Workshop Summary: BusinessObjects XI R2

Administration and Security
The following list summarizes all activities you will complete related to BusinessObjects XI R2
administration and security.
1. Create a blank SQL Server database to host the BusinessObjects XI Release 2 Enterprise
system using the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
2. Create a System DSN to the blank SQL Server database (created in the step before) using
the ODBC Administrator.
3. Create a new BusinessObjects XI Release 2 system using the CCM (utilize the database
created in the previous steps). Previously this was done in Supervisor.
4. Add a new license key and enable all BusinessObjects XI Release 2 servers.
5. Create two new groups using the CMC. Previously this was done in Supervisor.
6. Create three new users (fin1, sal1, comp1) using the CMC. Supervisor did this before.
7. Assign newly created users to appropriate groups using the CMC (fin1 - Finance, sal1 - Sales,
comp1 - Finance and Sales). Previously this was done in Supervisor.
8. Set users' access to different applications using the CMC (members of the Finance group can
access Universe Designer and Desktop Intelligence, members of the Sales group can access
the Desktop Intelligence but not the Universe Designer applications). Previously this was
achieved using Supervisor and Profiles.
9. Test access to different applications based on each user's access setup. This is the
equivalent of Profile.
10. Create a new folder (Finance Folder, Sales Folder, Company Folder) using the CMC. This
was a document domain that involved creating a blank SQL Server database to host a
BusinessObjects 6.5 document domain using SQL Server Enterprise Manager and Supervisor
to map a Document Domain to the newly created database.
11. Create new universe using the Universe Designer (similar to BusinessObjects 6.5).
12. Create a new document(s) based on the published universe (from above) using the Desktop
Intelligence (Full Client). This is the same as in BusinessObjects 6.5.
13. Schedule a document.
14. Set different Application Rights (for example, Print ability) for different groups on Desktop
Intelligence (Full Client) using the CMC (fin1 can see the Print button, sal1 cannot, comp1
cannot). Supervisor did this before.
15. Test the Application Rights using the Desktop Intelligence (Full Client) for all three users (fin1
- OK, sal1 - NO, comp1 - NO).
16. Set the Document Access Rights to folders using the CMC. The Sales group should be able
to see the Sales Folder but not the Finance folder. The Finance group should be able to see
the Finance Folder but not the Sales Folder. Both groups should be able to see the Company
Folder and its contents. Previously this was done in Supervisor.
17. Test the Document Access Rights (and folder rights) using InfoView for all three users.
18. Set the Control Rights restrictions (for example, limit the number of records a group can see)
using the Universe Designer (Finance group - 20, Sales group - 10). Previously this was done
in Supervisor.
19. Test Control Rights restrictions using the Desktop Intelligence for all three users (fin1 - 20,
sal1 - 10, comp1 - 20). The Finance group has a higher priority than the Sales group.
20. Set Column Level Security on a universe (otherwise known as Object Rights) using the
Universe Designer. The Finance group cannot see the Phone Number column and the Sales
group cannot see the Address column. Previously this was done in Supervisor.
21. Test Column Level Security restrictions using the Universe Designer for all three users (fin1
cannot see the Address column, sal1 cannot see the Phone Number column, comp1 cannot
see the Address or Phone Number columns).

22. Set Row Level Security restrictions (otherwise known as Universe Overloads or Restriction
Sets) using Universe Designer. The Finance group can see the France records and the Sales
group can see the US records. Previously this was done in Supervisor.
23. Test Row Level Security restrictions using the Desktop Intelligence for all three users (fin1 France, sal1 - US, comp1 - France and US = Null).
