Topic: legalising marijuana in Jamaica will greatly benefit the medical sector by giving

physicians access to this lifesaving drug.

Outline
Thesis statement: The legalisation of marijuana will truly benefit Jamaicas medical sector.
Marijuana is the most used recreational substance in the United States. However, it has the
singular distinction of being both a commonly used illegal substance and also a legally
prescribed medicinal substance in some states.
Claim 1: It would provide an avenue for an international exports as the Jamaican marijuana is
highly desired because of its chemical compounds.
Claim 2: It would open the doors for unlimited research and further studies if the raw materials
are available easily and extensively.
Claim 3: Legalisation of marijuana would allow for more cannabis product development.
Counter Argument: When its legalized it gives more people legitimate access to its usage
usually through smoking which would be harmful through inhalation of toxins.
Refutation: Legalisation of marijuana would not benefit the medical profession more than it is
right now as the incidences of drug abuse would increase and legalizing a drug would send the
wrong message to children.

The legalisation of marijuana will truly benefit Jamaica medical sector. Marijuana is the most
commonly used recreational substance in the United States and Jamaica; however, it has the
singular distinction of being both a commonly used illegal substance and also a legally
prescribed medicinal substance in the states. Marijuana has been scientifically proven to reduce
pain in patients suffering from condition like Rheumatoid Arthritis. If marijuana should be
legalized, it would provide an avenue for international exports as, the Jamaican marijuana is
highly desired because of its chemical compounds; also, it would open the doors for unlimited
research and further studies if the raw materials are available easily and extensively, and
legalization of marijuana would also allow for more cannabis product development.

Firstly, the legalizing of marijuana will provide an avenue for international exports as the
Jamaican marijuana is highly desired because of its chemical compound. According to Blaine
Dowdle, chief executive officer of Canada-based MedCannAccess, his country is looking to
engage in the potential CDN$1.2-billion medical marijuana market. However, it is very
expensive to grow marijuana in Canada, hence investors there would be more than willing to
import it from Jamaica. Noting that medical marijuana currently retails for approximately
CDN$7-$10 per gram in Canada, he said that the product was in demand, which makes it a very
profitable market. He noted in the gleaner that, in Canada the number of patients under the
medical programme has been doubling in size annually. He further said that, there are currently
about four (4) companies in Canada that are current licensed to import marijuana for medicinal
purposes. These companies currently import marijuana from a company in Holland. This is now
showing that, if Jamaica legalizes marijuana and export it, the country could make billions of

dollars annually since Canada wants to import marijuana from us because it is cheaper and have
more chemical compounds in it. So, production of marijuana could be increased and exported to
Canada to earn more revenue if legalized. This will now lead to a more productive future in our
economy.

Another reason for legalizing marijuana will open doors for unlimited research and further
studies if the raw materials are available easily and extensively. According to the American
Cancer Society, marijuana plants were made into fiber for rope and textiles, oil was taken from
its seeds, and some cultures used it in religious rituals. It was described in Indian and Chinese
medical texts more than 3,000 years ago. There are three (3) type of cultivation for marijuana,
indoor cultivation, outdoor cultivation and hydroponics cultivation. In Jamaica marijuana is
cultivated outdoor mostly in which make our marijuana desired more than others because of its
compound substance from nature. Based on the coming knowledge of marijuana, marijuana is
going to be on a wide scale of the market because of its medical purposes. So cultivating more
marijuana will benefit the medical sector.
In addition, legalization of marijuana would allow for more cannabis product development.
Cannabis is often consumed for its psychoactive and physiological effects, which can include
heightened mood or euphoria, relaxation, and an increase in appetite. Unwanted side-effects can
sometimes include a decrease in short-term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills,
reddening of the eyes, and feelings of paranoia or anxiety. Cannabis is often consumed for its

in short-term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills, reddening of the eyes, and feelings of
paranoia or anxiety.
However, when marijuana is legalized it will give more people legitimate access to its usage
usually though smoking which would be harmful through inhalation of toxins. According to the
University of Washington ADAI, the risk of respiratory effects from inhaling marijuana smoke
are heightened by more intensive way in which marijuana is smoked. When smoking marijuana
compared to tobacco, there is a prolonged and deeper inhalation and it is smoked to a shorter butt
length and at a higher combustion temperature. This results in approximately 5 times the carbon
monoxide concentration, 3 times the tar, and the retention of one-third more tar in the respiratory
tract. Higher levels of ammonia and hydrogen cyanide have also been found in marijuana smoke
compared to tobacco. So marijuana do affect the human body when use in the wrong way so it is
important for the medical sector to develop the proper way of usage.
Legalization of marijuana would not benefit the medical profession more than it is right now as
the incidences of drug abuse would increase and legalizing a drug would send the wrong
message to children. If marijuana should be legalized more teen will want to take this herb in a
small portion which eventually become addictive to their system. They will also feel like because
it is legalize everyone can buy and sell marijuana without disciplinary action but age
consideration must come in play if legalize. Marijuana is a go drug that has a lot of purpose in
which it should legalized.
