Theme: Geriatric Medicine: Caring For Elderly, Youth Responsibility


The numbers of aged people in Indonesia in 2006 are approximately about 19 millions with
life expectancy of 66,2 years old. In the year 2010, the aged people are expected about
approximately 23,9 millions (9,77%) with life expectancy of 67,4 years old and in the year of
2020 the aged people are expected approximately about 28,8 millions (11,34%) with life
expectancy of 71,1 years old. The successness of Government in executing

National

Development has resulted postive impact in many fields, example in economic, life
environtment repairment, knowledge and technology especially in health department. This
resulted on increasing the health quality and also increasing the life expectancy of the people.
Therefore, the amount of aged people is increased and fastened.
Aging is a multidimensional process and refers to the process of "accruing maturity with
the passage of time." It begins with conception and continues throughout life until death
occurs. Aging is progressive, ubiquitous and inevitable to all living things. Homeostenosis is
the concept where normal aging decreases the body's ability to withstand stress and
challenges as homeostatic mechanisms decline over time. Our functional capacity and ability
to respond to stress progressively declines in a linear or exponential fashion beginning as far
back as the third decade.
The increasing of life expectancy of Indonesian people will also increase the numbers of aged
people. With the increasing of aged people, will also increase several age-associated diseases.
With the increasing of age-associated diseases, in the end will bring burden to health
department in treating the morbidity of age associated diseases. Geriatric assessment is a
multidisciplinary diagnostic process that evaluates the older adults medical, psychological,
social, and functional capacity. With this, we all hope that the prevention, treatment and
rehabilitation that adressed to Geriatric diseases which in the end will be reducing the
morbidity and mortality of these disease caused.

OBJECTIVE
1. To provide a platform for medical students to exchange knowledge regarding geriatric health
issues.
2. To recognize the role of medical students, healthcare professions, community and government
in handling geriatric problems (detection, prevention and management) efficiently and effectively.

VIDEO SPESIFICATION
1. File format: Movie should be able to be played on Windows Media Player (Suggested format
are .mov or .mp4).
2. Video duration: maximal 4 min
3. Language: English (Other languages are accepted, however it must be accompanied by subtitles
in English)
