SOP for Class Representative position for Section-B, PGP 2014-16
I understand the magnitude of responsibilities entrusted upon a class representative. It is a
single point of contact between the administration, faculty and the class. In the past two
weeks, through various interactions with the students of my class as well as of the senior
batch, I have got a fair idea about the roles and responsibilities of a class representative.
Given an opportunity to serve as the class representative Ill be focusing upon the following
areas:
Firstly I would like to ensure effective communication from both the ends (viz. teacher and
student) and thereby facilitate as the mediator for the flow of information. The scheduling of
tutorials and additional sessions through the Student Representatives in an efficient manner
is another item which is on priority. An initiative that I would like to take in this matter is to
gauge the level of understanding of the students in a particular course and to communicate
the feedback to the faculty or tutor.
As per a popular saying, All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Hence my aim will
be to ensure a proper work life balance of my classmates. Considering the hectic schedule
the students have in IIM B, there should be something which can help them relax and get
rejuvenated. This can be achieved through various extra-curricular events that will be
organized from time to time. I will assist my classmates and encourage them in any possible
way to maximize their participation in different events hosted by different clubs and
councils.
I believe that a sense of bonding among students is very essential to carry out a healthy life
in this reputed institution. Hence I would like to build this through various fun activities,
get-togethers (including birthday parties) and outdoor events whenever the class has some
free time. I propose to build a common fund of the class towards the same and ensure
smooth organization and execution of these events.
There are several points, which strengthen my candidature. In the two weeks that we all
have been in this campus, Ive been actively involved in all the activities taking place inside
the class and in several instance have ensured proper flow of information between the class
and the faculty members. I encouraged people to participate and cheer for the section in all
sporting events during the Icebreaker Tournament. I was able to identify the potential in
people who initially felt reluctant to participate in any sporting event. Some of them really
performed well and won in certain events. This, in my opinion, shows my ability to motivate
my fellow classmates and achieve great results.
During my under-graduation, I was elected as the class representative and my performance
in this regard can be gauged from the fact that I was elected for this position for 4
consecutive years. I also acted as the joint convener in my University cultural fest and have
represented my department as placement representative too. During my tenure of service to
Tata Steel Ltd, I played an active role in organizing all the cultural and social events in the
division.
I clearly understand that the position of class representative demands lots of hard work and
responsibility. There are many more things that a CR can do apart from what I have
mentioned above. Hence, I will keep myself open to suggestions and keep looking for
opportunities that can benefit my class and the entire IIM Bangalore community.
