God Speaks through Prophets

Sharing Time idea for Week 4

from http://littleldsideas.blogspot.com

What you will need for this Sharing Time:

-Scripture References-examples below
-Picture of Heavenly Father or a piece of paper with ‘Heavenly Father’ typed/written
-Pictures of prophets or piecs of papers with different prophets names.
-Cut-out people, look on www.mormonshare.com, they have really cute little girls and boy that you can print
out and cut.
-Council from Latter-day prophets written/typed on pieces of paper.
-Paper and Pen or a Dry erase board
-Play-doh or molding clay
Begin your sharing time by choosing a child to come with you out into the hall.
Out in the Hall: Tell the child that you have a message for all the primary children. Tell him/her that you need
him/her to go back into the primary room and tell the message to all of the children. The message could be:
Everyone needs to stand up and close your eyes, Stand up and sing ‘Follow the Prophet’, Everyone go stand at
the back of the room, etc. After they have received the message, you will go back into the primary room. Ask
the children if they got your message? Did everyone listen?
Explain to the children that you needed to tell them something, but because you weren’t able to, you had to have
someone else give them the message.
Our Heavenly Father does this too. He cannot be here to give us important messages, or to tell us the things He
wants us to do. So, who does Heavenly Father ask to give us His messages? (Prophets)
Have this diagram posted on a bulletin board/chalkboard. Show the diagram and explain to the children that the
Prophet speaks for Heavenly Father. You could say something like this (it came from the Friend magazine.)
“Heavenly Father has chosen certain men to speak for Him. These men are called prophets. When a prophet
speaks for God, it is as if God were speaking. The prophets teach us what Heavenly Father wants us to know.
They warn us about what will happen if we disobey. They also tell us about the wonderful blessings that will
come when we do obey. Will we listen? (from Jan.2001 Friend)”

Heavenly
Father Tells Tells The People.
(Us!)

(You could have ‘Heavenly

Father’ typed on a piece His Prophets (Print pictures of people
of paper or have a picture (Have picture of several and cut them out and
of Heavenly Father.) prophets here. Have have them posted above
a sign that says ‘His ‘The People’ sign.

the pictures.) really cute little girl and
boy pictures.)

Have several scripture references posted around the room (You could also split the primary into different groups
and give each group a scripture to read.) Take turns choosing a child/group to find a scripture. Have the child
tell you what is being taught in that scripture. Ask if anyone knows who is talking in that scripture, you may
have to help them with some. If you have a picture for each of your prophets, you could have the child find the
prophet that is speaking in that scripture. Talk a little bit about each principle the prophet is teaching. You could
even ask the child an question that has to do with that principle.
After you have gone through all of your scriptures, tell the children that the Latter-day prophets also tell us very
important things that we must do. For this we’ll play a ‘Cranium/Charades’ type game. (I played this last year
for a sharing time, it was a lot of fun.)
Have different teachings typed/written on pieces of paper. Put the pieces of paper into a bag or bucket. Tell the
children that inside the bag are things that our prophets have told us to do. They are going to take turns coming
up and picking a piece of paper out of the bag. They cannot tell anyone what is written on the paper. They are
either going to have to Act out the clue, draw it, or mold it. You can write/type this under the clue, or if you
have a big dice, you could attach pieces of paper to each side that say: Act Out/Charade, Mold, Draw, Draw
with eyes closed, Teacher Play!, etc. The children must guess what the principle the child is acting out. Then
you could talk a little bit about why that particular principle can help us. Remind them that every item was
taught to us by a prophet.
At the end ask them what happens next Sunday (General Conference). And who do we get to listen to during
General Conference? (President Monson). Remind the children that President Monson is a prophet of God, and
that he was called to speak for our Heavenly Father. To tell us the things that our Heavenly Father wants us to
know.
