Youaretoassumetheroleofadministrativeassistantsforanewrealitytelevisionshow,LOVEIS
BLIND.Thecastingdirector(judge)hasassignedyouthetaskofhiring/castingforthisshowand
wantsyoutodrawupaplanforthistask.
LOVE IS BLIND isaboutmarryingforlove.Twentybachelorsarevyingforloveandmarriage
withonebachelorette.Duringthecourseoftheshow,atnotimedoesthebacheloretteshowher
face.Shewearsamaskandwillnotremovethemaskuntilaftershechoosesherbachelorand
proposes marriage. Once the bachelor accepts or refuses her proposal, the bachelorette will
removehermask.Thelengthoffilmingfortheshowwillbesixweeks.

The administrative assistants (participant team) will present their plans to you (judge) in a
meeting to take place in youroffice. You will begin the meeting by greeting the assistants
(participants)andaskingtoheartheirplan.
Oncetheassistants(participantteam)havemadetheirpresentation,youaretoaskthefollowing
questionsofeachparticipantteam:
1. Howareyougoingtoguardagainsthiringpeoplewholieonanapplication?
2. Howareyouadvertisingforthesepositions?
3. What regulations/requirements of the participants of the show will be critical for
safeguardingtheshowssuccess?
Once the assistants (participant team) have answered your questions, you will conclude the
meetingbythankingthemfortheirwork.
Youarenottomakeanycommentsaftertheeventisoverexcepttothanktheparticipants.

JUDGINGTHEPRESENTATION
Teammembers,assumingtheroleofamanagementteamforthebusinessrepresented,willanalyzeacase
situationrelatedtothechosenoccupationalarea.Theteamwillmakedecisionsregardingthesituation,
andthenmakeanoralpresentationtothejudge. Theroleofthejudgeisthatofanexecutiveforthe
business.
ParticipantswillbeevaluatedaccordingtotheEvaluationForm.
PleaseplacethenameandidentificationnumberlabelontheScantronsheet(unlessithasalreadybeen
doneforyou).
Participantswillhavea30minutepreparationperiodandmaymakenotestouseduringtheroleplay.
Duringthefirst10minutesofthepresentation(afterintroductions),theteamwillpresenttheiranalysis,
theirdecisionsandtherationalebehindthedecisions.Allowtheteamstocompletethisportionwithout
interruption,unlessyouareaskedtorespond.
Duringthenext5minutes,youmayaskquestionsoftheteamtodeterminetheirunderstandingofthe
situationpresented. Eachmemberofeachteamshouldrespondtoatleastonequestion. Toensure
fairness,youmustaskeachteamthesamequestions.Afteraskingthestandardquestions,youmayask
otherquestionsforclarificationspecifictothecurrentteam.
Afterthequestioningperiod,pleasethanktheteamandstatethattheywillbenotifiedofyourdecision
soon. Then complete the Evaluation Form, making sure to record a score for all categories. The
maximumscorefortheevaluationis100points.Thepresentationwillbeweightedattwice(2times)the
valueoftheexamscores.
A maximum score of Exceeds Expectations in any category means that, in your opinion, the
informationispresentedeffectivelyandcreatively;nothingmorecouldbeexpectedofanemployee.
AMeetsExpectationsratingmeansthattheinformationispresentwell.Thoughtheremaybeafew
minorproblemsoromissions,theyarenotsignificant. Creativity,however,isnotshowntoanygreat
degree. Acombinedtotalscoreof70orbetteronthewrittenandpresentationsectionswillearnthe
participantteamDECAsCertificateofExcellenceattheinternationalconference.
ABelowExpectationsscoremeansthattheinformationpresenteddoesnotmeetminimumstandardsof
acceptability.
A Little/No Value score means either that some major flaw has been noted that damages the
effectivenessofthepresentation(thismaybeamajoromission,aseriousmisstatementoranyothermajor
flaw)orthattheinformationpresentedisofnovalue(doesnothelpthepresentationatall).
Wehopeyouareimpressedbythequalityoftheworkofthesepotentialmanagers. Ifyouhaveany
