Impact of World Wide Web (Internet) in Education & Daily life

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: - The purpose of this research is to find out the impact of internet
usage on student’s academic performance so education institutions take efficient
measure and invest in IT and make the awareness of internet plus explore that
internet is a best source of information and will also see internet provide
entertainment in different phase of life. Exploratory studies method is adopted for
the entire research. Our research project is concerned with Field Study.
Information/ data were collected form four universities through questionnaire
methodology. Correlation and regression techniques were used to finding out the
strength and direction of relations. To encourage internet usage intentions, it
appears worthwhile to create in potential users a sense that the technology is
useful, easy to use, and that others have expectations regarding its usage.

Key words: internet, information, education, entertainment, information

technology

Type of paper: research paper

INTORDUCTION

The Internet has had a profound impact on consumer behavior every where,
affecting work and education and opening up new channels of communication
through e-mail and interactive websites. Spending time online has itself become
an important leisure activity, but the days of pointless `surfing' have given way.
These new online activities are increasingly social, in contrast to the `solipsistic'
surfing of the past. Research by Key Note shows that activities such as online
auctions (led by eBay), interactive multi-player games and getting in touch with
old friends, relatives or `dating' are all part of the new `virtual society' that has
develop (internet)

However, in terms of generating revenues, the most lucrative e-commerce sector

in leisure is still travel, estimated to account for nearly two-thirds of online
spending on leisure. Consumers increasingly research their holidays online before
booking them, even if they still use the telephone or a travel agent in the high
street for the final booking. Examples of the impact of the Internet on travel
include being able to check in at home for a flight (including self-printing the
boarding pass) and the stimulus given to short-break holidays by the budget
airlines (e.g. Ryanair), which sell almost all of their tickets online.

Despite the value and growth of e-commerce for leisure, worth around £6.5bn in
(2005), this still represents a small fraction of total spending on leisure (a
distribution share of less than 10% in most leisure markets). Some activities are
suitable for a steady rise in the online share to take place, notably gambling and
booking tickets for events. Interactive websites are eminently suitable for these
activities, whereas other leisure activities obviously involve leaving the computer
behind (e.g. taking part in sport or going to a public house or cinema).

Many experiments and trials are taking place in (2006) and (2007) that will shape
the new Internet leisure market. Video-on-demand (VoD) will transform
broadcasting, and the days of some `entertainment products' (e.g. CDs and DVDs
[digital versatile discs]) are limited because of the potential for downloading
them. However, books seem to be impervious to these changes and the traditional
book market is still thriving. This is symptomatic of another trend in leisure:
despite all the technological advances, most consumers are still simply finding
ways to access `old culture', such as Hollywood movies, `greatest hits' records or
live football matches. Many time-consuming activities online — such as finding
old friends and relatives or buying second-hand goods — also contain an element
of `cultural timelag'.(the internet leisure and entertainment market)

Throughout the world, Marketer and Consumer Buying Behavior (CBB) are
changing the face of education. It has been argued that the, if a marketer can
identify CBB, he or she will be in better position to target products and services at
them Zhang, P. (1998). Just as computers are about to replace books (some
would argue this has already happened) as our main source of information
globally, computers will come to occupy the central position in education once
occupied by books. The Internet was initially developed by the US Defense
Department and was at one time only popular within the research community. Its
ability to share information across organizations and to interact with people at low
cost has gradually enticed other sectors to explore its use.

Today, the Internet has an impact on every facet of our life including business
operation, education, communication, entertainment, social activity, shopping,
and so on . Many universities around the world are expanding their investment in
information technology (IT)and specifically the Internet, and are actively
promoting Internet use. From a student’s perspective, learning using online tools
is multidimensional. It may entail a multitude of variables such as prior student
knowledge of IT, experience in its usage, perceptions of IT usage, computer
competencies, and background demographics Xie, X. & Zhang, T. (1999). The
Internet is one of the greatest recent advancement in the world of information
technology and has become a useful instrument that has fostered the process of
making the world a global village. Access to new and valuable sources of
information that came into being because of the Internet. These include electronic
journals (e-journals) and Internet discussion groups .The Internet provides several
opportunities for the academia. It is a mechanism for information dissemination
and a medium for collaborative interaction between individuals and their
computers without regard for geographic limitation of space Chen, S. Y. & Paul,
R. J. (2003). The word Internet is derived from two words: “international” and
“network”. The Internet therefore can be defined as an international computer
network of information available to the public through modem links so internet is
a worldwide system of linked computers networks. The Internet is the world’s
largest and most widely used network. It is an international network of networks
that is a collection of hundreds of thousands of private and public networks all
over the world.)

This is an era of information technology. Pakistan is also trying to cope with

this IT revolution. In this regards special steps are being taken and efforts are
being made to spread internet all over the country.

According to a recent statement of our science & IT minister that now internet
is available in about 800 cities of Pakistani compared with India who have
internet facility in just 600 cities. This is considered as a great achievement and it
is. But here is a question that availability of internet all over the country at low
rates guaranteed development? Do our people know the use of internet for
development purpose? It is a fact that the ratio of informative and educational
sites in the total is very low. One can listen to international radio station on
research and education on the Internet, read national dailies of other countries,
and speaks to friends around the global, read books and other materials on the
Internet. The list of things that can be done on the Internet is a very long one. The
Internet contains more information than the world’s largest libraries with access
to the Internet one can retrieve information from the world’s largest information
database. Alavi, M. (1994).

Research Questions

Q- Does internet gives specialized knowledge with proof in education? Does

internet has positive relationship on education?

Q- Finding out the intensity of getting information from internet source?

Internet is best source of information?

Q- Exploring percent use of internet for entertainment? Does internet give

relaxation/ entertainment in our daily life?

These are few research questions on which we can fine out the intensity to
internet usage in education find out right, correct accuracy and latest
information plus how internet gives relaxation/ fun or can entertain in daily
life

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Pakistan is under developing country and is lack of planning in different s sectors

which directly link to the success and betterment for the country.
The main area which needs to be focused is the new and improved method of
research in different sectors. The population of Pakistan is roughly between 167
million and unemployment rate is getting high day by day. The purpose of a
proper education is to help a child become an independent adult Pakistan needs
to implement high specialized knowledge or try to impose the World Wide Web
in education sector as well as in daily life. At that point of time Pakistan does not
have advanced equipment like computer technology professionals this is one of
the main reason why Pakistan is still facing problem is education sector. And if
we see in our daily life when ever we buy any thing we don’t have much
information awareness about any thing what is good what is wrong just because
we don’t have proper knowledge of using WWW. Wilkins (1997).
Now if we say about daily life internet plays vital role because daily life deals
with the main decision which one has to take in different situation in buying
choice and for getting information regarding anything but the main problem is
awareness of using internet.
Fast moving world everyone needs time to relax for a littlie while but due to
problems no time for entertainment no time for relaxation that why a lot for
people went on depression because they don’t have time to make them self relax.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

The main and important objective of this study

would be improvement in education system get awareness in common man. Www
itself a new world of information, entertainment, and everything and is far just on
one click. By introducing www in specialized education system let’s say in
universities where one gets knowledge that leads towards his career. World Wide
Web gives a unique power that differentiates literate from illiterate. It shows
everything is possible in this world nothing is difficult NASA the touch the moon
Pakistan has talent have everything it is just a unique push in education sector by
implementing the Internet with education and different field of life that help is
research of any kind of subject with proof by different engineer and doc they had
been working on that Bargeron, D., Grudin, J., Gupta, A. & Sanocki, E.
(2002). It make them realized that this is the time of globalization what others
are doing and where we stand. Let’s take the education sector in Rawalpindi has
more the 6 universities offering different kind of education
Now if we see in our daily life we come across in different situation where we
need some choices some help any information regarding any product and services
if we just use mind we have availability of miracle know as world wide web it
gives different alternatives different choices for everything.
Now lets talk about entertainment life is getting dull bore day by day same thing
same routine different tensions that makes life tough life needs some relaxation.

• Find out the intensity of internet usage by students.

• Find out the intensity of getting information from internet source.

• Exploring percent use of internet for entertainment.

SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY:-

This study could be beneficial for student as well as for institutions. The valuable
feedback from 150 students should help student to realize the benefits of internet
in their education. Institutes can invest more in internet facilities to enhance the
performance of their students and produce better results. Based on Pakistan’s
experience, international readers may take advantage from this study work.
It's a fact that more people watch television and get their information that way
than read books. I find new technology and new ways of communication very
exciting and would like to do more in this field Thomas Jefferson (2002).

REREARCH MOTHODOLOGY

Local and international articles and journals were referred as secondary source of
information in the study. Primary data were collected from the distribution of self-
administered questionnaires to 150 students from Pakistan (RAWALPINDI)
where there are so many recognized universities.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

Closed and open ended questionnaire form was designed for this study. There
were three sections in the questionnaire. Section A identified the attitude of
Students towards internet in education and the second one is internet is best
source of information and the last one is it also provide entertainment.

SAMPLE OF STUDY

The convenient sampling methods were used to select 150 students for the four
different universities listed on higher education commission HSE website. We
have selected four disciplines including Masters in business administration
Bachelors of business administration, Master in Arts, Masters in computer
sciences and master in commerce.
All the universities and colleges selected are private due to the best standard of
education in almost all major disciplines where the usage of internet is more as
compared to other disciplines plus the impact of internet in our daily life

DATA COLLECTION PROCEDURE

The survey method was used to collect a primarily data in this research paper. A
pilot test was conducted by distribution questionnaire forms to 40 students on per
trip and. Minor editing was done before the final questionnaires were used to
collect data from students by acting on their feedback.
We personally went in above mentioned institutes and collect data by interacting
with the different students and before handing over the form we make sure that
we are talking to the appropriate student but from semester II and III.

SOFTWARE USED/ STAT TOOL

I simply used the best possible way to calculate the result by using stat tools

student was satisfied with education opportunity they have from the internet with
the lowest mean of 2.12 and standard deviation of 3.8975.

Last question was about information & most of student think internet best source of
information with the mean of 3.32 and standard deviation of 7.0543.

DISSCUSSION

John postal have researched on internet form different aspects he says:

“If it's on the Internet, then it's got to be true” Jon Postal (1992)
Internet has positive impact as well as negative if we say positive in studies or in every
field of life we can get solid proof about any thing which been done previously and by
the time when one do that thing again success rate is 100%, accuracy reliable in every
field which will create class differentiate from others .Now the negative aspect of internet
people use to sit for many hours wasting time as well money which leads to big disasters.
“We will have more Internet, larger numbers of users, more mobile access, more speed,
more things online and more appliances we can control over the Internet” Spencer
Bacchus (1991)
After analysis in different results from questionnaire it is clear that internet gives more
teach more provide more which is beneficial in all the way of life because if we see
education sector we can fine that person who use internet from very beginning his view
about everything would be strong and different from others now in the field of
information internet has a vest variety of information regarding product / services with
full proof which can make work easier for any one about any thing. Now if we talk about
entertainment internet gives complete package online movies songs games any thing just
in one click so the result is internet can help any one any time.
“The great thing about the Internet is that it allows people to find and consume music
entertainment” Andy Taylor (2003).
FINDING

Internet is one the beneficial tool in the ear of information technology not only in
businesses but in every phase of life with complete facts and figures enhances
skills in education give edge in making right decision regarding information of
any product and services and best thing it won’t let bore (entertainment).

CONCLUSION

According to all the research work I have concluded and recommended that
Internet is very useful tool in education as well as every phase of life so the
universities schools college must implement internet technology for the
betterment for entire nation. On the other hand if we talk about phase of
information entertainment and we should implement internet in our daily life to
take useful decision of life. Internet shows right directions full proof information
about any particular problem and the best part is it gives entertainment the way
you want.

RECOMMENDATION

1. Education institute must implement the police of using web internet in education
just because internet gives practical proof for any problem regarding to education.

2. Internet gives alternative for any information so you can chose the best thing or
maker a best decision after getting solid information from internet everyone
should use internet for getting new and improved knowledge regarding product/
services.

3. In this fast moving life internet where every one try to give relaxation to his mind
for that internet is one of the best solution for relaxation one can see movie listen
to song or online games so its better use internet for fun and entertainment.
