Skin Mildness
Zein Test
There is a very good correlation between acute skin irritation and the
solubilization capacity of surfactants. A common model substance for the
solubilization of proteins is zein, the protein from corn grain. In the Zein Test
some of the water insoluble zein is dissolved, to a greater or lesser extend,
by aqueous surfactant solutions. After centrifugation the dissolved zein is
decomposed with concentrated sulfuric acid and the nitrogen content of the
solution coming out of the protein is determined. Surfactants with high zein
values increase the roughness of the skin and are regarded as more skin
irritant.

Performance Evaluation
Mini Plate Test - Procedure
Mini-Plate Test
Objective:
To evaluate the performance of
a
dishwashing
detergent,
through a dynamic
foam
generation.
The Test:
Continuous foam generation.
Soiled mini-plates are washed
by hand.

The detergent solution is prepared according to the

local conditions (water hardness and detergent
concentration are adjusted)

The foam is generated by a modified proper stirrer

(for 60 s)

The soiled mini-plates (1.0 g/1h aging) are washed

with continuous foam generation.

The end point is set when the foam breaks

permanently and the result is given by the number
of cleaned mini-plates
