Are you the brainiest school in Britain? Sign-up for the first ever online national schools quiz
Becta, the Government’s agency for technology in education, and the NEN
(National Education Network) are launching the first ever nationwide online
schools quiz, which will see thousands of primary school children up and
down the country compete simultaneously in this pioneering, interactive
competition. Schools entering the Next Generation Learning National Schools
Quiz, which will take place on Friday 12th March, could win up to £3,000 worth of
ICT equipment or training for their school, plus there are fantastic spot prizes for
successful individuals and teams who take part. The quiz will run exclusively
online, via the NEN, covering curriculum areas, including history, science,
citizenship, numeracy and literacy. Questions will be provided by a series of high
profile national partners who include the Historic Royal Palaces, Natural History
Museum, Science Museum, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and the relevant subject associations. The
nationwide quiz is aimed at Key Stage 2 and open to pupils aged eight and nine years old. Schools can sign
up individual pupils or teams by registering now at www.nen.gov.uk/nsq .

Watch out Warner Brothers! As Scotts Primary School unveil their new Apple Mac film studio
There‟s a touch of Hollywood over in Hornchurch these days, since Scotts Primary School converted a
cupboard in their Year 6 classroom into a film studio. Headteacher Simon Abeledo is rightfully proud of the
work. Apple Mac computers, funded through Tesco vouchers and double-glazed windows to provide sound-
proofing (for £1500) mean that pupils are now able to engage in film and animation work at a very minimal
cost. Pupils have been developing their skills very quickly, with support from ICT Leader Jan Taylor.
Crownfield Junior School accept the National Story Telling Video-Conferencing Challenge
To celebrate National Storytelling Week, three professional
Storytellers working for „Everyday Magic‟ presented an exciting
videoconference challenge to Primary schools. Here Crownfield
Junior School ICT Leader Suzanne Nott explains...
“Four of our Y5's took part. They received great feedback from the
professional storytellers (all three were listening to the
contributions from the schools). They said our set was fantastic;
the children's gestures and expressions when telling the story
really brought it alive and that the ending sent tingles up their
spines! We were the final school to perform, so spent the
morning enjoying the performances from the eight other schools.”
