IX.SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The researchers aim is to conduct a research about the effects of internet in work
onboard the vessel. They would like to know how internet affects the resting hours,
performance onboard, navigation and duties or watches of officers and ratings in a certain
vessel. The research only covers the effects of internet onboard if it is helpful or not in the
performance of seafarers and if it is only used for communication or as a tool for leisure
when they are on their own.
Our research will only limit our respondents to the maritime officers and ratings of the
Philippines. This will include the instructors of the deck department and engine department
inside the premises of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific that had experience to
be a part of a vessel which has an internet connection. Our first classmen will also be
included as our respondents in the said research for they already experienced to be a
member of the crew of an international merchant vessel.
