engage in an intense and focused analysis of their school or program
improvement plan, or will actually participate in facilitating the revision of the school
improvement plan, or will help create a non-existent or unknown school improvement plan. This
project will also prepare students to examine SIPs in preparation for applying to and interviewing
for administrative positions and help to make you a unique candidate in such applications and
interviews.
Written Report/Analysis
The reports analysis includes 4 sections
1) Introduction/School Profile section captures the readers interest and briefly presents
and discusses the demographic data, location, and culture of the school.
2) Data Analysis will discuss demographic data, student performance data, and data that
represents the non-academic barriers to learning such as attendance and discipline.
3) School Improvement Plan for Improvement of Instruction will also be analyzed in terms
of the Washington State Student and Success Principles (p. 21 in your handbook).
Ultimately, one must ask if this specific School Improvement Plan (SIP) will influence
professional practice to create a highly effective school with high levels of student
learning.
a. Is the data analysis that reveals the instructional problem of practice reflected
explicitly in the SIP?
b. Are the 7 Student and Success School Principles (p. 21) reflected in the SIP?
c. Are the strategies for action set up to be measured by student growth/learning
results and not simply by activity completion?
d. Does the SIP reflect teachers 3.1 and 6.1 growth goals and principals 3.5 AWSP
Framework Distinguished Leadership Criteria?
4) Appendix and Selected References (supporting materials as appropriate).
Class Presentation
You will not present the written report but will share with us what do you know now as result
of analyzing/revising a school improvement plan that you did not know before? What are
some new significant learnings you will take with you into your administrative position? You
will share SIP content as it relates to helping us know about your learning of the above
questions.
