mothers 50th birthday. We expected to have a great time at your

wait for about half an hour before we could order any food. The
waiter spoke to us rudely whilst taking the orders. In fact, he

Heclaimedthattherestaurantdoesnotservesuchadrink.Foryour
information, my mother has diabetes and is trying to avoid taking
sugaryfoodanddrinks.
3. The poorly cooked food was also unsatisfactory. We were

surprised to find out that the roast chicken and fish that we had

sour and the fried prawn was overcooked. We made a complaint

6. Another problem that spoiled our evening was the noisy

surroundings, especially the yelling of waiters and waitresses

calling names and taking orders from the customers. Besides this,

this unsatisfactory situation. What more disappointing were the
defective fans and airconditioners? The weather was very humid
andtherewerealotofpeopleintherestaurant.Therearealsoold

7. Hereby, I would like to make suggestions to help you solve
theseproblems.Firstofall,Isuggestthatyoulookatyourrestaurant
and make sure no more cats and other stray animals are on your
premise. You should also train your waiters and cooks to provide

good service and food to customers. It would be better to use a


calculatortoavoidmistakesintotallingthebill.Youneedtorepairthe
defective fans and airconditioners immediately. Last but not least,
cleanliness should be maintained in all parts of your restaurant. I
hope that you will look into these complaints and take immediate
actions. It is very important to remember that The Better The

The phenomenon of students under pressure is evident from the


behaviour of those students affected. I am a student and I know Introduction

DearRosman,

Howhaveyoubeendoinglately?Ihopealliswellwithyou.Asforme,itsbeenavery
busy week especially with the exam preparation and other things. Recently, I found out that
many students in my school were not interested in eating at the school canteen. Thus, I
conducted a survey among the students for the reasons why they were not interested in the
school canteen. Basically, from the findings, the students named three main factors namely
thecanteenfacilities,foodandworkerswhichhadcausedtheproblem.(Thesisstatement)

Firstly,thecanteenfacilitieswerenotimpressive(Topicsentence).Thecanteenlacked
tables and chairs (P1) resulting in an uncomfortable environment and a race among the
students to get the tables and chairs. This was not safe especially to the juniors who had to
makewayfortheirseniors.Apartfromthat,therewasinsufficientcutlery(P2)aswellasdirty
andoilyfloorandtables(P3)thatreallyturnedofftheirappetite.Whentherewasnotenough
spoons and forks, students tended to eat with their bare hands. It caused great trouble since
there was only one tap available for washing hands. Again, they had to push one another or
queueforquitesometimetowashtheirhands.Itwasfarfromconvenient.Then,thedirtyfloor
andtablesinvitedfliesandants,thusmakingtheplaceunhygienicandsmelly.Thiswasanother
mainreasonwhystudentslosttheirinterestinthecanteen.

Anotherfactor/secondlywasthecanteenfood(Topicsentence).Thefoodservedlacked
variety (P4) as every day, the same menu was served. To make things worse, there were
normally only three choices of meal to choose from. Commonly, the food was typical. The
studentswereboredtoeattypicalmenueverydayastheywantedtotrysomethingnewand
refreshing. The students wanted mouthwatering and appetizing food that could satisfy their
appetite. The food was also expensive (P5) and not tasty (P6) at all. This made it not worth
consuming food at the canteen. That was why more and more students shied away from the
premisesincethefoodcostanarmandaleg.Someofthestudentscouldnotaffordtobuythe
food.
Finally,anotherimportantfactorwasthecanteenworkers(Topicsentence).Theworkers
were unfriendly and rude (P7) to the students. They did not attend to the customers as they
were busy chitchatting among themselves at peak hours. Some were so immersed in their
phoneconversationtopayattentiontothestudents.Theyalsousedharshwordsandclaimed

that students did not pay for the food taken. Worse, these workers were slow and
inefficient.(P8)
Here, there were some suggestions for improvement. First and foremost, the school
shouldbuymorecanteenfacilities(P9)sothatabettereatingenvironmentcouldbecreated.
Next, the principal should advise or warn the canteen workers who were rude and behaved
badly to students (P10). If no action was taken, the school administration should change the
canteen operator (P11) after the contract expired. Other than that, the school should have a
canteencommitteetocheckonthecanteenregularly(P12)andthestudentscouldalsorate
thecanteenondailybasisandgivefeedback(P13)tothecommitteetoprovidebetterservice
forthebenefitofallstaffandstudents.
