My previous school that I have attended

SJK Sibiew Chinese is my primary school. It is the biggest school in size among five of the Chinese
primary schools in town. Most of the students are native even though it is a Chinese primary school. This is
because the people who live here are native and work as farmer. Most of them are planting rubber trees,

bananas, coconuts and durians. In the past, the school was surrounded by farming land but now the nearby area
has become a busy residential.
My primary school had a proud history. It was built in 1964. The location remained the same at Jalan
Tun Hussein Onn, Bintulu. Whats difference is that the building had been changed. The old building had only a
staff room, a small library and six classrooms. The toilets were far away from the school building. After more
than forty years, it began to change from wooden building to reinforced concrete building. New additions to the
school were completed in 2008 which included two teaching blocks and an administration block. The
administration block contains offices, staff room, resource centre, computer rooms, library, dental room,
meeting room, lots of washrooms and a big comfortable canteen. The original basketball court had also been
renovated and currently it has become an indoor stadium.
During the school time, the school compound is still full of joy, happiness and students voices. The
students always running around and busy playing with friends. Nevertheless, when compares to the past and
present, I find that number of classes held and school co-curricular differ the most.
During my first year, the school only had six classes, one class for each grade. The number of the
students were around 240 with 10 teachers. Now, the classes have been triple. There are total of 30 classes, 5
classes for each grade and the whole school has total of 1,145 students and 51 teachers.
The school still start early in the morning. The class time is almost the same. I still remember when I
was in school, school hours started from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. We didnt have co-curricular time but we
need to bring our lunches to school because we had to study for the whole day. Now, the school hours started
from 7.10 a.m. until 12.40 p.m. After lunch break, students need to stay back until 3:30 p.m. for co-curricular
activities. The outdoor activities have also been increased. Students now can take part in all kind of the sports,
uniform clubs and subject clubs.
I miss my primary school. I had taught at the school for several years. It was a good experience and an
unforgettable memory. I do hope that my old school will gain an excellence performance both in academic and
co-curricular activities in future.
