Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Camera

Sound

At the beginning there is a close up

of the mum when she speaks to the
baby; in the background, there is
flashing thunder and lightning,
which is pathetic fallacy. This
determines the dark mood of the
trailer and the narrative.
There is a high angle sweeping over
the destroyed and burning buildings
which could connote an evil force
flying over and observing the
destruction.
There are lots of close ups on the
major characters faces to evoke
tensions and also to emphasise the
characters expressions.
A high angle is used on the heroine
showing that she is in danger and is
weak; this could be because she is
in need to saving which is
stereotypically the task for the hero
to complete.

A birds eye shot is used to show

the person falling from a great
height into a pit of fire.
A low angle is used to show the
hero and the burning building in
front of him, this connotes his
power and dominance over the
situation.

The non-diegetic music is calm and

smooth which juxtaposes the
dramatic images.
Fast pace images appear later on in
the trailer this is where the tension
increases and impacts on the
audience. During this part, the nondiegetic music coincides with the
fast moving clips; it speeds up
dramatically and fiercely.
There are many voiceovers used in
the trailer which could be used to
aid the audience in knowing the
important information in the film
and the perspectives which makes
the character types clear.
Dialogue is also used to help the
audience understand the plot. At the
beginning, the mum says, Harry be
safe, be strong. This is
foreshadowing serious event to
come where he will need to show
confidence and determination.
Another example of diegetic sound
is You have fought valiantly, now
join me and confront your fate. This
suggests it is an action film which
would appeal to the target audience.
At the end of the trailer, the iconic
theme tune of Harry Potter is heard
when the film title appears. This is a
unique and well known sound
which is very distinctive.

A mid shot is used to show the hero

and heroine kissing, this highlights
the sub-genre of romance.
Editing

This trailer includes as montage of

flashbacks from previous films, this
would appeal to any fans who have
read all of the book and seen all of
the films, yet it could also be used
as a summary for any audiences
who have not seen the films before.
CGI would be used to create the
dragon and the actors would have
used a green screen in that scene.

Mise- En- Scene

Wands and spells are used to

highlight the sub-genre of fantasy.
The action genre is revealed in all
of the explosions and the fighting
scenes which are violent and fast
pace.
The heros glasses are iconic for the
character, he not stereotypical for a
hero as he is not muscular nor is he
particularly masculine.
The donor in the trailer is shown to
be extremely wise which fits the
character type; he has a long cloak
and a long beard to show that he is
knowledgeable and has the answers
to aid the hero in his quest.

Slow motion is used in the fight

scene to create suspense and is
extremely dramatic.

Text

Warner Brother Pictures- This Distribution Company has

contributed in lots of successful film which would appeal to the
aimed audience, for example The Dark Knight, and The Hobbit so
it could be a unique selling point.
Every moment hes livedhas led to this- dramatic phrases on
an eerie clouded background are showed between multiple
shots. This evokes a sense of tensions and also gives hints of the

narrative. It is written in sans serf font and is a silver colour, like

the colour of the title.
On July 15- The release date is also written in the same colour
and font.
It endsWhere it all began/ The final battleIs here- These
phrases are also written in the same colour and font and with the
same background. They are also written in capital letters to
stand out.
Title- This is written in capital letters and the letter P is written
in the same zagged style as the scar which is a significant
feature in the film.

All of Propps Character Types are established in this film trailer. The
hero, Harry Potter, reinforces the male stereotype because he has
courageous qualities and is strong and determined. Additionally, he
also gets rewarded in the end by getting the heroine after succeeding
the task; this is the stereotypical role for the hero. Like all heroes, they
have fatal flaws; his is anger and impulsiveness along with being
innately honourable. The villain is shown to be powerful, intimidating
and physical grotesque, like the stereotypical evil character. He is
shown to be ruthless and psychotic. Unconventionally, the trailer only
has the disruption of the equilibrium, which in one of Todorovs
Narrative Stages; this could be to entice the audience instantly.
The unique selling point of the trailer could be the experience of seeing
the film in 3D and in IMAX, this would influence people to go and watch
the film and to see the action and special effects; it would make the
film more enjoyable, lifelike and impressive. Consequently, there are
many well-known and prestigious actors starring in the film which are
typically British. This could be the unique selling point because the
audience may like a particular actor and would want to go and see
them in the film. Having these established actors or directors could
increase the popularity of the film and there would be an increase in
profit.
