3.

Part 1 of Amalgamated assignment: Written. Please address by

written work 1200-1500 words
L04 Be able to construct a strategy plan for an organisation
4.1 propose a suitable structure for a strategy plan that ensures appropriate participation
from all stakeholders of an organisation
For AC4.1, learners need to propose a suitable structure for a strategy plan. They need to
show that the plan will be developed in such a way that all stakeholders in their chosen
organisation will be able to participate in its formation.
One such tool is the Strategy Map and the balanced Score Card (BSC) that sits behind it.
4.2 develop criteria for reviewing potential options for a strategy plan
For AC4.2, learners need to develop criteria for reviewing potential options for their
strategic plan. For example, if one strategic option is to raise prices, then the learner would
describe how the effect of this would be measured.
Review: reviewing options; SAFe criteria
(Ch. 11), RACES,
organisational

risk

assessment;

stakeholder

participation;

consistency

with

values; effects on market position & market share

4.3 construct an agreed strategy plan that includes resource implications
For AC4.3, learners need to construct an agreed strategy plan that includes the resources
that will be needed to implement the plan. They will need to examine factors affecting their
plan, including a comparison of their organisations values against their current business
objectives
Construct: headings and detail from pp. 523 & 525 & assess the resources required to
implement it e.g. financial, skills, experience; how will the resources be financed?
See case study on TNT for some insights into resourcing.
Part 2
Option: 5.1 and 5.2 could be covered by a self-generated video. This would be produced
and delivered in your own time. It would still have to cover the same ground as any written
work. This could be uploaded to www wetransfer.com. You would need to send a document
to the submission link explaining that this was your choice and inform your tutor!
Alternatively, 5.1-5.4 would be written 1400-1600 words.
LO5 Be able to examine factors affecting an organisational strategy plan
5.1 compare core organisational values (ethical, cultural, environmental, social and
business) with the current business objectives of an organisation.
For this it is necessary to explore current values of the organisation set against its current
business objectives, structures, culture, processes etc. How valid relevant are they? Are
they consistent with current strategy, are they doing what they say they are doing? In the
final analysis, are these still relevant to the current business environment?
5.2 develop appropriate vision and mission statements for an organisation

You are to analyse the current situation for an organisation and then update or develop a
set of Mission and Vision statements. Pay attention to the consistent elements that make
these successful and justify with referenced theory.
5.3 produce agreed future management objectives for an organisation
One way to do this is to consider Management By Objectives MBO (P. Drucker) as a tool. It
has to some extent lost its dominant status as a tool, but could be used. Equally, other
SMART objectives financial, CSR, diversity etc., objectives are relevant and you can
return to the balanced score card (BSC)
5.4 develop measures for evaluating a strategy plan
Ch. 11 and pp. 386 & 389. Discuss how will you know if the plan is working- Balanced
Score card? How can we measure these...give some examples.

Other aspect-key performance indicators (KPIs

Share price/ ROI

Market share
Customer satisfaction
Brand reputation
Benchmarking against other institutions in the industry
Cultural snapshots
Business ethics-independent monitoring
Diversity targets

Part 3
LO6 Be able to plan for the implementation of a strategy plan
Written / work value about 1200-1500 words.
6.1 develop a schedule for implementing a strategy plan in an organisation
For 6.1, learners need to develop a schedule for implementing their strategy plan in their
chosen organisation.
This could use a Gantt and or Responsibility chart. A full strategic plan could be issued to
staff with key measures and dates.
6.2 create appropriate dissemination processes to gain commitment from stakeholders in
an organisation
For 6.2, learners need to create appropriate processes to disseminate information to
stakeholders in their chosen organisation that will gain their commitment to the strategy
plan when it is implemented. Clearly, there would have to be consultative meetings and
objectives set. Regular updates and task teams etc. to get buy in. In short, a management
of change approach
6.3 design monitoring and evaluation systems for the implementation of a strategy plan in
an organisation
For 6.3, learners need to design systems that will monitor and evaluate the implementation
of their strategy plan. Choice!
A. This is a return to BSC or other KPIs. The McKinsey 7 s framework seeks to
integrate a number of elements that could be measured.
B. In addition, one could measure cultural change-through organisational health
checks and cultural snap shots.

Task A would be written only, or B could be a designed poster showing cultural symbolic
representations / questionnaire and small justification. These would be submitted as a
document.

Learners can utilise this space to submitted written or other work. Ensure referenced supporting evidence is included.
