OCTOBER 2015

From the Commodore

JIB SHEET

PORT CLINTON YACHT CLUB

Fall is in the air and

some boats have already gone to their
winter resting place.
Too bad because the
fall boating has been
fantastic! Yes, the
search is over, your
Commodore finally
has a boat!
There has been plenty
of activity around the
grounds since I wrote
my last article. Most
of it revolved around
the pool and sailing
events. The cannonball splash party was
a big success with
young and old enjoying the diving boards
for some friendly
competition. Yours
truly even competed
in full uniform! Following that there was
a Commodores reception for the Green
Island Racers. Fleet
Captain of Sail honored all previous 1st
place finishers with a
trophy inscribed with
the year they won.
PCYC was well represented with JEB
having the most 1st
place finishes since
1984! Congratulations to all that have
finished first over the
years you deserve to
be proud!
The Green Island

Race was held on

Sunday which didnt
finish until late due to
lack of wind. There
were a few racers that
dropped out and
elected to have a
swim instead of race
in 90 degree heat and
no wind. Cant say I
blame them for wanting to cool off.
On the following
Sunday we hosted the
first bring your dog
to the pool swim.
The dogs had a blast!
At one point I estimate there was
around 30 dogs in
and around the pool.
This was a great
event and there is talk
of making it an annual event the weekend after the pool
closes.
By the time you receive this article the
demolition of the
pool will be well under way. On Sunday
September 20th a
group of members
readied the site for
the construction
crew. The diving
boards were disassembled and put in
storage, the fence
was taken down earlier in the week, pool
furniture was relocated, kiddie pool

equipment was removed and we are

ready for a new era to
begin. We will be
taking frequent pictures and placing
them on our Facebook page and in the
bar so log on or stop
in and follow the progress!
October has many
events and not to
mention, its just a
great time around the
Club! Thats all for
now and I hope to see
you soon!

The Rear Perspective

History in the Making

The pool project is proceeding

as scheduled. My sincere thanks
go out to those members who
took down the fence, diving
boards and all the other things
not covered in the contract. There is plenty more to do
so stay tuned!
Sunday, October 18 from 8:00 to
noon, is our annual fall work
party. We have a number of
tasks to complete and I hope for
a similar turnout as the spring
work party. We especially would
like to see some of our new
members participate. Jobs will
be planned well in advance.
Whether rain or shine, I will have
things to do. Lunch will be
served.
As summer closes and the boats
sadly go away, I would like to
ask the boaters to remove all
personal items from your docks
except dock boxes and
grill. This includes hoses, lines,
bikes, special attachments to
your picnic table (no guarantee
you get same one back), umbrellas, etc. Please make
sure your dock boxes
are properly secured or
weighted too.
See you on the 18th,
RC Dave Obergefell

Fleet Captain of Sail

Greetings to all PCYC Members.
The Green Island Weekend was a
great success. Thanks to all those
who assisted in either supporting
the weekend festivities or participating in the events. We couldnt do
it without everyones support! Results are posted on the PCYC Website.

up their boats for the winter so the

sail area is getting sparse. Your Sail
Team had a great year and will be
ready to go early next year. Over
the winter they expect to stay busy
with Fund Raising Dinners and
Sailing Seminars. More on that
when the calendar is ready.

As we approach the end of the sailing season next up is the Snow

Flurries Regatta on October 3 & 4.
The fleet will be participating in the
Fall Bay Regatta at Put-In-Bay September 26 & 27 after which they
will head to Port Clinton for the
Snow Flurries Regatta weekend.
We are looking forward to a great
weekend!

Jayson JJ Miller attended the Laser District 18 Grand Prix at Eagle

Creek Sailing Club in Indianapolis.
As a result of his effort, he was
awarded the Inaugural Jr. Champion Award. This award was dedicated by District 18 in honor of
Wayne Meyers of Eagle Creek for
his contribution to the I-LYA Jr.
Sailing Program. Thanks to Wayne
for all his support.

The Jr. Sail Team finished packing

The Sail Team and Learn to Sail

Director Linda Sprenger is already

pulling things together for next
year. As the year progresses please
feel free to contact Linda or myself
with any Learn to Sail or Race
Team questions.
Every other month I have been asking members of the Jr. Sail Team to
write articles for the Jib Sheet.
These articles give our young sailors an opportunity to share some of
their experiences and outlooks on
the sailing season. I hope you enjoy
their experiences. Next up will be
Ben Sprenger whose article will
appear in next months Jib Sheet.
Enjoy the Good Weather and Sail
On!

Dont miss the Annual Scary Good Time Halloween Party!

Fleet Captain of Power

We have officially closed the book
on another great year of CruiseOuts. The Put-In-Bay event was
the last event of the year and was
a great success with eighteen
boats attending. We had a pizza
party Friday evening and a cookout on Saturday morning. The
weather Saturday could have been a

little nicer, but everyone made the

most of it and had a good time
(Bloody Marys may have helped).
I would like to thank all who attended and helped with the
Cruise-Outs this year. It is the
people who make these events so
enjoyable. It is always a pleasure

to get together with fellow members for a weekend on the water. There are still some good
weekends left this year. Hopefully
you are able to get out and enjoy.
Happy Boating,
RJ Basil
