ADAMSON UNIVERSITY

80th Foundation Day

FEBRUARY 6, 2012
INTRODUCTION:
Good morning Brothers and Sisters! Welcome to the Jubilee Thanksgiving
Mass. This year, 80 years ago, Adamson University emerged as a Catholic
Vincentian University from its humble beginnings as a School of Industrial
Chemistry. Like a Phoenix rising from the havoc, anguish and war, Adamson
University has become a home to thousands of young men and women committed
and dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and a professional career.
This is a home we can truly call our own. She is our Alma Mater placed
under Gods care, Marys mantle of love and protection and St. Vincents
patronage. As we celebrate this year of the Lords favor, we look forward to
homecoming of all her sons and daughters.
Our university is a house built and blessed by the Lord, throughout the
years. We gather today to offer our praise and thanksgiving to God for all the
manifold blessings He has bestowed upon our beloved University. At the same
time, we ask our Lord that this our dear Alma Mater will continue with her
mission in educating the children of the working class and in uplifting the lives of
the marginalized.
As one big happy Family, we then join our hands together -- Administrators,
Faculty, Alumni, Staff, Students and Guests, in offering this Eucharistic
Celebration. Let us also ask the Lord to continue blessing us and guiding us in
pursuing and upholding our UNIVERSITYS VISION AND MISSION and in
Keeping the Legacy of Hope and Service Alive.
Brothers and Sisters let us all welcome our Mass Presider, His Excellency,
Bp. Teodoro Bacani Jr., and our Vincentian Fathers as we join in the singing of
the Opening Hymn:
(Please stand)

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING
Kgs 8:1-7, 9-13
A reading from the book of Kings
The elders of Israel and all the leaders of the tribes, the princes in the
ancestral houses of the children of Israel, came to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to
bring up the ark of the Lord's covenant from the City of David, which is Zion.
All the people of Israel assembled before King Solomon during the festival in the
month of Ethanim. When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the
ark; they carried the ark of the Lord and the meeting tent with all the sacred vessels
that were in the tent.
King Solomon and the entire community of Israel present for the occasion
sacrificed before the ark sheep and oxen too many to number or count. The priests
brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place beneath the wings of the
cherubim in the sanctuary, the holy of holies of the temple. The cherubim had their
wings spread out over the place of the ark, sheltering the ark and its poles from
above. There was nothing in the ark but the two stone tablets which Moses had put
there at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel at their
departure from the land of Egypt.
When the priests left the holy place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord
so that the priests could no longer minister because of the cloud, since the Lord's
glory had filled the temple of the Lord. Then Solomon said, "The Lord intends to
dwell in the dark cloud; I have truly built you a princely house, a dwelling where
you may abide forever."
This is the Word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: (TO BE SUNG)

Response:
All the ends of the earth, all you creatures of the sea, lift up your eyes to the
wonders of the Lord. For the Lord of the earth, the master of the sea has come with
justice for the world.
1. Break into song at the deeds of the Lord, the wonders He has done in
every age. (Resp.)
2. Heaven and earth shall rejoice in His might, every heart, every nation call
Him Lord. (Resp.)
3. The Lord has made His salvation known, faithful to His promises of old.
Let the ends of the earth, let the sea and all it holds, make music before
our King. (Resp.)
SECOND READING

(1 Cor 1, 3-9)

A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians

Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
I continually thank my God for you because of the favor he has bestowed on
you in Christ Jesus, in whom you have been richly endowed with every gift of
speech and knowledge. Likewise, the witness I bore to Christ has been so
confirmed among you that you lack no spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation
of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will strengthen you to the end, so that you will be
blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus [Christ]. God is faithful, and it was he who
called you to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
This is the Word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God

ALLELUIA

GOSPEL

Mk 6:53-56
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea, Jesus and his disciples
came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there. As they were leaving the boat, people
immediately recognized him. They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. Whatever
villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as
touched it were healed.
This is the gospel of the Lord.
ALL:

Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

CELEBRANT:

God our Father is the source of all blessings. As we raise our

minds and hearts in gratitude for his goodness, we also open
our hearts to ask Him for our needs and those of the world.
Let our response be:

GOD, SOURCE OF ALL GOOD, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

1. That our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI and all our pastors may courageously
teach the truth of Christ and keep the Lords flock safe within the pasture of
grace, we pray to the Lord: (R) God, source of all good, hear our prayer.

excellence in their studies and character building, with our faculty, staff and
administrators journeying with them, we pray to the Lord: (R) God, source of
all good, hear our prayer.
3. That our faculty, staff and administrators may use their talents to develop a truly
authentic Vincentian culture and spirituality so as to make it more reflective of
the nobility of their educative vocation, we pray to the Lord: (R) God, source
of all good, hear our prayer.
4. That the poor, the oppressed and all those who are suffering from any form of
affliction may receive consolation and assistance, and never lose hope in the
goodness of God, we pray to the Lord: (R) God, source of all good, hear our
prayer.
5. That all our departed Alumni, Administrators, Faculty, Employees and Students
who have gone to their rest may enjoy the presence of God in the heavenly
Jerusalem, we pray to the Lord: (R) God, source of all good, hear our prayer.
Let us pray in silence for our own personal intentions . . .

Father,
it is our duty and salvation
always and everywhere to give you thanks
through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
He is the Word
through whom you made the universe,
the Savior you sent to redeem us.
By the power of the Holy Spirit,
he took flesh and was born of the Virgin Mary.
For our sake he opened his arms on the cross;
he put an end to death and revealed the resurrection.
9

In this he fulfilled your will

and won for you a holy people.
And so we join the angels and saints
in proclaiming your glory
in their unending hymn of praise.
