Dear Friend:

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding school enrollment. We feel there is no
greater investment than in a child’s training for a productive, righteous lifestyle. At
Hampden DuBose Academy we join with parents in their commitment to educate their
children in a manner that builds both Christian character and sound scholarship.

Nestled among sprawling woods in northwest Zellwood, the campus draws from
surrounding communities diverse in interests. Protected from metropolitan busyness and
traffic sounds, children find a haven of peace for romping among trees, chasing balls,
and playing tag. The only noise is that of birds singing, of squirrels chattering, of
children laughing, and of youth chatting. Within the walls of the Spanish style buildings,
all are challenged to master the basic skills for successful and productive lives. From
the kindergarten children practicing phonics sounds and blends to the high school
students reasoning through profound ideas, everyone is receiving “all that series of
instruction and discipline which is intended to enlighten the understanding, correct the
temper, and form the manners and habits…[to] fit them for usefulness in their future
stations” (Webster’s 1828 Dictionary).

We invite you to read through the enclosed materials, visit the campus, and talk with our
staff as you consider the important decision of where and how your child will be trained.
If you need additional information or assistance with the application process, please call
the school office at 407-880-4321.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Jackson
School Administrator
Hampden DuBose Academy and Legacy High School

Hampden DuBose Academy and Legacy High School is the result of a God-given
vision, for its principles and standards are those of the ―pattern shewed in the
mount‖ to Dr. and Mrs. Pierre W. DuBose. Founded on divine vision, it is carried
on with fresh vision from the Lord day by day—a near vision of the needs of
each individual student—a far vision of a life controlled by Christ whether it be in
teaching or preaching, business, law, medicine, etc.

As Paul wrote, ―I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,‖ so Dr. and Mrs.
DuBose sought to carry out the vision God had given them. After much prayer
and searching of Scripture, together with reading the lives and words of others
who had stepped out on the promises of God and found them true, they
established Hampden DuBose Academy. The new school was named in honor of
Dr. DuBose father, Dr. Hampden Coit DuBose, a pioneer missionary to China,
whose biography is written in a book, For the Glory of God. The purpose then,
as now, was not simply to give the very best primary and secondary education
possible, but to show the faithfulness of God in meeting every need of each life.

From 1934 until 1980 Hampden DuBose Academy was a Christian boarding
school with students from around the world—children of missionaries, Christian
leaders, and other Christian parents who wished a Christ-centered education for
their children. The Academy was never closed nor its principles changed, but in
1980 the boarding school became a Christian day school with kindergarten
through eighth grade. Soon a pre-kindergarten was formed, and in 1996 a high
school was added. Named Legacy, it related the foundation principles of the
high school boarding school to the day school. The year 2000 marked the first
graduating class of the day school.

Education assumes its proper perspective when Proverbs 1:7 is heeded, ―the fear
of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.‖ The vision producing keen, sharp
instruments for the Lord motivates the scholastic training at the Academy, and
the work in the classroom assumes new meaning when it is based upon
principles of the Word of God.

The ultimate purpose of Hampden DuBose Academy from its inception in 1934 to
the current year is given in the words inscribed on its seal: ―Mihi vivere est
Christus–For to me to live is Christ.‖ This is the only reason for the existence of
the school and the desire of each of its leaders, its board, faculty and staff, and
their prayer for every student who attends. Founded on the Word of God,
Hampden DuBose Academy and Legacy High School seeks always to honor the
Lord Jesus Christ, ―Holding forth the Word of life…‖ Philippians 2:16.
Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God.
Therefore, it is our sole norm of faith and practice.

We believe that God is spirit, infinite, personal, eternal, and unchangeable in His
being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, grace, goodness, and truth.

We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin,
lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins.

We believe Jesus was physically resurrected to purchase a place in Heaven for

us which He offers as a free gift, providing the only way of salvation for all men.

We believe in the Trinity consisting of three persons—Father, Son, and Holy

Spirit—in one God.

We believe that God created man in His own image and in a state of innocence,
but that through temptation man willfully transgressed. As a result, all human
beings are born with a sinful nature and the wages for this sin is death.

We believe in the church, the body of Christ, whose mission is to preach the
gospel to all the world.

We believe that a true believer is secure in Christ forever and is called to live a
holy life.

We believe that the ordinances of the church are important and vary from one
denomination to another. We respect the right of personal differences in
observation.

We believe in the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that those who are believers shall be forever in the presence of God
and those who have rejected Christ will be separated from God forever.

In addition to these important beliefs, we believe that God has given the parents
and the home the responsibility to bring up their children in the nurture and
admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4; Proverbs 22:6). We believe that a
consistent and whole education will occur when home, church, and school work
closely together and are in agreement on the basic concepts of life.
Christian Philosophy of Education

The purpose of Hampden DuBose Academy/Legacy High School is

to train and develop young people in the ways and knowledge of the
Lord Jesus Christ, to have a personal relationship with Him as Savior
and to have Him abide in them as their living Lord.

H.D.A./L.H.S. recognizes Jesus Christ as its foundation for being.

Jesus Christ is the source of all truth and one must know Christ
before knowing truth. The Bible is man’s source for discovering truth
as it is the revelation of God to man. From Scripture we obtain
knowledge about children and the teachers obtain direction,
discernment and insight into instruction with God’s perspective.

H.D.A./L.H.S. is committed to the pursuit of academic excellence and

is designed to promote the development of knowledge, wisdom,
understanding and clear Biblical thinking.

H.D.A./L.H.S. recognizes and stresses the importance of a strong

emphasis on the basics in math and language arts. A thorough
comprehension and command of all the fundamental processes used
in communication through reading, writing, speaking, listening and
mathematics are stressed.

Athletic and social programs are a means to develop character and

God-given talents. Regular physical education classes provide for
the development and maintenance of physical fitness. Musical and
social programs provide for development in the arts.

H.D.A./L.H.S. views parent involvement as a crucial part of the

educational process. Positive relationships between home and
school develop a team approach to educating children, which is
healthy and fruitful. In partnership, parents and school counsel,
guide, and motivate students as they grow. Parents are expected to
be active participants in the education of their children. God made
them responsible for this important function.
