Meanwhile, the College of Business, Economics and Management (CBEM) which was
the champion from 2011-2014, secured the
second spot with 413.9 points.
After ending on the 15th spot last year, Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation (IPESR) jumped on third with 391.25
points.
On the other hand, College of Arts and Letters (CAL) and Institute of Architecture (IA)
placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

the reason for their victory in this years September Fest is their preparation.
I think our players are naturally good.
They are physically motivated even though we
were not able to provide costumes and other

that whenever they perform, they will be doing

Marquez stated.
After four years of winning, CBEM wasnt
able to maintain its winning streak on the
competition. The college also failed to defend
its title for the Pep Squad Competition where
IPESR was hailed as champion.

The essence of joining competitions is not
mainly because of experience neither of mere
representation. Its hypocritical to say such
because primarily, the very reason of engaging into contests is to bring home the bacon.
To assure the prevention of disqualification of Bicol University (BU) from the Search
for Mr. and Ms. State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA), the University Student Council (USC) altered the guidelines for Mr. and Ms. BU (MMBU) 2015. This
includes changing the height requirement
to 55 for the male and 54 for the female,
therefore, preventing some of the candidates
from joining even if they won the title in their
respective colleges.
According to USC Chairperson Irene
Kayle Santillan, among the disqualified candidates is the representative of the Institute of
Architecture for the female category as well
as representatives from Tabaco Campus,
and College of Science.
As far as the college pageant is concerned, the CSSP College Student Council
(CSC) made an agreement with the USC
stating that departamental repesentatives,
though not qualified with the given height requirement, will still join the college pageant
for the sake of representation.
It must be noted that the guideline was
revised last August 3 to give the CSCs ample time to prepare for their representatives.
However, despite the early notice, there are
still glaring inconsistencies between the standards of the CSCs and the USC. As much
as information dissemination is concerned,
CSCs mustve took it seriously so as to avoid
last minute adjustments.
Critically speaking, it is highly acceptable for the USC to revise the guidelines so
as to fit with the requirements of SCUAA.
However, the alteration of official candidates
just to match these guidelines dilutes the very
essence of college-based pageants which
serve as the primer for MMBU.
Whats more disappointing is that the
candidates effort did not pay off. Time, effort
and expenses for these college-based pageants will be considered wasted if the CSC
will send other representative rather than its
title holders.
True enough, it is a shame on the part of
the college if they dont have a representative
in the said pageant. Also, should the representative who hasnt been into the colleges
pageant win the title, triumph would seem unjustifiable.
The CSCs, in their goal of clinching the
championship and bring the bacon to their
respective colleges, must strictly observe the
guidelines in order to prevent changes in the
representatives. Ultimately, fair play should
always be monitored.
