Individual Learning

The main objective of organization behaviour is to study the impact of individuals, groups
and structure on behaviour within an organization. Basically to know about the people and
their behaviour and how will it help to succeed in an organization. Through this club activity,
I learned the practical applications and implementation of various theories. We formed
Happy Club and as the name suggests are objective is to bring a smile on people faces,
make them tension free and eventually make them happy. While coming up with the name of
the club and designing of logo and discussing what activities we should do, we put to use the
Brain Storming technique and came to know about its advantages and disadvantages. I
came across the whole group forming process of Forming, Storming, Norming,
Performing where we formed a group, discussed the above mentioned things, mutually
agreed on certain norms and guide lines and finally went ahead with performing the
activities.
When laying down the values of the club I could relate our work to the different types of
values. Like how terminal values such as family security, happiness , inner harmony,
pleasure and social recognition can lead to instrumental values such as broad minded,
cheerful, helpful, responsible, self controlled, etc.
While working in this club I could relate to many theories which were taught in the class.
One such is OB Applications of Emotions & Moods where we learned about aspects such
as Decision Making, Creativity, Motivation, Leadership, Negotiation & Customer
Service, Attitude of people.
Meeting different people helped me better understand the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
(MBTI) as I practically met people with different types and characteristics and learned how to
work with them. The Group Cohesion helped in connecting as a team and achieving the
targets.
As stated by Henry Fayol in his theory, as the activity was announced in the class we
followed planning, organizing, leading and controlling. We decided the topic and the goals
that would be completed by the end of the activity. We then decided the organization along
with the group leader and distributed the work. Thus I learnt all these procedures while
working in a group.
According to Maslows hierarchy of needs I learned that people have a need for affection
and belongingness and also that staying happy is one of the steps towards attaining selfactualization.
I also experienced the five characteristics of Emotional Intelligence while working in the
club. We were self aware about the goods and short comings of our club. We helped people
to b happy n remain calm and control ant disruptive thoughts. We were self motivated as a
group and also motivated other students. We empathized with people who were stressed out
and I personally improved my social skills while interacting with people from diverse
backgrounds.

According to Punctuated Equilibrium model we completed 40 % of our work in a week

and then slowed down a little and then completed another 60 % in 2 days. Thus the club
activity helped me relate to this concept very well.
I also experienced positive strokes when seeing that I made made someone smile and help
them relieve their tensions.
According to Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory all these reasons led to job satisfaction.
Major other Job attitudes like: job involvement and organization commitment were also
achieved through this club.
