Why blame the user if you can blame something nonliving?

*sarcasm
The Philippine Islands, amidst its well-developed state of
instability and deprogression, has kept a soldier hidden within its not
so secret barracks; Lt. Drug Abuse.
Today, (fortunately?) news about drug trafficking in the Philippine
and its use, abuse and etc. have been in a declining rate since 2***.
Although, even if its (drug trafficking) media presence seems to be
dwindling like Pnoys poll asia ratings since 2011, the numbers dont
lie: its estimated that there are almost 1.7 million (or even more than)
drug users in the Philippines, and the mean age is 28 years old.
This statistical data is according to the Dangerous Drugs Board in
the Philippines. Also, shabu/methamphetamine hydrochloride which
was supposedly identified as the poor mans cocaine increased its
average street price to Php 15,000-17,000 depending on the quantity
of the said drug and the demographic location of the market. This said
increase was said to be the result of the governments success in
dismantling clandestine laboratories nationwide. But, there will always
be the other end of the string. Due to this, methamphetamine use is
now more wanted than ever, and more and more illegal drug users are
finding new ways to acquire the said golden powder. Yet amidst all
of these, it seems that the society, particularly the government, most
often use their blind spot when investigating these types of heinous
crimes. It almost seems like that the government has yet to uncover
something within their grasp, or maybe even, hid something within
their clasp.
The big mystery is, has this drug problem become too macro
scale already that its even bigger than the law enforcing entities of the
Philippine society? Or have the illegal drug users/abusers become too
smart for the Filipino anti-drug squad to catch?
On April 2015, Mary Jane Fiesta Velosos name has flooded the
small streets of social media sites and television stations with neverending news reports with repeating words; DRUG-TRAFFICKING,
EXECUTION, FIRING SQUAD, SMUGGLING, FILIPINA. These words
especially the last one was almost gut-wrenching. It was hard to hear
the said statements over and over and over again, especially if I was a
relative of Mary Jane, what would I feel I were her parents? But the
thing is, people only talk about the shallow water shells found in the
seashore, and not about the mysterious deep blue ocean way beyond
the stretch of human sight, (see how I transitioned from a serious tone
to a mildly poetic perspective?)

It is because, people only react to what is shown to them,

without even minding the inbetween perspectives their point of
objectivity may have experienced/may have been experiencing.
People had reacted that he said punishment was immoral and
inhumane, and yes, I agree to that for we all have the right to live life
with liberty, but we are actually targeting a wrong dartboard here. And
yes, before I go on with my rants, we also should consider about the
different laws and regulation each sovereign country can administer to
its citizens especially to its criminals, and yes unfortunately, death
penalty was in their constitution.
Now back to my topic, the main problem here is that Mary Jane
Veloso was caught within the bounds of another country. And she had
to experience all that due to the illegal recruiters demon spawned
intentions. She was frail and innocent, yet she was forced to suffer
extreme anxiety. She even experienced a life and death situation,
literally! Though, all of this wouldve been prevented if the illegal
recruiters didnt exist in the first place or were already caught by the
Filipino police officers. So what does this say about the Philippines
regulation on illegal drug use?
I realized that people are always trying to fix broken things with
money. This is the same as fixing the problem of drug abuse here in
the Philippines. This idiosyncratic agenda has plagued the country for
decades, but yet, it still rampant and widespread today. Generation by
generation, administration by administration, it seems that every
effort that the government tries to implement to eradicate the drug
problem in the Philippines, it just cant be controlled.
Cue what doesnt kill me makes me stronger image
As a matter of fact, every single time that this drug issue is
brought up or talked about with complementary side-jokes and
sarcasm, Its just hard for me to crack up a smile/laugh. But, wait, it
doesnt mean that I use illegal drugs or anything, its just, it seems too
personal, the idea of a person getting imprisoned forever due to a
single pill. They seem to think that taking this magical powder full of
surreptitious ideas of euphoria would free them from the clutches of
sadness in the world, yet they are only letting themselves get eaten by
a bigger monster other than melancholy, addiction.
Back to the aforementioned question about the Philippine
government, Yes, I know that the government is the overseer of the
whole status of the Philippines, and yes I know that theyve already
implemented/enacted laws that prohibit illegal drug use, and yada
yada yada, but is it working? Maybe a little bit, but the thing is, drug

companies, drug lords, and (insert Asian race here) triads, are existent
and flourishing due to the ineffectivity of the said regulations. Drug
prohibition was just a gateway for illegal drugs itself to be considered a
rarity, thus more and more people are thirsty for it. This is where
human nature kicks in, wherein if a person is hindered to do
something, he/she will always find another way to do it. Even the
United Nations stated that, The War on Drugs is a total failure, this is
because of technology, and addiction itself.
For me, I think it is very selfish for people to take the path to
drug addiction, and it is more selfish of the government to be apathetic
to the said problem. But, I really do hope that the Philippines would
really find a resolution to eradicate this alarming issue, and I hope that
once they do find it, it wont be too late.

IDU DRUG USE!

hese are some of the commonly abused drugs in the Philippines. Recently, the drug problem
is quite alarming. The increasing number of arrested drug traffickers, seizures of big volumes
of dangerous drugs, controlled precursors and essential chemicals and dismantling of
clandestine laboratories since the conception of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency
show the extent and impact of the drug abuse and drug trade problem in the Philippines

Drug addiction is a problem that has been increasing immensely

among our society today. Drug addictions can only hinder or restrain us
from accomplishing goals or dreams in life. People sometimes feel they are
too bright, too powerful, too much in control to become addictive. Addiction
can trap anyone. It can lead to harming ones body, causing problems in
family structure, and contribute to the delinquency in society. The sooner
people seek help for drug addiction problems, the more chances they have
of gaining control of their life once again. However, abstinence is the safest
way to live a longer and healthier life.
We are greatly influenced by the people around us. Today one of the
number one reasons of teenage drug usage is peer pressure. Peer
pressure represents social influences that affect us. It can have a positive
or a negative effect, depending on what path one follows. There is direct
and indirect pressure that might influence a persons decision in using
drugs. Direct pressure might be when a person is offered to try drugs.
Indirect pressure might be when a person is around people using drugs
and sees that there is nothing wrong with using drugs. Adolescents who
use drugs seek out peers who also use and, in turn, are influenced by
those peers (Berndt, 1992). A person might also try drugs just to fit in a
social group, even if the person had no intentions of using drugs.
Adolescents can try out different roles and observe the reactions of their
friends to their behavior and their appearance (Berndt, 1992). One might
do it just to be considered cool by the group.
There are also other reasons why people might turn to using drugs.
Emotional distress, such as personal or family problems, having low selfesteem, like loosing a close one, loosing a job, or having no friends, and

environmental stress are all possible factors to causing one to use drugs.
Drugs have very harmful effects on th...
